My husband and I have done many escape rooms and played dozens of escape room board games (almost every single Exit box, Unlock, Coded Chronicles and more!) and we absolutely loved this experience! Highly recommend it.
I agree with you, Tom. At first I was like oh boy, here we go. Then it really gained steam and wound up being an awesome experience. And it would have been neat to play with my spouse and have a shared experience. Alas, it was a solo endeavor and a solid one.
You mentioned that you need to play it in a "normal house." Could someone play it in a one-bedroom apartment or does it require more space/multiple rooms?
Found this game at Walmart and picked it up as it was advertised as "for one player," and I find it hard to play board games with friends so I thought, "perfect, something I can play alone." I had no idea the shock and awe that would come from this game. The amount of times I said "Holy S***," is indescribable. Loved it very much!
I would tend to agree that an actor's name on a box wouldn't seem like a good omen, but NPH might be an exception, because his biography was so clever and entertaining.
I played it with my sister at 2. It's fun, we didn't realize that it could be done without distroying it, so we broke one thing. The box is probably a tad too big for what's inside, but it's a nice experience.
@@searose6192 I think so. I don't recall anything objectionable. As long as you are okay with them watching something like a Disney movie, it should be fine. They may just miss some of the subtext of the story. I wouldn't play it with more than 3 people, though.
I had this written off because the only other theory11 game with NPH’s name on it that I played was terrible. It was called Amazed. Good to know this one has a good experience.
I've seen for a while, but then a few weeks back I finally picked it up and read the box. It sounded neat, and the BGG reviews were high. Glad you reviewed this one, been on the fence for getting it but will have to give it a look. Sounds cool.
@@agonleed3841 It starts out as a very nice trivia game and then slowly turns in to a puzzle with both online and physical parts, and everything looks simply amazing.

I REALLY enjoyed this experience. Even as a very seasoned veteran of this type of game, I really enjoyed a number of its unique innovations. Glad I saw this review; would never have picked it up otherwise. 👍
Is it okay for kids? It says 14+ is that because of mature content or difficulty? I was thinking of doing it with my daughters, but obviously don't want to get into it only to find it's gets gruesome or inappropriate or something.
@@searose6192 There's no content that's objectionable. You may want to do it with younger kids because of the level of gameplay (nothing inappropriate), but I think you'll be absolutely fine.
Just finished it last night, it’s awesome and worthwhile. If you are careful with the components, you can reset the game to its original state and pass it along to a friend. I recommend only 1-2 players each time though.
WOW. Was not expecting this review. Also: weirdest review I think I've seen you do, lol. I saw this game in a Facebook ad not long ago, and saw NPH and his pitch video wasn't really selling me on it. It felt like, okay, the big famous actor guy doesn't know that solo games exist, so here he comes to the rescue with a bargain-bin piece of garbage... Well, thanks to Tom, this is firmly on my radar, now.
So I am hearing great things BUT once you play it is it a game you'd pass to someone or could you replay with another ending??? I want to buy as a giftgor a kid but not $30 for a one time play.
If you didn't find out yet - This game is a one time pass though but it can be reset so someone else can play too. Might be hard for a kid though as there's trivia and puzzles.
Theory 11 & NPH released another game a while ago called "Amazed" that was a puzzle/riddle/secret code game with a really unique board & pretty nice presentation, but the game was kinda "meh" for me (I bought it on a whim & even did a preview of it on YT cause I could not find any info on it ANYWHERE, not even on Theory 11's website at the time). Then I saw this and didn't even bother looking at it. But your impression has me a little intrigued.
a question that I think can be answered without spoiling the game: how much language dependent is this game? I'm a Brazilian who speaks fluent English but my wife doesn't (she understands and speaks a bare minimum). Since Tom says this could be a good experience with two people, I thought about playing it with her. I'm just afraid that I would be doing a lot of translation and that it could be frustrating for her. What do you all think?
I played this game with my wife, so maybe I did it wrong. 😛 We were underwhelmed... I think I've played so much Exit The Game that I'm used to all the ways surprises can come about. But I also write my experience off as my own... I think if you are oe of the majority of people who AREN'T used to all those escape-room-at-home gimmicks, which I'm guessing NPH wasn't, honestly I think he did a good job with this. He clearly has respect for the genre and I think this reflects that.
@@gameon2553 I don’t think so, but I’m not 100% certain. But I would be very very very surprised if they have translated this game. Most games doesn’t get translated here in Sweden.
@@JohnBystrom I didn't think so, because there are so many English speakers in Europe. But if they did would you buy it for someone? Are there any Swedish game publishers?
You'll then know the answers, so you likely won't be able to *enjoy* it twice. But as another comment mentions, if you're gentle, you can carefully reset almost everything to the way it was for someone else to play.
I would like to review your outfit. I find it fun that you have gone for tie, suspenders and flathat, but if you coukd only match them that woukd be greater. Green shirt and red tie was already a choice, but then black suspenders could be improved. There is something to be said for the white in both the cap and tie, but the shirt and suspenders have their own style that could work, seperately. To be clear, feels like you got a 2/4 set and anither 2/4 set, that do not match. Sorry Tom Vassel, see you next time, hopefully in a 4/4.
This game has a spot where it makes you wait an hour. Then immediately after that it has a spot where it makes you wait 24 hours. I put it away and havent re-opened it since. Also I would play almost any other escape-room-type-game before this. I wasn't liking it even before the game thought it could control my schedule.
Do you own a cellphone or another device that connects to the internet? Do you live in or have access to a house/apartment? If you answered yes to both those questions, then you already have everything you need. Trust me.
