Another excellent episode! The soldier's medals belonged to Sgt. Thomas D. Mulhern, who served in the 361st Infantry Regiment, 91st Infantry Division. An article about him in The Oakland Tribune, June 22, 1945, stated: "Serving with the 91st Infantry Division in charge of a machine gun squad, Mulhern was captured last October 12 during a dawn attack on the Gothic Line, last mountain defense of the Po Valley in Italy. After being interned at a camp in Italy for four days, Mulhern was transferred to another camp just outside Munich via box car, with 50 men to a car. The trip took four days and four nights. Barracks at the camp were unheated, he said, and prisoners were never given a change of clothes."

The WWII stuff is fantastic. Might make a good book if scanned. Maybe a museum would be interested. Some units has dedicated museums, I know the 45th has one in OK. My grandfather was in the 157th attached to the 45th. His medals are cherished in our family. The few times he would talk about his service he said he "had been a guest of the Furer" I was still little when he died in 1975. I didn't find out until several years after his death that he was talking about being a POW. He hadn't wanted us grandkids to be upset. He was a genuine war hero. I've always been so proud of him and I've made darn sure that my kids know his story and understand.

Or try the war memorial society in your capital city near you . We had success, so might be worth a try . I have made many harsh comments about hard drug use... because drugs destroy lives and families. We sometimes see the aftermath of those wasted lives when going through lockers. It is tragic and sad. Anyone sensitive to that should not watch my videos. That said, I've never said I didn't approve of "the green stuff" or that it's bad. If you think you've heard that, then check yourself because you're wrong. I pass no judgement on those that want to smoke marijuana, be it for medical or recreational use. I think you should do what you want to do, as long as you're not hurting anyone else. For me, however, I don't smoke and rarely drink alcohol because I choose to do life as focused and clear as I can. My family deserves the best version of me that I can give them. Also, I consider myself driven and hard working, and those substances deter me from my course and distance me from my goals. But if I was like you and had medical condition that THC or CBD could help allieve, I would do it in a heartbeat, especially before using any product from a pharmaceutical. I apologize if this response seems a bit harsh, but I don't like to have someone misrepresenting my beliefs. You can agree, disagree, approve, or disapprove, but don't misrepresent me.

Folks, these are Jack's items. His choice to do with as he chooses. Truth of the matter if the kids got those medals and letters, if they are druggies, dollars to donuts, the kids will sell what they can and dispose of what they can't. So who is ahead?

If u can't find family, send to museum, check with VFW for guidance. I know the Smithsonian has a preservation arm for war time artifacts including the letters.
