This is the fourth video in a five part series addressing the relatively straightforward job of replacing the Intermediate Shaft Bearing (IMS) and Rear Main Seal (RMS) on a 986 Porsche Boxster. While replacing those two items is straightforward, actually getting to them is a different matter . . .
In the penultimate video I remove the chain tensioners so the IMS bearing can come out. I then show how using the right tools makes this a very straightforward job. I also discover the original IMS is in perfect working order . . .

Great video! I’m getting ready to swap 3.2L into my 99 2.5L and was going to service and check IMS while engine is out. This is fantastic video to guide me. Thank you

Awesome video mate, I am considering buying one of these cars and will no doubt be doing this at one point in the future, even as preventative maintenance when it's time for a clutch

Thanks - definitely do the IMS and RMS if you are in there doing the clutch

Really enjoyed this great explanation of fitting new bearing would you say that a badly worn ims bearing would throw up a cam variation fault code

Thanks. I doubt it, but you never know. A badly worn bearing will most likely cause catastrophic engine failure!

Nice set of videos, what was the old bearing like?

Thanks. The old bearing was perfect! Honestly I was expecting it to be fine, but it’s nice peace of mind to have the ceramic update in there.

Which kit did you use to do your replacements?

I used the dual row retrofit: lnengineering.com/products/the-definitive-guide-and-faq-for-porsche-ims-bearings/ims-retrofit/dual-row-ims-retrofit-kit-for-my97-01.html. I did want to use the IMS Solution which is a more permanent (and expensive) answer, but it wasn't available at the time.

You did not show how to remove the clip to hold the bearing in and to install the up before the bearing
@trackrekord

Removing the clip is straightforward - if I remember correctly I just put a nail in the hole that is in the end and was able to wind it out. Not sure what you are referring to for your second point.
