Octave chords are such malleable leads , you gotta respect it honestly. NOFX have had Melvin playing octave leads in every album since S&M Airlines. They’ve subsequently become one of my favourite chord shapes to play in the process

Ahh this makes a lot of sense. With B as the dominant of E and minor chord of D - two of the most common keys they use. I personally use octave chords on the a string instead - most of these when I play them would be at the second fret of A.

He also does the 1765 chord progression a lot like in not nows chorus and watch the worlds chorus. He'll just move the root note down from the 1st note to the 7th to the 6th then the 5th

also his vocal melodies are also similar. Listen to "There Is" by Box Car Racer and Ghost on the Dance Floor by Blink off Neighborhoods, he sings the exact same melody with different lyrics Lol.

@@gregcolor6280 Haha yeah definitely not the most affordable thing. For me it's probably paid for itself 100 times over already, but that's more so because this isn't really a hobby anymore. You can definitely get similar sounds with other plugins though, Neural DSP, Guitar Rig and Amplitude are all great productions, and are much more affordable.

You've mentioned that you use an Axe-FX pretty heavily. What models do you gravitate around for most of your tones?

I mostly use the CA3+ Rhythm & CA3+ Lead, then blend those together. I think they're modeled off of a Cameron CCV-100. Oh and for cleans I typically use the Shiver clean, which I believe is a Bogner Shiva.

@@SugarpillProd I'm 90% sure the CA3+ models are based on the Custom Audio Amplifers 3+ SE preamp. Billie Joe Armstrong uses one for his cleans and for his tinny "mid" preset.
