You know something now that I think about as a late 90s kid. Boys Meet World was really progressive and ahead of its time with all the gay jokes. I don’t think I really seen any of the characters act hostile other than being weirded out whenever they saw a suggestive scene without any context.
@@Kensan13 it wasn’t implied it was straight up said. I forgot the scene exactly but Eric asked a football player how being gay affected him or smth like that. That led to the football player coming out to the rest of the team. The team said that they were gay too.
@@richardgoranski it's funny I asked this question and then saw it on another video..I totally forgot that part, but once i saw it I was cracking up so hard..the reaction from Jack, Rachel, and Angela made that scene..Eric was either very clairvoyant about the football team or he was REALLY testing the capacity of the "lucky penny"
The fact that they could've maneuvered this into an actual romance (or trio because let's face it, Topanga was awesome) and Nothing would've changed, says a lot about how well developed they are
ive always been convinced that shawn was in love with cory and that's why none of shawn's romantic relationships ever worked, because he was always in love with cory
Without the laugh track and obvious "the joke is that they're not gay" humor this would have been a believable and wholesome relationship for me to see as a kid
@@Lemon.Lord.14 Yep, plus Eric is bi, so the odds are pretty good that Jack and him were in an open relationship of some kind, maybe undefined. If the show were remade, I don't think they'd need to code it with jokes, because people nowadays can tell.

Also, very cool of you to being doing things like this! It seems like whenever someone insinuates that Cory, Shawn, or other male characters are not straight or cis, people get very hostile, so this was fun to find!
Thanks :) Personally, I like to think about Cory and Shawn as a really good friends, because we don’t see this often, but nobody can convince me that Eric and Jack are straight (that’s why I have like 10 videos about them). I expected a lot of negative feedback about these videos, but until recently there were no comments of people complaining about it, so that’s cool.
I think people can get hostile over it because in the 90's this was one of the key bromance/"dudes can have feelings and not be gay" friendship. So telling those straight guys that the characters they used to define what okay emotional friendship looks are actually gay, makes them think other people are judging them on the same qualities and telling people that they are gay.
I feel like you can definitely view Cory and Shawn's journey throughout the show, not just as a relationship, but separately as characters in a queer lens, lots of coded language and jokes and whatnot. And it's a tragic one at that, like they typically are... It was confirmed by someone who worked on BMW that the 'homosexual undertones' were purposeful at least on her part, so who's to say that a lot of it isn't

God- I remember being a little gay kid seeing Shawn dressed up like a woman & feeling like ‘I am about this.’ lol these little positive moments- ambivalent, even- towards queerness were actually kind of a huge deal to little kids like I was at the time. So many days of my life were easier to live to just have SOMETHING, ANYTHING, that said ‘yeah it’s not a big deal’. That was super rare.
I mean, I am one hundred percent sure that Jack and Eric were dating, like for real and that stuff and I take the bromance of Cory and Shawn like that like a bromance but this is making me doubt

One thing i love about this show was the fact they had no toxic masculine like the guys in the show got along so well without being made fun of for being feminine or having a bromance it's something that's wholesome.
2:41 actually oddly soften my heart, I thought he was gonna execute a funny line like "I've never seen you before? Are you new?/Have I seen you before?" I was gonna prepare to laugh. But he just accepted the fact he might've been Trans, that means so much to me as part of the trans community too.
I've said it once and I'll say it again. If your relationship with your best friend isn't one step away from being a gay couple. then what's the point.
Just want to say that 8:00 when Shawn calls Corey a punk that that word is loaded in queer history. It was used in the 40s I believe and used against queer men. It outright meant deviant much like queer was. It also meant a young guy selling sex to an older man so Corey's rebuttal falls into that meaning as well.
I usually love shipping but these two are the ultimate bromance. I love them as friends but I love everyone who likes to see them as more than that too. You do you!

I remember watching this show with my mom if I woke up early enough when I was little and eating cereal on the couch. This is so much funnier now that I’m grown
I didn’t watch this show till I turned 20 (didn’t know it existed) and I really appreciated the fact that they didn’t get together cause it was such a wholesome relationship between to true best friends forever
Honestly Cory and Shawn’s relationship really reminds me of Eric and Jack’s and how close the four of them are. Obviously their relationships are different in terms of some core things but overall the parallels are pretty cool to see.
I have a friendship like Shawn and Corey and it’s everything to me lol. And yes we do bicker, support, and act like a married couple all the time. 😂 but I’ve literally been best friends with her since I was like seven. So yeah I’ve spent my most my life with her 😂 at this point we might as well be emotionally together.
I consider them definitely an example of queerplatonic dynamics for us all and included them nearly a decade ago in a collaboration fanvideo on my channel about QPRs on TV shows. ;)
