The winner of this race is now a 4:08 miler in HS. The 9th place finisher was almost 150 meters behind the winner is also a 4:08 miler in HS. The 2nd place finisher is now a 4:28 miler in HS. The winner improved 15 seconds whereas the 9th placer improved 37 seconds in HS. The second placer improved 5 seconds. Take these middle school races with grain of salt. Kids are at different growth stages and some aren't fully developed yet while others are much further along in physical maturity.
totally agree with this some people definitely have a breakthrough season in their freshman and sophomore years meanwhile some runners like quincy wilson simply have that talent from 8th grade.
I hope, I truly hope, someone is looking out for this kids longevity. He’s an insane talent but if not brought along intelligently, he could easily burnout before college.
That kick was absolutely insane, he ran that really smart and saved the most energy, his cadence and stride looked so relaxed in comparison to everybody else then he just hammered holy jeez
That's fast. This kid is pretty well developed for 8th grade. Sure it can translate into high school and it probably will, but he has some definite advantages . I'm sure he works hard too, just saying.
5:01 for 8th grade is fast...4:23 is off the hook, a tick faster than I ran as a soph, when I was chasing Mark Conover, who, ten years later, won the Marathon trials in 1988
