ayoub laarouchi Astro sky isn’t the most knowledgeable. Tomaazo obviously spent more time actively researching and watching Dr Mews videos. A lot of Astro skys advice is out dated.

This guy obviously just gets straight to the point and only talks evidence and not so much about experience. Just like when he proved to the orthodontist that he's palate had expanded etc. While your videos are more about pictures and your own experience. Not saying that it's not information to take into consideration but it's a bit different from this.

I was doing research before getting braces as I was extremely cautious. I directly asked the orthodontist if my jaw shape would change, and they said no. They just want money :/
I think the orthodontist tried to correct my misaligned top teeth and it looks like it pulled my right side of my face a little down, and in order to bite down properly my jaw had to realign so now my right side of my face looks pulled down a little
I’m getting them in two weeks bc I have a 107% over bite lol my appearance isn’t to bad but the teeth o-god But to prevent them from looking worse I floss twice a day brush for 5 minutes a day so there white and have no plack but aren’t straight
@Jerick Nucasa I have braces and im mewing if i get results with mewing before i take my braces out and start wearing the retainers Is my results from mewing going to dissapear if i just stop mewing and wear the retainers they give me after im done mewing with braces?
Dr Mike Mew has clearly described this issue with the following recommendations: if you have had braces, you require some sort of retention after the procedure, this is not his opinion it is best practice. You should have a consistent retainer in order not to damage your oral situation, thus, the best option is a fixed retainer. In Dr Mike Mew's opinion, this should not inhibit further facial expansion.
Are we pushing the maxilla or the teeth?! In my opinion, mewing works with braces and i believe it accelerate the process. And, i think mewing push the maxilla not the teeth, while braces push the teeth. You should wait for Dr. Mew answer this question.
@@katjerouac I have my wore off because my ortho gave me tmj from too much retraction/pushed my lower jaw back and I'm mewing right now and I did get a gap on my two front teeth and my gaps were the teeth were extracted went from 9.50/10 closed to 9/10closed and my palate did expand from the sides and the front. I still have the tmj he gave me though :(
Ok so I'm really confused and don't know what to do. I have a removable retainer for my upper teeth and a wire one for my lower teeth. Here are my questions: 1. If I shouldn't wear a retainer while mewing, should I also have the lower wire taken off? 2. What will happen to my lower teeth while mewing? If my palate expands and my teeth move, won't that ruin my occlusion? Or will the lower teeth move together? 3. If my palate expands, won't spaces open between my teeth? 4. If I stop wearing the retainer, won't my teeth go back slowly to their position before the braces?
Ok so today i removed my fixed retainers by myself and to make sure my theeth wont reverse im gonna mew 24/7. I will update u guys after 6 months and after 1 year. Please remember me guys i wont ditch yall like many other ppl did ✌️

Hey i know i'm late but maybe try to mew gently and don't touch your teeth?What i mean is just push your tongue upward but avoid touching teeth..so it will expand your maxilla but at the same time it won't effect your teeth..sorry if i'm wrong though
My Dentist told me I have to wear it every night. When I dont, my front teeth get a gap in between. And when I take it off during the day, after a few hours it already hurts when I put my retainers, because I naturally mew. I'm in a dilemma.
Same here! Except my front teeth crash together. But it always hurts when I put back on my retainer, even though my orthodontist told me to keep it every night. I feel like it was kind of rude of everyone to say I needed braces and it made my chin really weak. Maybe I'll just stop wearing the retainers and focus on mewing for a change. I want a more defined chin.
@@LOB47 my face has drastically lifted up and out. I didnt expect results this fast, but I am 15. I just dont know how my parents will react when they find out I havent been wearing my retainers. I havent had any relapse and I can see that my palate is wider and, after a few sessions of tongue chewing I could drastically feel how much deeper it was.

I'll start mewing hard-core and see try not to get my teeth shifted.. Thomas said it keeps teeth straight which is logical for crooked teeth but I'm not sure for originally gapped one. You can still mew while wearing the retainers. Retainers are used to keep you IN that widened state, but mewing doesn’t just widen, it also pushes your face forward. This means if you mew while keeping you tongue AWAY from your teeth, and the SIDES of the roof of your mouth, keeping an upward force, you can still train you tongue posture, and get the other effects of mewing, without worrying about extra teeth widening. Just PLEASE, do NOT expand your tongue out, and if you can’t put it on the roof completely anyways, then the job with the braces were not satisfactory, and you should get them back on to improve your mallet further.

@@thegnome9529 Yeah, exactly the same for me, except, I started mewing at 16. since it's during puberty, you would have probably seen results after 3-6 months, compared to an adult (under the age of 60), that has to wait 2 years.
My teeth were completely fine besides one which no one including myself noticed. I bet mewing could’ve solved that slight problem rather than a year or two of braces.

It's completely okay to mew along with braces on(but they shouldn't pull out your teeth) Also don't touch the roof of teeth with your tough but place the tough on maxilla, it will teach your teeth to move inward without taking whole maxilla inward I m physiotherapist and on braces journey also Also improve your diet and drink lots of milk Take big bites of non crunchy food to accelerate the function of jaw and maxilla Do fasvial exercise and oil pulling plus thumb pulling You are gonna see results inshaaAllah
Did you wear your retainer? Can you please tell us your experience, in a few weeks im going to finish my orthodontic treatment so i dont want to waste it.
Im one of those people that wear my Essix retainers at night and mew 24/7 and if you CAN go without yours, do it. But if you cant, like me (my teeth turn and needed to be pulled down so im cautious of wearing the retainers) you can still mew. You wont see change to your teeth and palate expanding but it will help in other ways too. I have a better jaw and bite now, face looks wider and less narrow, no droopy chin. The benefits are limited when you have retainers but if its something you dont wanna change because your teeth move back quick, try seeing a specialist about this type of thing. Im not completely sure the solution, maybe theres a moving retainer that can help widen your palate. Hopefully in a few years, mewing tools will be widely available

Do you think it will cause the same "stake on the ground" effect if you used your Essix retainers all day every day while mewing (except when eating)? @@hanensakka5954 I got my braces off about 5-6 months ago and can honestly say that my mouth and palate is definitely wider. I also may have room for my wisdom teeth when I didn’t have any room for them before. Do it as much as possible, before braces, during braces and after when you’re using a retainer.
To answer people's questions who had lots of dental work and braces and require a retainer now, just get a permanent one on the four front teeth and lower can be fixed or removable one

@@Missmmmmmmmmmm Most likely not. I have mewed for 2 weeks without using my retainer and I wasn't happy with the way my teeth were going. I personally think mewing is a hard habit to learn (especially placing the whole tongue on the roof of the mouth) so I've decided that for now I'm going to keep learning and practicing body/tongue posture, closed mouth and nose breathing until it feels natural. When it does, I'll have to decide wether or not I really trust the method and stick with it. It would be best to have a doctors input but I don't think they even know about this.
copped it might be easier for people who haven’t crooked teeth lol, it’s hard to throw away your retainer when at least that is what maintains your teeth straight .. it takes a long period for your teeth to keep a position where you may not have to wear the retainer in the night or fully, so i think we should learn how to maintain a good tongue posture meanwhile and maybe in the future practise mewing ..
@@copped469 been meeing for a year, and trust me mewing doesnt really help for crooked teeth or at least that's what i notice, i still have crooked fronth teeth, but it really helps you to get chisled jawlines and prominent cheekbones, and also i don't see it can help you to fix recessed chin.
Actually i hv seen other videos . They nothing happens as mewing causes orthopedic movement whereas braces r movements of teeth n don't affect the bone structure.
@Re: overbite can be corrected by pushing the lower jaw outwards. there is no need to push things inwards. it messes up your whole face. i too have an overbite, its the result of a narrow palate + underdeveloped jaw

i've been mewing for a few months, i can already see some results and also my orthodontist have always praised the progress with my teeth so i think its okay, but i'm gonna ask him if the braces are pushing inwards or outwards anyway
@@showery1376 he gave me quite of a weird answer, he said that my braces where not pushing my teeth in any specific direction, according to him they where just "repositioning my teeth to look and work better in a general way", i asked people on the mewing subreddit and one of them told me that maybe there was something wrong with my ortodontists work, but thankfully at the moment i already got rid of my braces and can mew normally now

Hi Tomasso, thanks for the info. My daughter had her braces put on yesterday. We asked the inward/outward question and they said it's inwards but there is no other way to do it. They also said it is the best way, which I didn't want to get into an argument about. So, we are giving it a try and see the results for a month (see if the look/profile is improving or just the opposite).. My question is: once she gets her braces removed in case she keeps them "as they are" for the next 2 years, will it be ok to start mewing then? or would it move them all back to a bad position? Well proper mewing straightens the teeth and expands the palate but those braces would shrink her palate so if she were to start mewing it would be counterproductive because the braces would have made her do the opposite of what mewing does

Personally i dont think wearing retainers and mewing will damage teeth permanently as loose teeth tighten themselves up Ive been mewing for 3 months and have a permanent retainer and still wear a retainer
Ten Parsecs is this really that bad? I wanna do this with a removable retainer for the upper 6 teeth, (yes I know lol it exists) and in this way I can still mew while wearing that one every 4-5 days
@@brann6001 its overdramatised (As is most benefits from mewing in my opinion aswell) Braces make teeth loose aswell but they rarely cause damage (unless your the unlucky 2% that experience root reobsorption) the human body is self healing the teeth adapt to their new places and if teeth are loosened they will tighten (You likely wont make enough palate expansion mewing daily to wobble your teeth to much anyway) but if you DO feel them very tight you can put your retainers under a warm tap to loosen them slightly thats what i done but be careful not to damage them
T M yeah, I was a bit weirded out because I have my retainer for about 4 years now, and I always put that retainer in a few days in a week and it always hurt like hell putting back in, ive done this for 4 years now! No problems at all!!
@@brann6001 I mean, any effects you gain from mewing are reversed by retracting the teeth with the retainer each week. Even slight movement of the teeth (which you notice does occur by the pain caused by not wearing the retainer for a few days and then putting it back in) will be pulled back. With this wobbling effect Mike claims, I'm not sure about how true T M's 'the body will heal itself' theory holds. If you're moving the teeth every few days, is that enough time for them to set and heal? Things you've got to thing about longer term than 4 years

From which evidence did you conclude that braces push teeth either inwards or outwards? How can mewing damage "braces that push teeth inwards" if mewing is the posture we are ascribed from birth thus an entirely natural norm? As to you last recommendation, what is your opinion on Dr Mike Mew's content about retainers - he believes a fixed retainer can be combined with mewing and should not inhibit facial growth? I am genuinely interested in your response to this issue as I currently have braces myself and am a bit lost on what to do as everyone is answering the same quite scientific question with different non-scientifically approved answers. So if you have a retainer you are basically screwed cause I have to wear a retainer at night the rest of my life, oh well. I have a good jaw anyways but kind of annoying for anyone looking for improvement through mewing but can’t due to medical reasons they cannot control

Devine Sky I suspect you get some of the best gains while sleeping. The gravity is degreased and thus it’s easier for the jaw and cheekbones to be moved in the desired direction. It pretty much happens automatically. When I wake up my toungue is now at the top of my palate and I can feel my cheekbones engaged more than when I’m standing. I also sleep on the floor on a carpet, on my back, with a very thin pillow.
@Ganda Gandara Yes, It is very hard to sleep without a pillow for a few weeks to months because it is such a long habit we've had. Big adjustment to make, but I've finally gotten to the point that I'm sleeping comfortably and I'm not hitting my head on the headboard lol. Hardest part is figuring out where your head is at on the bed. The pillow acts as a guide so without it, you need to adjust over time to find the proper placement for your head. I myself touch the head board with my hand as I lay down and then i adjust to a good position based on how far my hand feels from the headboard. Interestingly enough, I actually feel like I'm using a pillow now although I am not. In other words, my neck has adjusted to being flat on my bed. Also, without a pillow, you don't have as much gravity pulling down your bottom jaw because you aren't tilting your head forward which a pillow causes. So, mewing at night could get easier if people just get rid of the pillow! :) Good luck with your progress!
I had 4 extractions and braces put my face back I dont want my teeth to shift nor for gaps to open up again but if I only wear my retainer at night what am I supposed to do have bad posture
I have been mewing for 2 months WITH my Hawley retainers, wearing them every night and got my teeth checked out by my dentist and she told me that they are gonna have to give me new retainers as my Pallete expanded. Im 17 btw

I have plastic retainers (almost like invisalign). I mostly got braces for my bottom teeth since some were crooked. What if I only wear the bottom retainers. My top teeth were already naturally straight. Will mewing keep my top teeth straight? And will I still achieve some results? Awesome videos btw!

dude from personal experience, get that off RIGHT NOW. it messed up my face because it affected tongue posture. now I took it out and I can finally mew properly and my face is changing for the better now that its out
@Sofie u Yes, mewing is still possible with a retainer. If you remove your wire retainer, I can assure you that in a few years your teeth are gonna be crooked, regardless of whether you mew or not. Teeth always try to go back in their original 'natural' position, so if you don't have something that counteracts that force you're gonna mess up your teeth.
Bruh so it's almost been a year since i stopped wearing retainers... teeth didnt get crooked. Turns out i never even needed orthodontic work. What a huge scam 😡😡
So I have braces and they push my teeth inward. But I think that this does not mess anything up because you’re pallet will still expand and it still strengthens you’re maxilla
Orthotropics and other sources say that having retainers on only the four front teeth is allright, and shouldn't per se influence the efffects of mewing. In my case, I have permanent wired retainers on upper and lower four front teeth. What do you think, could my mewing still be effective? It does feel like it's making a difference
I currently have ones on my upper teeth Bottom ones not yet(didn't finish with the braces) it's been a month i can feel slight slight changes in the zygo bones(also did tmj exercises)

By the way, everybody is always talking about “maxilla this” “maxilla that” but the truth is you *don’t* want only your upper jaw(maxilla) forward, you want lower jaw too.
To sum of the video: if you wear braces or retainers its bad to mew, only time you actually have a chance is when the braces are pushing your teeth outwards. But its still bad, not as bad as if they were pushing inwards or retainers but thats the only chance you get. If you are wearing a retainer and mewing stop. It can damage teeth. Guess ima be a ugly mouth breather the rest of my life
Could u also talk about how much pressure you put on the roof of your mouth, I cannot do hard mewing very long, especially in sleeping, my tongue is resting on the roof without any force
Its funny how I wear my retainers and it would like have a huge bimaxillary protrusion so it makes me think mewing while wearing my retainers would probably make it worse
I had braces to align the teeth ( had a really bad tooth gap) , not fix my bite. I get them off in two months. And then I have a retainer that I'll have to wear. I will wear it 100% because I certainly don't want my tooth gap returning. After all, the retainer is just for permanent results that I already paid for. Just upset that I won't be able to start mewing until another year.
Can you provide the peer review research studies for not wearing a retainer. I cannot find any that are published. You are speaking and telling young people to not wear their retainers. Do you understand that you are opening yourself up for liability. I am a parent who has spent over $5000 on orthodontia and retainers for my son who now refuses to wear his retainer and sites you and your RU-vid channel as his “source” of information.
Can anybody give me advice or some answers?: I’ve recently been wearing aligners suggested by my orthodontist which is sorta like a crossover of braces and retainers. Aligners look and fit like a clear plastic retainer but it moves the teeth whereas retainers only keep teeth in place/keep teeth from not shifting. I don’t know if this will effect my mewing results. A comment answering this would be appreciated.
@@ryhanahmed5849 get a dial calliper and measure your intermolar width as shown on the orthortropics channel. Make sure that width is increasing and that you are getting expansion while you are mewing. If your intermolar width gets smaller chances are you're mewing incorrectly thus causing the upper teeth to relapse and then the lower teeth will relapse too. However, if you are getting expasion do not worry about your lower teeth moving as they should be moving into there preferred position as the mandible expands along with the upper jaw.
@@ryhanahmed5849 also your teeth move throughout your life, your retainer wont keep them straight forever because chances are you arent gonna wear them when your 30 unless you're commited to them. The tongue is a better orthodontic appliance than a retainer so work hard and really improve your oral posture and function.

I don't understand, does mewing mean putting your tongue in the proper posture or there's other meaning/technicality in mewing? I have removable retainers and my tongue has always been in a proper posture (as I beleive so--- tongue resting on top and not pushing teeth). Is it bad?
