Customer found some rot on one of their brackets. Good time to do some welding and fabrication.
I really enjoy fabricating complex brackets like this.
Welding up suspension brackets is really what I enjoy doing.

I'm not a welder by any means. But I love to weld. As long as I'm welding. I hear the crackle I'm ok and I'm increasing my skill. God bless Scott

I believe you have the hang of it with upside down welding. “Man up and go for it!”

Great job as usual Scott! I don't miss working on trucks since I retired in 2018. 48 years was enough for me.

That's so different to what I thought you meant when you said replace this box. The side with the bolts through I would have also cut out. And, seeing how rusted the brace was I'd have cut that out and repaired it too. He guy wants a repair done to make it strong not roadworthy. Oh well, you're in business since you know how far to go. Good prep. Use just the air to cool it off instead of soaking the place. That's my tech tip of the day!

I’ve said this before and here it is again-you are definitely surgical with that torch. Now to show my ignorance-would an angle grinder accomplish the same thing in this instance? Thank you for posting this video too!
@simcoespring
@simcoespring Год назад
yes, you can do all of this with zip blades and an angle grinder. It would take me a lot more time. I prefer the torch just because I can use it.

Have you ever looked into arc air set-up ? great for finding the seams between the steel plates. used for gouging out cracks & lancing out frozen pins. The expendable carbon rods are cheap. Keep up the great work.

Your welding is awesome and equal to your torch cutting. You’ve got to be saving your customers $$$$ by keeping their trucks on the road and running great. BTW you have the tidiest truck suspension repair shop I’ve ever seen.

Nice job...why not weld inside like to the right and left of the bolts?

I had thought about it...however it wasn't how it was designed so I just duplicated what was there.

I was wondering if a section of HSS would fit instead of bending those plates? Looks like it is about 8x3?

What a stupid design for a suspension, and flimsy too. Water and mud get trapped in the rectangular pipe and rust the whole thing out. All to save 10 bucks worth of steel plate. BTW Don't Not you need to weld the inside seam of that box section? Water will get into the crack and rust it out again in no time.
