You've almost gotta wonder if Marchand's reputation works against him at times. Had that been Bergeron, I feel the trip likely would have gotten called.
@@shawnf820 thats not correct lol. tripping has to be an intentional movement with the leg, or a stick related penalty. The offensive player running into another player is not considered tripping nor has it ever been.
It’s actually a marginal call to make. When Marchand cuts back, it’s not the stick wave that takes him down - it’s his skate clipping the skate of the defenceman. In real time, it’s hard to tell on the video, but if you watch it slowed down, it’s very clear. I don’t think you can claim that the defenceman makes a specific motion to trip him with the skate. He does have a wide stance in his turn and leaves his back foot out there through the turn. I can understand why Marchand is mad, because he believes the dman is hanging the back foot on purpose ( and that may well be true). But it’s a tough spot for the ref honestly. Are you really going to call a trip every time the player cuts back and makes contact with the d-mans back skate? I dont think so. Fortunately Marchand dealt with it in the classy professional manner we would expect that has teammates would appreciate. 😂
The ref can’t even say he didn’t see it. It was literally right in front of him. Even if he wasn’t looking directly at them, at a quick glance back it’s obvious there was a trip
It did indeed happen right in front of the ref...but what happened wasn't a trip...it was 2 players who's skates got caught up and Marchand fell. You're responsible for your stick at all times, yes, but you're entitled to your space on the ice for your skates. Kempe did not move at all in his turning position. Marchand skated into Kempe's trailing skate and proceeded to fall.
@@JoeyVilleneuve you are clearly delusional. Kempe with his skate clearly tripped player with a puck. It literally does not matter how it happened, trip is a trip...
@@fangru7294 tell me you don't know the rules without telling me... Let me guess, hitting the goalie is fair game if they're out of their crease, right?
You don't have to call a penalty every time a player falls. Watch it in slow motion and it was Marchand's abrupt turn that caused their feet to collide. The kings player didn't even drag his foot, it was just there because he was turning the opposite way. Good non-call. I love those color guys, they are entertaining and fun to hear. On the other hand they are the undoubtedly the most biased announcers in the NHL.
It’s a bad angle but at the end his back foot went out. It wasn’t much but it was enough. It’s a trip… any player has a right to the ice he’s skating on especially trying to make a play. Another player trips them doing so… that’s tripping
I see it exactly the way you do man, this was a 50\50 situation but then the ever-opportunistic Marchand tries to oversell it and draw a penalty, the jump in the air is what made it so Hollywood that the ref decided not to call it.
@@sjsomething4936 really? Over opportunistic Marchand? It was clearly a trip! I'd be pissed too! Don't like Brad? Bet if he were on your team, you'd have a different opinion! Bruins fans love Brad!
@@rezotydnic if he played for my team I’d stop supporting them, as I did when another player I despised for his dirty play was on the team for a few years. Marchand is extremely talented but a whiny poor sport who can’t take losing. Nobody likes to lose, but most of us when we grow up realize that it’s not worth being a shithead over. Please explain how he ends up a foot in the air going basically straight up if it was a purely a trip, this is a play that Marchand is well known for doing, just this time he was not rewarded for it.
@@iladiesnutzoyochin it is what it is. As a leaf fan, i regularly get embarrassed by leaf fans that live in toronto and tbh, the leafs themselves sometimes ( people can call me a fake leaf fan, but im just realistic, they f- up way too much lol). Banter between fan bases is fun but some people just get too into it when its suppose to be fun.
I'm concerned for Jack Edwards- he's not wrong here but he's also losing his grip on how to call a game and it keeps getting worse. I hope someone sits down with him and has a serious conversation about retirement
Jack Edwards is too much of a fan to provide live commentary on air. People used to accuse Joe Bowen of being a homer but he never did stuff like this.
1) This play happens quite a bit during games. I guess it’s a penalty sometimes but if it’s not called it’s not worth the reaction Marchand had. 2) Hilarious chirp by Doughty. 3) Jack Edwards is still as painful to listen to as ever.
he also played on much better teams for most of those five years but i take your point. I dont think anyone is saying marchand is bad at hockey, he just lets his temper get the better of him a little too often.
@@thomasriishojgaard5677 if you actually watch the games he was the Bruins best offensive player for like the last 4 or 5 years and completely drove his line. Yes even better than Pastrnak. Much better teams my ass, keep coping buddy.
The officiating was just like the camera operator tonight. Not quite sure the people doing it knew what they were doing. Camera couldn’t find the puck and was just staring at the neutral zone 90 percent of the game. Refs did not want to call trips or holds all night. Puck doesn’t lie though, Frederick came out huge at the end.
Dude trips over someone elses skate and has a tantrum about it 😂 there was very clearly no intent to trip him. The broadcaster sounds like an idiot because the ref obviously had a much better view of the incident.
I usually try to be as respectful as possible, but this comment is so fucking stupid. Do you think that the players always have an intent to take a penalty? How do you think Marchand "tripped over someone elses skate"? Probably because the defender put his leg in front of Marchand. You could basically say the same thing about every penalty ever. Oh, a high stick? Yeah the dude's fault for putting his face into the opponents stick.
@@jamesi6262 You're fucking stupid for getting so tilted in the youtube comments 😂 Thanks though, I do enjoy laughing at stupid! The defender was skating normally and did not drag his leg behind him in an attempt to trip. It was Marchands own stupidity and lack of balance why he fell. Sorry if that triggers your sensitive brain but its a fact and the ref had the best view of the incident. Literally indisputable except by angry biased fans like yourself. Now, if you'd please take your unnecessary aggression and go fuck yourself with it 😘 With respect, Ganymede
Marchand can ask the ref why in a respectful way. His reaction was over the top for a call like that. Also the ref could have ignored his tantrum and moved the game along. A subtle way of saying he should have called it.
@@BieshmacTripping/Clipping | Rule 639: _”Tripping is the act of placing a stick, knee, foot, arm, hand or elbow in such a manner that causes his opponent to lose balance or fall.”_ • Scenarios ‘Should a tripping penalty be called in every instance when a player falls down, even if the offending player clearly and successfully plays the puck?’ *”No.”* [Rule Reference 639(a Note).] _The spirit and intent of the rule is to not penalize situations where the defending player has clearly attempted to and then played the puck with the focus solely being on the puck. Lol, then only thing I DIDN'T see in that clip was a trip. If Marchand wasn't such a garage human, he'd be knocking the door of legend status when he retired, but instead he will be remembered as the licker.
Indeed, it was by far the clearest trip ever LOL, but yet was a building of emotion within the team, to rally. Karma and the hockey gods found the balance.
Most players would throw their hands up, bark at the ref, then suck it up and move on. Figures Marchy is too big a baby for that kind of restraint. I'd be pissed if I was his teammate.
There is NO penalty against marchand. Any and All players should be permitted to crosscheck him, high-stick him and whatever they want to him, every single game. Hopefully we get to see him suffer a career ending injury so we can watch it again and again and again!
@@mfdirty336 Nothing. But we are talking about one of the most disgusting players in the history of the NHL. He deserves every cheap shot and dirty hit he receives!
Against the Penguins he gets called offside on a 2 on 1 when he was clearly on side. Tonight this. He gets shafted by these refs when he’s misbehaving and when he’s behaving. I don’t blame him for being pissed off.
Brad Marchand hasn’t been getting calls for years because of his rep. He’s been totally clean all season. Also, why are we letting that dictate calls? If it’s a trip, CALL IT.
These refs need to be told. They are so protected from any scrutiny or having their poor little feelings hurt, they need to be put in their place. Here's a concept, 'Call the game fairly for both teams, and be consistent'....nope too much to handle for Babyface Bettman's pet zebras. 🤷🏻♂️
There was no trip. Did you see the opposing player ever extend his leg while in close proximity- to even indicate a willful attempt to trip Marchand? No. Good call ref.
How can you expect not to get a penalty for breaking your stick from the bench into the 'field' of play? Probably wouldn't have got the penalty for words, but obstructing the safety of the other players and officials is pretty unsportsmanlike.
That was an easy call, marchand tries fruity cut back to avoid hit (we all know he is made of glass) but he didn't cut hard enough to get around the defense man and trips over his legs. No call was absolutely the right call. Send that cry baby to the minors to join his people.
@@spacetoast7783 anyone can see that was a trip. But Jack Edwards and the worst of the worst in terms of play by play and his color commentator doesn’t do him any favors
Intentional or not, it was a trip. Ton of unintentional trips called every night because well...they're trips! Should have been called and thanks to Jack for calling out that dummy ref.
I've work in back of house at NHL games, refs legit drink alcohol in between periods. It's a weird thing that's not talked about but this is definitely a case of not looking or noticing his surroundings
Don't worry when he got back the the team's bench after the penalty all his team mates got together gave him a big hug told him it will be OK and licked his face better.
actually, he rammed a goal down the Kings’ throat. NHL fans severely suffer from a terrible mental affliction known as “hate us cause they ain’t us,” highly contagious stuff
Calling that unsportsmanlike is like saying you're not supposed to be upset over the concept of being graped in the ass in front of thousands of people.
This is where Marchand needs to stay in control. Let the ref know you didn't like it for sure. But to take a penalty when you should be on the PP is just not wise. Don't punish your own team for a non-call!
He was pissed. We all get pissed at times. This was a high energy, emotional adrenaline filled game. He got lost in that moment. Should he have swore and broken his stick and got a penalty? No. But he's human. AND he did come right back with a goal, sooo 🤷♀️👍👏👏👏👏🐻
i bet youd be screaming if that was one of your players and it didnt get called, that or you dont know a single thing about hockey and how clear of a trip that was
Edwards has been slowing down a hell of a lot in recent times. Now it just sounds like he's thinking through molasses and the game's passed him by already.
I know what you mean, but us hockey fans need to watch MLB and the NFL to see how bad hockey refs could be. What if we could teach Angel Hernandez to skate?
