Brad Rapira a man who has had an impact on my life since connecting last year at a Tāne Matua Wānanga which is like a males retreat that hosts around 100 men mostly all of whom a Māori.
In this episode we talk about health and wellness, connecting to Te Ao Māori, navigating relationships as tāne, being a black belt in JiuJitsu, being dyslexic and so much more.
Hope you enjoy this wholesome kōrero.

Speaking about the 200 years ago if somebody was struggling the whanau would step in amd support. Made me think how a friend in the uk that works in like a cyffs organisarion is implementing a system that comes from maori systems. Looking to keep the kids in the family first before removing children. We are lucky to be able to still remember and see when people thrived in tribes. Colonisers have long forgotten it i feel like that is some of our trauma no clan, no tribe less and less community more n more individual focussed. It needs a rethink and maori customs is the place to look i think and the aboriginal people amd africa.

55:19 it’s worrying that a lot of Māori are looking to this guy for kaupapa, but it’s ultimately destructive hearing this bs. He comes across to innocent minds and due to his art of formulating dialogue that his kaupapa is on point, but it’s so left wing it’s insane if your fallas eyes and mind are open. Nothing about what he’s saying is ‘mindblown’ material, if it is? I’d ask my people to check themselves 👍

I doubt he's got a huge following but he obviously strikes a chord with some. Not my cup of tea but each to their own as long as hate etc isn't being preached I ain't too worried.

Destructive seems a little out of touch. The way he constructs his kupu is interesting but the points he speaks about are very real. Its not mind blowing stuff sure, but bringing these subjects to the surface can be helpful. If some resonate with this korero, great! But belittling people with your own opinion, cause that's what is. wont help yourself or others.

Do you get the feeling that they're trying so hard be have a deep conversation they miss what they're talking about is actually really simple? Like primary school level?. I get the BS comment cause there's all this korero but nothing really being said
