The last scene was filmed within an hour of Gaga’s best friend dying of cancer. She rushed off set and missed her by 10 minutes. She came back and filmed the scene because her friend’s husband told her that’s what she would want her to do.
rhiannon hookings the main writers where bradly Cooper and Gaga but for the country songs they also brought some of the absolute best country lyricists Jason Isbell (2 time America writing artist of the year) and Lukas Nelson (willie Nelson’s song who is huge in the alternative country scene) they are literally two of the best writers alive as of right now they did their research
The first song Jackson does on his concert is so good. I wish it was longer. You know? Like an 8 minute black sabbath song or sg. But it seems short to me. I love that song the style, the vocals, the riff👌
I can't help but feel like I've heard The deep end song a billion times in my childhood.. Like literally have heard it a billion times. My mom was a fan of old country music like that and I swear to god I've heard it before but nobody believes me lol.
I like the fact that this movie shows that love doesn't always rescue someone that's already too broken. It's not a "you rescued me from suicide" story. It's a very honest, real and true story, not sugarcoating anything and showing: Suicide happens even when love is around. You might love someone to bits but that won't be fixing them, suddenly. People blame themselves when they lose someone that way. But some people are so lonely inside, so lost and afraid, that you might have been a light for a few more moments and you might have eased the pain a bit - But you weren't the cure, neither were you the poison that did it. It's so extremely hard to describe and talk about. But always keep in mind that everyone is deciding alone. Doesn't matter which path it's gonna be in the end. Tough one. Sending love to everyone out there that really needs some.
I had thoughts about suicide last week, I didn't tell anyone. I was going to reach out to someone because I felt like I had to talk to someone about it but.. how? first, they wouldn't understand. second, it would crush them. third, it would crush them trying to understand. I really need to get it out so I'll just leave it out here I guess.
@@ggelston97 It's a good way to let it out. You obviously want someone to talk to, you want someone to know about it and it's a really good sign that you reach out via internet. I know that you know that when it gets too intense that you deserve to get professional help and I'm also sure that you already searched for numbers to call, professionals to possibly reach out to. Please believe me when I say: Been there, too. Been really close to actually doing it. Been in stationary therapy for a few months and what really helped me was talking to people that felt kind of the same, who did not judge, who understood and listened. It was a tough journey to get back on a more positive mindset. And the start to that was talking about it, not being ashamed about it anymore, not feeling guilty for feeling the way I felt. People are afraid of this and I totally understand you and what you mean when you say that people would react a certain way. They do. Most of them. That's why we have professionals that don't know us, that can try to help us when we can't. And that's the good thing in connecting to those that been through it, go through it right now. Demons don't just disappear. But we can try to learn to tame them a bit, I guess. That's what I did. And I really hope you find a way to talk to people that understand, that don't judge. Count me in. I'm here if you just want to chat and get some thoughts and feelings out of your system. And I'm sure there are many people online that you can talk to, write with, that are not destructive but actually helpful listeners.
How I see it is they became such good friends, and she's a very smart woman I doubt she believed that he really thought that, so I think that made her all the more shocked. She must have known that was about her character and not her as a person, but no one but Bradley wanted Gaga to act in the film with him. It must have hurt a bit though, no thanks to how the media and paparazzi used to make fun of her
SPOILER: Notice how the lights where red and blue when they were performing together and he was alive, then when he killed himself the lights on gaga were only red. And in the last performance the light was pure white coming from up above, no harm but bradley defo shouldve got that nomination !!!
even more importantly, not just the lights on her were only red, but they did the red and blue thing for the LAST time with the lights from the ambulance. when he killed himself, he also killed the red and blue theme. that's so GENIUS, I love stuff like that so much. I agree absolutely, they REALLY snubbed him of that nomination, he did a fantastic job with all the symbolism, foreshadowing and continuity. that belt scene when he's about to kill himself alone is so outstanding. when I watched the movie in the cinema the whole crowd gasped when the belt was shown because everyone immediately KNEW.
@@MrArmedBurrito and on top of all that they really nailed the point home that depression and alcoholism are ongoing struggles and ILLNESSES that aren't easy to overcome and that need to be talked about more on a grander scale. they're advocating for mental health a lot with this movie and its promotions and as someone struggling with depression myself I'm really grateful for that.
I didn’t even realize it until you point it out...At the beginning there is literally is a suicide prevention billboard in the back...Oh this is genius
I was staring at it wondering why they put it so prominent in the background. Didn’t even think about after then I watched him commenting on it and I was shook
The concerts are real. They're footage and the use of Willie Nelson's concerts. They asked if they could hijack his concerts after he was done and he agreed and his fans/audience also agreed.
The concert scenes are Glastonbury before Kris Krisstofferson played, and Coachella, where Gaga headlined. And it’s Willie Nelson’s son, Lukas Nelson, and his band that backs Bradley Cooper as his band, and Lukas co-wrote the songs and music for the film
He cries when he watches Beauty and the Beast when they all turn to furniture but doesn't cry when Bradley commits suicide. We know now that Dylan connects more to Disney films..
The dog thing ALWAYS tears me up. It’s so sad to me. The dog just misses his owners and lies there waiting for him to come home but he’s not coming home.
sorry to make this a bit dark but when i think abt my sisters cat not knowing ive died, that's what stops me from killing myself. like nothing really goes well in my life i feel, so ive contemplated suicide way more than i should, but what always stops me is a) not knowing whatll happen to me, and b) thinking of never seeing my sisters cat bc i love her and i know she loves me. that sounds trivial lol, but the dog thing reminded me of that also sorry for bothering you a year later lol my b
One thing he always does that I find hilarious is if there's a movie with a couple, it always reminds him of twilight. I bet he's subconsciously a twilight Stan lol.
I've noticed that too. Like, I find it amazing how whenever he does a movie commentary, no matter what he's always able to find something to relate back to twilight. I love it.
Dhruvil Desai people make multiple comments all the time i- you just don’t see them because they don’t get likes 🤷🏼♀️ i can’t tell you why mine get likes bc there’s no reason for it imo, i just comment as i watch and i comment to support him. y’all need to chilllllll lmao
bro i noticed the noose in the beginning too when i watched it for the first time in the theatre! theres a famous quote that says “if a gun is on the wall in act 1 youll see it again in act 3” so i guessed the ending immediately
It hasn't been said so someone must. But all the scenes where Lady Gaga Sings, its real, she refused to record the songs and then dub them in. That's why the scenes feel so real and Bradley Coopers and Lady Gaga's voices blend so realistically. (obvs they recorded them for the soundtrack but the movies all real and makes u love Gaga so much more!!)
@711lila Yes, but most singers working on films will have their vocals recorded in-studio, and added to the scenes later during post-production. It's rare to hear someone's raw, unaltered singing voice in a film.
That last shot with her having a wet tear. Made me cry harder. It’s a call back to that shot of her crying at the wedding. When you cry, if the tear comes from one eye first it’s sad if it’s the other eye it’s happy tears. The wedding shot and the ending shot the tears came from opposite sides. Showing the happiness and sadness.
I couldn’t help but notice the red and blue throughout the performances (like you mentioned), went from happy to us not seeing those colors again until the cops showed up at the house
We see the red/blue thing through almost the whole movie and then... boom, he kills himself and then there's a lot of white lightning and I thought it was like a punch in the stomach
@@JuliaJiggs honestly the movie is really quiet or maybe my TV sucks lol but I had to watch it a second time because he mumbled like the whole movie when he spoke 😂
When I watched this on Netflix i used the preview thing at the bottom and peeked at the end to make sure nothing bad happened and I saw they were all happy together because of the memory montage so thought it was fine but they TRICKED ME. 😭
When you're attracted to someone, everything in them looks beautiful. My first compliment was from the guy I had a crush on. He told me that my ears were really pretty. I sat in front of the mirror for hours and just tipped my head from side to side, wondering if it was true. It didn't feel weird at all, just sweet and romantic. So, I totally get the line about the nose.
In the beginning, Ally wrote Shallow then Jackson help finish it for her. In the end, Jackson wrote I'll Never Love Again then Ally help finish it for him.
It's not about him touching her nose. She had just told him that it was an insecurity and he THEN made it a point to tell her it was beautiful 🤦♀️ C'mon man, you're too cute to not get it.
What if some guy tells you your belly is really pretty but you're very insecure about it and then he starts stroking your belly.. Let alone having a drunken stranger caressing your nose. If you think that's normal; you are every predator's dream.
@@roddo1955 lol. Its a movie. She also got on a jet and performed with a complete stranger. In real life it wouldn't have gone down like that. Also, maybe think twice before describing someone as "a predators dream." Thats pretty fucked up my dude.
Chris McLain the truth is fucked up if that’s someone’s view on how things should be in real life then it’s just straight facts predators are gonna be after you if you think that shit is normal
@@roddo1955 No one ever said it was normal just saying the point of the subject and scene starting their relationship. Its not that deep and they didnt romaticize it lmao chill
what if shallow was actually foreshadowing the ending. think about it. “i’m off the deep end. watch as i dive in. i’ll never meet the ground.” shes in the perspective of bradley and that he would go too hard and won’t be able to stop it.
I watched this when it first came out, i.e. before Oscar hype, purely because I'm a Lady Gaga fan - and one of the things I unexpectedly enjoyed the most was the STUNNING direction, particularly the concert scenes. Its one of the film's major strengths. So I do think Bradley Cooper was unfairly snubbed for a directing Oscar.
I watched it in theaters too. Didn't know anything about it except she was in it. Thought it was going to be a cheesy love story- boy I was in for A RIDE
I mean...did you watch Roma? Sorry but when it comes to directing that movie deserved the best director oscar. Alfonso Cuarón is experienced and Bradley, while he did a great job, he's still new. Don't expect him to win an Oscar so soon especially when competing against Roma. That being said, he did deserve a nomination.
Also if you didnt notice, the final scene of Ally looking into the camera is the first time she did the entire movie. She can't be seen looking directly at the camera at all through the movie, always off to the side or away from
TheNraveles Yes! It’s sort of like, she dyed her hair back to brown, is singing the type of music Jack always told her she was meant to sing. When she looks directly into that camera is when we realize (and maybe even Ally herself also) that a true Star is Born!
Oh boy... I actually have a minor problem in how Bradley and the cast keep on spreading this information, considering there IS another scene where she looks directly into the camera, and it's literally the scene where they first lock eyes with each other (at the bar when she's singing La Vie en Rose). 4:07
@@franks8462 she's actually not looking at the camera. If I remember correctly, both Gaga and Bradley said that they tried their hardest to have her, even if a BIT look off to the side or not directly centered on the camera. The ending is really the only time she looks DIRECTLY at the camera, but that scene is the closest to it
The"I just want to take one more look at you" is a reocurring line in all the A Star is Born films. it's really sweet and meaningful each time it comes back at the end before "the sad scene".
And they had real audiences to make the concerts feel authentic. Also, how Jack and Ally met in the movie is basically how Gaga and Bradley met in real life, the whole "my nose is too big" scene actually happened to Gaga, Gaga's emotions during the final scene were genuine because she just lost one of her best friends, Sonya, Bradley was actually addicted to drugs and alcohol, Bradley worked for months to learn to sing and play the guitar and sound like Sam Elliot, AND Gaga's team was also Ally's team in the movie. Also, Ally's reaction to Jack calling her ugly was genuine; Gaga wasn't expecting that. 👏👏👏
Everyone kind of glazes over the award ceremony and that kills me. That is by far the most heartbreaking part of the movie. I have been her in that situation. Obviously not on national television, but at weddings, birthdays, parties. The love she has for him for holding and crying with him after he completely humiliated her is the most powerful kind of love. And it's leaves you absolutely gutted when the person you love is consumed by drugs and alcohol and becomes someone else.
Loving someone who humiliated you is not a a good thing. Him having depression does not absolve him of being an abuser. And I know this is not what you meant, but it sounds like you were idealising her love for him.
@@frenchgirl5878 The thing is tho, he didn't humiliate her intentionally. He wasn't capable of controlling himself at that point and I believe OP wanted to highlight the fact that instead of being mad and abandoning him because of embarrassment, she chose to stick by him and help him fight his battles with him as long as she was capable. And of course there's a line there that shouldn't be crossed and that people aren't obliged to stick by someone who's dragging them down. There are limits, definitely. And there are times when people go too far. But we can still acknowledge the fact that Ally's love for him was truly remarkable, selfless, and deserved praise. Especially because she wasn't just some doormat to him who'd adjust to his every wish. She didn't kiss the floor he walked on. She actually expressed her feelings and encouraged him to change and grow.
@frenchgirl5878 He was drunk. Why are you making this seem like he did it intentionally. She also forgave him, because he was sick and recovered (obviously not mentally)
I know I feel the same way....really sickening, isn't it? what the hell does it take? all the other directors had nothing on this movie...ugggghhh. Maybe they are making him pay his dues...anyway, it is just so wrong and so unfair. :(
Great, now I'm crying again. I cry every time I watch this movie. UGH. Side note: the reason the audio is so perfectly synced up during the live shots is because Gaga demanded that they all be recorded live because she hates when she watches a musical and you can tell they are lip syncing. Also, the dog was actually Bradley Cooper's dog. Just a couple of fun facts. There are more, you'll love them, look them up.
They filmed at Coachella and Glastonbury festivals. "I just wanted to take another look at you" is a line used in all four of the Star is Born movies. The male lead in all four of the movies kills himself.
No I think he always did kill himself except the one with Barbra Streisand because she didn’t want that for the movie. Her husband also didn’t want it either I’ve heard somewhere.
I love the impact of the gaga close up at the wedding, and then again at the final scene. The tears, just opposite emotions. The one closer, the other slightly farther away. The wedding close up with light behind her, the final scene with darkness behind her... Really creates such an impact!
it’s probably been said but every single song in the movie was recorded live rather than putting a soundtrack over visuals usually done in movies. props to bradley!!! and in the very beginning where lady gaga is walking away from work and the movie title appears, she was singing Judy Garland (she did the ‘50s version of the movie) and it was to pay homage to her.
They filmed the concert scenes in Coachella (Gaga was headlining) and Glastonbury (Kris Kristofferson was playing and he gave them like 5 minutes to shoot before his set, Kris was in the previous adaptation of A Star is Born with Barbra Streisand). Funny thing is they played the music without sound so a) they had clean audio and b) songs didn’t leak. For the Shallow scene and the final song they’re all Gaga fans invited as extras. And speaking of that last song, Gaga’s best friend passed away that very same day, she returned to set from the hospital and did the scene, it added a whole other layer of raw emotion. Glad you liked it!
This is by far the most beautiful version of this movie. And the fact that his death is a combination of mental illness struggles and a pure love being misunderstood thru that lens is far more touching than the other reasons for his death in the other versions
@@RosiesTintedGlasses They didn't want it to be recorded and leaked, so they said only first 2 rows could hear the signing. Snippets of Heal Me actually were leaked. An extra also said they didn't want any sneaky drones picking it up.
Dylan, I’m not gonna lie, I think this is where you shine. As much as I LOVE watching you watch the teenie bopper movies, (that I grew up with) the reason I fell in love with your music video commentary was that you have such a good eye and POV when it comes to quality filmmaking. I love watching you love something. Would love to see more of this if you can/want to🙏🏾
You can tell a movie is good when everyone in the audience has the same gut-wrenching emotions at the climax. With 15 minutes left of the movie you KNOW Bradley wasn't making it outta there alive but you want him to so so so badly. And then that final cut at the end where it goes back to them writing the song!! Lost it
I know that Bradley Cooper's tattoo sames silly but it's a reference to ww2 , soldiers used to draw that face on walls or on the ground for a remainder to stay positive or something like that, it's a known phrase "kilroy was here" it was adapted from another phrase used in in ww1 " foo was here" .
Why didn’t it end with Ally finding out it was the managers fault.... then she punches him, and the closing scene her taping a bag of peas on her fist?! 👊🏻
i love how natural this movie feels though and that it's realistic in the sense that if someone is addicted to something or has their own personal demons love won't always save them... great reaction as always dylan!
No bc out of the ENTIRE film, the saddest part is the dog laying down outside the garage. Like I just love animals so much that when they express any emotion except happiness it makes me cry. I could go on abt this but I won’t
Before the final performance, Lady Gaga’s best friend had died. Gaga decided to perform and dedicate the song to her, so at the end, when Gaga sang. Those were real emotions.
About your question if they film those crowd scènes at a venue, I once went to a concert and they interrupted it and said: ‘ okay now we have... please don’t mind the cameras and just go crazy, have fun!!’ And I ended up in a movie like that, I don’t really remember what movie it was for since it was I think 4 years ago. So I don’t know if it was the same in this movie but I’m pretty sure it was.
No Floods is legit one of my favorite Gaga songs she's ever written. When I first heard the music of ASIB, and especially the message behind Shallow, I was reminded of No Floods. In a way, those two songs share a lot of the same DNA.
Best part in this reaction was at 1:57 when Dylan's face just changes so quickly when Gaga starting screaming, and he's like woah chill Gags. Classic dylan
The acting in this movie is SO REAL it’s scary. No wonder we all thought Gaga & Bradley actually had a thing in real life. Their chemistry is amazing, and every actor in this is fantastic. This movie had me crying into my sandwich at the end the first time I saw it 😂
I think I've never cried that much while watching a movie. The whole movie is just soo good, because they built up the relationship between the two very intimate and relatable. The last sequence where lady gaga sings his song is beyond sad. I really really loved the movie, it showed the negative sides of the music industry and they combined it with the good sides of their relationship. Love love love
