Nice! You gotta listen to Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 9 "Kreutzer". It's an amazing violin sonata

Brahms Chamber Works are always Great. Be sure to listen to his Piano Trio No.1 as well.

This sonata is nicknamed the "Rain Sonata." It gets that name because the main theme for the third movement is borrowed from one of Brahms's art songs which is titled "Regenlied" -- but to me the first two movements also give me the impression of a rainy day. I do think that it's definitely a piece where you get more out of a second listen, and the same is true of Brahms's other two violin sonatas. All three of Brahms's violin sonatas are among my favorites, along with the violin sonata by Brahms's friend Amanda Maier. I also recommend the two Brahms clarinet or viola sonatas (originally for clarinet but Brahms also produced viola versions of both).

If you're going to give this a second listen, do the Kavakos and Yuja Wang recording. The interpretation there brings out a lot of emotion and color, it's a tender and sweet kind of a sound. I think Julia Fischer goes for more of a bold large sound here, she harkens more to a Heifetz sound almost.

Fischer is such a great violinsist. She is such a great Mozartian too.

This piece oozes with romanticism! The 1st movement is the one I recall whenever this composition is mentioned (I've seen it in "Romantic music" playlists). It doesn't really stand out, which is why it didn't "click" for me as an individual piece. However, it's a welcome addition to a romantically themed playlist (if you classify pieces by mood), and definitely belongs to a "Brahms essentials" playlist as well. I got to like it more when I listened to it again, so definitely give it a second chance! Also, I think there are some motifs that are present in his other compositions as well (I think one of his symphonies).

Listen to Brahms' Alto Rhapsody (op. 53). Little known masterpiece that will change your life

Other great violin sonatas include those by Faure and Strauss. And for an orchestral recommendation, Ravel Daphnis and Chloe Suite No. 2! Quite possibly the best orchestrated piece in the history of classical music.

Another great work by Johannes Brahms. Fischer is also a pianist and Avdeeva won the Chopin Competition couple of years ago. Great musicians.
