Eu amei e relembrei quando participava de um duo pianistico Ana Maria (eu) e Eliana Cutrim na década de 80 e tocamos essa obra.Parabens a vocês que foram maravilhosas

I think this piece, in this version, is one of the pinnacles of human achievement, right up there with Le nozze di Figaro, the pyramids, and Hamlet. It's one of the few things in this world that gives me hope for the species.

I walked down the isle when I got married to this piece. No Here comes the Bride in our church and it was perfect. Of course it was only the beginning that played.

First time I've heard this since I played it with Elizabeth Waight at Queen Mary College, London, in 1964. The pinnacle of my classical piano career. 52 years ago alas.

Some of the posts here refer to this as a piano arrnagement , but in fact it was composed before the orchestral version. I think it is more moving than the orchestral version. This is wonderful playing.

Thank you for making the very important distinction that this piano version for two pianos was before the orchestral version. I also agree pianos do it best. I’m disappointed the bass voicing is not heard above the alto when it’s suppose to take center and just as important is the thunder as the piercing twinkling highs.

Ha~i,Anastasia,Liubov♪ Bravo again as well as your performance of Mozart!!!☆ ①As you know, Whether the performance is successful or not depends on How gentle/merciful you begin to play (the first touch) and then you proceed to play in Magnificent. Such difficulties are well performed and cleared in your performance. ②You really understand and feel the image of music/tones the composer,Brahms felt and tried to design/express,I feels so.,but don't you? You moved me indeed. I appreciate you so much from heart^^

Ah, both being female explains why the gusto thunderous bass is not heard answering the alto in counter measure. As suspect attacking is missing, I’ll look for mixed gender who can bring it..

Nowadays it's called the St Anthony Variations, as musicologists now think that Haydn never wrote the theme. This is called Variation No 56b, and the orchestral version (written later) is 56a.

Thank you for informing. From Wikipedia: “ Brahms quotes a passage that really is by Haydn. In measures 463-464, the violas and cellos echo the cello line from measure 148 of the second movement of the latter's "Clock" Symphony,” but the rest is not Hayden’s style, but likely attributed to garner more publishers’ sales.

@GlynGlynn

Why not from memory? The variations on a theme of Handel (for solo piano) are always played from memory. Is this piece a lot harder than the Handel? (I don't think so !!!)
@musicboy1304
@musicboy1304 8 лет назад
+Glyn Banfield Beethoven once said something like: Why should I play it by memory? I can read music.
@GlynGlynn
@GlynGlynn 8 лет назад
+musicboy1304 And Borge said "I bought the music and have it with me, so I might as well use it!!!" (or something like that) It may have been Liszt who started the craze to play from memory, thereby barring a tremendous number of extremely talented pianists from taking to the platform!!
@waterkingdavid
@waterkingdavid 8 лет назад
+Glyn Banfield lol! Whose side are you on?! I am not a muso but I see Argerich regularly reading in performances, in fact even in this particular piece. Maybe cause playing without the benefit of a conductor but with another pianist requires fine tuning?
@moritzlaurer8392

+David Watermeyer Nearly every time musicians play together (in an orchestra, chamber music, whatever) they play with the scores.
@waterkingdavid
@waterkingdavid 8 лет назад
+Moritz Laurer Yes I know. I was just wondering if Glyn was joking above. I cannot imagine how they would be able to play a piece like this together without scores. All good things to you. I am just amazed at the ability of these performers. Miraculous is what comes to mind.
