I never use Braid, it is very hard on the fish, and it get tangled up in a lot of the aerator hose lines, and the aerator it self. One of my favorite lakes does not even allow braid. Also it will cut a groove in the eyelet inserts and eventfully cut you line. I use very light rods also, and don't want to risk breaking my poles, I have seen many poles get broken using braid, Fluorocarbon, is the best alternative
I recommend mono to anyone who is new to fishing! That’s just me. I think it’s more forgiving as far as casting, hooksets , and even learning how to use ur setup! And ur right wildbill braid is rough on fish and ur setups
Last year I used 80lb suffix 832..But When I run mono I use 30lb suffix seige or trilene 30lb xL or 30lb stren clear blue ..Something with low memory and good castabilty is a must..I thought about using 25lb flourocarbon it has low stretch and it cast great..Flourocarbon is in between mono and braid
For trolling on top you cant beat braid. You can feel the fish hit instantly. Up until the last 2 years I have used 17lb test trilene . Each line has its purpose. Mono sinks better in wind and it's more abrasion resistant than braid. So I like to use it in the river over braid. Braid gives you good hook sit and long casting abilities. Down side to braid is when you hook a fish the braid pulls tight on the reel and catches at that spot when you cast again.
I normally run braid on all my rods but it’s a pain in the wind so this year I’m thinking about rigging one up with mono just to have a diverse selection
@@MYFISHINMISSION yes sir that’s my thoughts exactly! I troll all day long with 1 rod anyway so I need something I can just throw out there and forget about it
@@MYFISHINMISSION plus braid does float real bad so I usually use one rod an troll all day an on that rx7 I've had boys ask me if I shot a 22 pistols bc it cracks
I run 80lb 832 with a 50lb fluoro carbon leader. You have to use fluoro as a leader because of the no stretch. If you use mono as a leader, you're defeating the purpose of the braid. For people that like to swarp, you have to use mono or it's possible you're going to snap your rod every hook set. Bill dance it! I've fished with braid the last 4 years and have never snapped it. My hook ups, increased a 100% once I went to braid. Braid sinks, after the 2nd or 3rd trip. You just have to know how to use it. If you're bird nesting it wind or not, then you're not using it right. Just my 2 pennies.
Leader isn’t a huge deal, I tried mono and fluro for the leader and hookups stayed the same. I’ve snapped more fluro leaders on hook sets than I have mono. 8-10” of leader there’s almost no difference in the 2, I’m more comfortable with mono leaders on my rx7s
