I had to check out several video's before I found this one. I was looking for a real old-timey, American, no tool braided rug tutorial. I am now excited to start one of my own. Thanks a bunch!

Excellent ! I looked at a few other "how-to" videos, but they went on and on. Your video was very informational, showed all the specific steps clearly without dragging on for 5 different videos. I have been crocheting rag rugs, which is great, but they do tend to be a bit bumpy because of the crochet knots. I think the braided rug will be much smoother!

Thank you for making this tutorial! I was looking for a way to make a rug without needing a loom or making a long braid and having to sew it together. This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much!

I love this method. It is sort of a macrame combined with braid.. I like that it is finished when you reach the end. Tho I think I would weave ends back into the body of the rug a bit before sewing and snipping. I think they would be less likely to come undone. My biggest nemesis in rug making has been keeping ends and joined strips secure when washing a rug.

Hi Miss Beverly, my compliments on explaining the process. I make rugs out of polyester neck ties. I braid a really long snake and then sew it together. I use upholstery thread for this. Yes it is time consuming but when it's 100 degrees out you gotta have something to do. To clean it I take it outside, spray some cleaner on and hose it down for a rinse. Thanks for your tutorial. I'll try it next time

Thank you for sharing how to join a braid. I needed the visuals. I may try this sooner than later. 5 strands wow, I had to reach 70 something before understanding kicked in. I've done other types of stitches but came shy of actually getting anything done with a braid, other than sewing it to itself. That soon became tiresome. Your teaching is something that I am able follow. Thank you again for bring back the braided rug.💖🥰💖💖💖💖

I have done repairs to several braided rugs that my grandmother had made 50 or more years ago. Hers are made of wool or something similar and her method was to fold the fabric strips (three strips) during the braiding, and “sew” the braids together with twine. I now have about twenty years worth of old blue jeans that I am thinking of making into a rug. Any advice on that method

You look like you've made a few, had a lot of practice!!! Thank you for the tutorial

@beverlymartin7688
@beverlymartin7688 3 года назад
Hi Tammie, I like t-shirt fabric best! You can also use flannel, fleece etc. As far as size yes you can keep going around which will get as much wider as longer or make a longer center to begin with & you'll get a longer more narrow rug. Does that make sense?
@beverlymartin7688
@beverlymartin7688 3 года назад
And the same if you make a shorter center you will have a more shorter wider rug a little more round than oval

Thank you! And absolutely...you just go back around right away in the beginning instead of a middle strip. Does that make sense?

I love this way better than using a Q crochet hook. I bet its easier on the hands to braid. Have you tried braiding a box or basket with this method?

I've done a basket once but rugging is still my favorite!

Not really a comment but questions 1. My Grandmother used what she called braiders small metal cone shapes that she fed her material through and it folded the strips so the raw edges were inside the fold, there were different sizes depending on the fabric that she was braiding would this be okay to use? 2. She also sewed something to the back so they didn't slide when walked on.
@beverlymartin7688
@beverlymartin7688 8 месяцев назад
I've never heard of the metal cones but sounds like a great idea! I'd give it a try! Mine have never slid around for me...I guess I make them too thick & heavy for that!

Beautiful and well explained.can I use 10 stripes to make a wider braided stripe instead of 5.
@beverlymartin7688
@beverlymartin7688 3 года назад
I'd try it...it should work the same, although you may want an odd number to make the weaving more uniform.

Can it be made in rectangular shape, just like a blanket or a carpet? I liked the video very much. Thanks for sharing it.
@beverlymartin7688
@beverlymartin7688 3 года назад
Yes. I want to do another video on that. There are several ways to do that. You could make it like the oval but mark your corners & instead of double looping on the ends double loop only where you want the corners

Thanks for this. i have a large stack of my kids t-shirts that I've been looking for a good way to utilize them into a rug. This looks like it would work well for those. Any way to estimate how many yards of fabric you used for that 2 x 4 rug?
@beverlymartin7688
@beverlymartin7688 Месяц назад
@diet94 I've never measured but im going to make a guess it'll take 12-15 t-shirts depending on size of the shirts

Thank you for naking it look so easy. What other fabrics are good as well other than thirst. Jersey pants?. How do you cut all your fabrics. I'm gonna try jean.
@beverlymartin7688
@beverlymartin7688 Год назад
Any fabric works but knit fabric is easy to work with because of the stretch. I cut into 2 - 4 inch strips. Thinner strips gives a thinner rug, thicker strips gives a cushy thick rug- my fav
