I love your commitment to recycling. We try this as well. I make quilted pet beds out of old blankets and sweatshirts filled with scraps of fabric and the blankets. Almost-new socks in pairs, however, go to our local homeless and domestic violence shelters. They are always in need of underwear, shoes, and socks. If you have any of those organizations in your locale, they may appreciate such things. We have more single socks than I would care to admit, and your awesome idea is going into affect here soon. 💛

I don’t think I could make pairs of intact socks into a rug, but I now have a use for my bag of single socks that I have hoped in vain of finding the mate for! Thank you for your inventive tutorial!

Rug is sweet! Just a thought when you were initially cutting up the socks, the rings would make super hair ties!

Wow!! Thank you for this video!! Just an idea…If your hands are still getting sore while pulling the socks up, perhaps your crochet hook might help that process go a bit easier and save your hands in the process.

I absolutely love this idea, I have huge bag of miss match socks and will not throw away fabric or clothes because I love to upcycle, this is definitely going to be a good project especially for a bathroom rug for after showering! Thank you for sharing!!💗

It struck me as cute that you had bare feet after cutting up your socks! Great project If I can pry my husbands old socks away from him Ill try this out. I rarely wear socks because I live in a warm climate and hate hot feet! 😁

Your instructions are the best I've heard yet. Tysm. I've wanted to make a rag rug but never seen clear instructions till now. Have not ever tried crocheting but am determined to make a rug. Thanks to you I think I can attempt one !

Thats got to be the thickest home-made rug i ever seen! Its way way cool too!! But like you i dont think my hands could handle it. I would convert that to crochet. I have done rugs with old sheets. Took me 4 months for the first one. (I was learning on that one, 😆), an oval, a circle, a flower, n a fox n started a field of flowers before i got distracted with doll clothes. I may not be able to crochet barbie clothes but i can for bigger dolls. Now im so addicted i acquired 20 patterns, some i will have to upsize to fit the mylife doll. I have two hoop skirts, two pantaloones, two hats, n almost two dresses done. I almost have mastered micro crochet flowers but yea skip the .1 mm hook. I got down to 1.75 mm/1.5mm. So mabe i can do barbie clothes now,🤔 😆. Will be keeping old socks now thanks to you! 🥰

@@jodyjournals6394 , here's a piece of advice if you try crochet. Start out with big hook n matching yarn, sheet strips (size 10 hook or bigger, depends on how loose or tight as you crochet). You can actually use your socks too, cut up n joined with a cut slit at the end to join the next. Stretchy is your friend, sheets not so much as a bigger hook is needed. And get ergonomic hook too. Especially if your arthritic in the hands. I look forward to more of your videos to pop up! 😁🥰❣

I make my Necktie rugs this way. A big long snake and then I sew the rows together. Upholstery thread is what I use. Polyester ties are in the DUMP FOREVER. Use them up. Great video!! ✌🏻♥️

What does making a necktie rug involve and what does it look like?❤
@diannenaworensky6698
@diannenaworensky6698 9 месяцев назад
@@lindacress1624 It involves mostly lots of time. I have a color scheme. I usually take out that wool stabilizer piece. Blue examples would be 3 blue ties braided together, then 3 more, then 3 more so on and so on. Mine are small ovals (about 36inches long)so after getting my LONG snake I start sewing them around in my shape. When it gets to the size I want I just stop. My husband has been using his for about 15 years. It sits in front of his chair so he uses it every day. When it gets dirty I take it outside and hang it on the fence spray it with windex and hose it off to rinse. I leave it on the fence to dry. It looks like any other braided rug but it lasts forever. Hope you have the time to try this. Keep my name and you can ask me questions if you need to. GOOD LUCK ✌🏻♥️

I just love all the fun colors, and this is DEFINITELY a good use of worn, or socks w/o their partner! Would be fun to give as gifts for baby room, bathroom or beside the bed. I also enjoyed your music, and fact that the talking was at minimum (although I found your voice soothing). Great job, one I hope to try!!😂❤

My mom made a rug like this when I was a kid, we all helped cut socks and tie them onto the rope. I've been keeping my wife and 3 kids old socks for years. I have the rope done. I've never sewed anything before, nervous about this next part, this is really helpful.

Very pretty colors all blending together, what fun. I like the idea of adding onto the the rug each year, it could be quite a group effort if friends and family made some of the braids from their old socks and then you added those braids onto your rug, or even if they just donated their extra sock to you. Cheers from my homestead in northwest Florida.

I'm glad you hand stitched the chains at the end instead of using a sewing machine. Not everyone has a sewing machine or knows how to use one. 🙂 Just out of curiosity, do you happen to know how many socks you cut up? I believe I will need at least twice as many because I need to make a large rug for my living room.

lol I have pairs of leggings, Capri pants, snug & loose sweat type, & stretchy leg jeans galore because lol I learned in dance class that any pants with some give basically if you cut the crotch out( especially a diamond shaped one in sweats, jammies, tights etc.)& pull the hole on with arms & head going in through the waist?... crop top dangly or ruched sleeves or shorten or fold the legs maybe after opening the ankle seam... a Barbie couldn't, but we can!

If you use a waxed quilting thread or buttonhole twist it would likely last longer and may be easier to sew with. Really like your rug. Should have saved old socks

@cheryldenkins1597
@cheryldenkins1597 Год назад
@@jodyjournals6394 it sounds like you will one of these days. Try using a K or larger to pick up that loop. Farther into the alphabet the larger the hook. A tapestry sewing needle for sewing the strip. It is longer with a blunt tip. And maybe crochet cotton instead of thread. Don't use embroidery floss. I tacked a quilt with floss before. It doesn't hold up to repeated washing. Love your idea with the socks.

@@cheryldenkins1597I love your ideas! This may sound like a really dumb question, but just out of curiosity, would fishing line work for a rug like this? It's somewhat invisible, so that's why I ask. Have you ever used fishing line to sew with?

Why would you cut up usable socks? If you use your socks wisely, you wont have so many to cut to make a rag. And old socks you want to throw away dont add so much either?
