#21: get a consultation and do a non-relaxer service with a new stylist. Truly get a feel for the stylist to see if you trust them to put relaxer on you #22: learn your new growth's growth rate and density. Some people can stretch for 9 months and some can stretch for only 9 weeks. Everyone's hair is different! #23: cater your hair needs/regimen to your scalp/skin needs too. I have dry skin and dermatitis on the scalp. This means I have to alter my products used on wash day
So much this, I'm about to re-relax (or do thermal reconditioning which is healthier but expensive and requires 3-4 months min between treatments)... what I failed when relaxed was either doing it too soon (4 weeks) or too late (12 weeks). I'm def a 8 week stretch before relaxed breaks off my natural texture, idk why. My mother can stretch for like a year and fine, my hair is really like... no beetch, all same texture or nothing. To be fair my natural hair breaks easier than relaxed and for the love of chips and potatoes I can never figure out why
I've tried everything under the sun to grow my relaxed hair AND finally figured out what works for me. Leaving my hair alone is my "trick"... meaning lightly (no heavy hands allowed) moisturize and seal 2-3 times a week, wash every 2-3wks alternating between moisture and protein DC, wearing a bun and down (with a shirt that doesn't snag while walking around the house...I know...but it works for me) through out the week and relaxing every 4-5 months. That's it, nothing else. I don't like braids/weaves... can't stand any extra weight on my head. My hair is now mid-back length and healthy🤗
I feel you especially on the moisturizing part. I can't even imagine moisturizing my hair everyday. 2 to 3 times a week at most (on the week closer to wash day though).
I once made the mistake of getting a relaxer before and after a sew in😬, but my 'stylist' at the time said it was ok to do so. When I had it taken out and relaxed the same day, I noticed that a lot of my hair(mainly in the back) had broke off! It was noticeably shorter, thinner, and flat😣. Never again. Also, be careful of WHO you let handle your hair! Some of these hairstylists are low key shady💯💯💯.
Yes I agree relaxers have come a long way; my scalp would be so tight and hair stiff. I started getting relaxers in the 70's, my 1st relaxer was by Revlon. The Affirm relaxers are the best for me, my scalp is moisturized and my hair is soft. The relaxers today have shea butter and other conditioners in them.
21. Relaxed hair doesn’t need you to be heavy handed with hair products. I was natural for 5 years and literally used to apply hair products fist full lol 😆 I tried that with my relaxed hair now and it turns out limp and stiff, still learning and your channel has been a great source of info 💕
It depends. I'm natural and I use only a little bit of products. If I use a lot it will just sit on my scalp and flake up. I use water and dime size of leave in. Other than shampoo and conditioner.
@@twolala1 Hey. I do my usual wash day, then I put my Marc Anthony leave in and on top I add a Moisturizer like the ORS Olive oil the green one then I part and twist. One can part, assure no tangles, add leave in and the moisturizer then two strand twists and to assure it stays secure add a perm rod or like me a flexi rod at the ends and let air dry using a head wrap over it for one or 2 nights which isn't kosher at all. You can Instead use the head dryer until dry. Mines lasted 4 weeks by only oiling scalp after a week and not playing in it! I place in a loose pineapple at times and to make it bigger after a week I would separate a few each week! Has worked so far 1st time 4 weeks it lasted! Yesterday I did my hair plus dyed my hair day plus retwisted!
@@JR-cr9bw Hi. I do feel that it is cause of the humidity which will make on sweat and may cause one's hair need to be constantly washed and flat ironed to maintain being straight which is why I just texturize. It all depends on one's preference.
I stopped relaxing a long time ago but I remember once washing my hair the night before getting one because my scalp was so flaky and itchy . Big mistake. I burned a lot. But then no way I could go two weeks let alone a month without washing my hair. That’s one reason I prefer natural because for me it’s easier to wash more frequently. I like to do it twice a week. My cousin used to get relaxers once a year for awhile like you guys do but then she decided to just be straight natural like our grandmother and a lot of other women in our family were.
I wash at the salon every two weeks alternating between moisture and protein, deep conditioning each time switching between hooded and steamer each time. I moisturize and seal once a week if needed but usually only when I wash. I relax at the salon every 6 months, apply Olaplex , a hard protein and a trim. I take all of my own products, she provides the water and heat only! My hair is either wrapped or in a ponytail at home I have not worn braids in over two decades but have done a few plaits here and there if trying to moisturize between shampoos. I do not do protective styles. I never blow dry or flat iron, always roller set and hood dry.
Yessss rollers are KEY!!!!!!! Heat really does do a number on my hair, I can't even handle blow-dryers, even with a heat protectant. My hair does great relaxing every 6-8 weeks, but 8 is my sweet spot ❤️
I don't trust anyone in my area with a relaxer on my head or my girls.💆🏿♀️ I see so many great RU-vid hair dresser I wish was in my area. I definitely enjoyed this video.
is good to know which relaxer works good for you, i am a relaxed lady i tried keeping natural hair but it does not work for me since it need more time to just do everything
I'm watching this video because i'm a lost soul. I just took out some small kmotless box braids. I'm waiting to relax my hairline because i'm getting micro braids today. 😬
Great video ladies.. I don't braid my relax hair anymore..I use to put them in two French braids..for the week wash then braid it back up.. Now to me I feel relaxed hair shouldn't be braided or twisted up in my Opinion..otherwise why relax it.. Thank you much 😊 God Bless you ❣ 🙏🏽 😘
@@user-ip5fm3ck4p Relaxed hair shouldn't be braided twisted or pulled up tooooooo tight..it's relaxed..why relax it if you're going to put it through this?? That's why..people shouldn't watch too much RU-vid..and doing trends that's NOT safe or good for their hair..😊❤
Yea the braiding tight doesn't work with relaxed hair, I actually braid my own and make sure it's very loose on my hairline but still able to hold the style. But sadly, there are braiders that don't recognize this and the protective style ends up being counter productive in protecting.
Hi thanks for your video, i just went bck to relaxers in april bcause of breakage and thinning hairline. I cut my hair short bcause of yrs of crochets but now i want my crochets bck. Is it ok to apply braids bck to my short hair or should i wear clips ins instead.thanks
When I am going to braid after 3 month have the braid then I wait a month before relaxer closer to women month I I rexler my hair I do lot a deep treatment Before I put in my braid I us aphgee 2 step treatment
What do you use in your hair right at your salon/at home relaxer that it's not weighed down? I had this problem when I used to relax, I only wanted a heat protectant & serum to keep it lightweight but they said they need to put in an oil moisturiser 🤷🏽♀️🙄
So during wash day ( whether its a regular wash day or relaxer day), there's always some form of deep conditioning or hair mask that sets the stage for my hair to carry on moisture and shine even days/weeks after that particular wash day. Also our hairdresser will usually cocktail a serum or leave in cream before the blow dry and flat iron while our hair is damp so that it holds on to the product better and won't be weighed down when dry. After the flat iron, she'll go over it with a serum to smoothe down any fly-aways, but I never use a cream moisturizer or cream anything on my hair after the flat iron--when it's done.
Same with me I got knot less braids after being 6 wks post virgin relaxer n my hair loves it n growing like crazy n it's only been 1 week today of my braids team knot less braids right here
This doesn't work for 4c hair if you wait that long you would definitely cause your hair to break off. 2 months or 8 week should be the longest stretch if you have 4c hair.
