I think the best part of Brain Dump for me is how Max is able to pull off the banter between him and Goofball. It feels so natural, and it’s honestly impressive. Genuinely some of the best content on RU-vid.
I'd be willing to bet that the reason the conversations between himself and Goofball are so convincing is because he's actually had a lot of those conversations with himself in his own mind, you know... give or take some details but the basic idea that's being conveyed on screen is in tact. But yeah, That's one of many things I also appreciate about his show.
I am kinda tired of goofball's entire point being that he derails conversations and in general wastes time before they can remotely to the point. I know he addresses this but like, why bother if you're going to keep it that way?
Yeah but why is he wasting his talent on whining and self-pity like a pathetic loser? Why are people loving it when he does it, but complain when I friggin do it RIGHT now?
I like how Max is able to get the theme of his video across without being on the nose, rather using storytelling. It's what's sorely missing in modern mainstream media today.
Could you tell me what's the theme? Or is it that bland it comes across ass based nonetheless? The theme of his latest video being corporations forcing him to make "woke" content while ironizing the (very real) rise of fascism is like the lamest most disjointed from reality theme ever, I rather get on-the-nose "racism is bad" media (like Zootopia, in his eyes)
@@Chirashin the topic is exactly that, the idea of controlling media to fit a bill is fascist rethoric, regardlesd of the political inclination of the contents discussed. And well, idk how real you think it is, but considering that brain dump mostly covers topic relevant to internet based interactions, is easy to see where the idea for the video came from, as most bantering against "innapropiate media" comes from internet circles, rather than real life spaces.
what fucking shows and movies are you watching where you think thematic storytelling is dead or do you literally just watch blockbusters and shitty youtube videos
I love how it has transitioned more and more into not just an examination of the human condition, but also one that is very open-ended and open to interpretation. I don’t think Brain Dump would be half as successful if it didn’t let viewers come to their own conclusions to the events presented
What I like about the show is sometimes he'll be so off topic, you'll wonder "how is this about the movie in the title." Then you realize "holy crap. the way this episode plays out is a metaphor for what is wrong with the movie." It's 5D chess writing.
It's misleading, my dumbass kept thinking he was going to review media; every. single. time It took me until his fascism vid to realize it's a self contained show and not actual reviews of media or in-depth discussion.
Man, watching this video is sure making me hungry for Grandma Brownie's Chocholate Chunker Wunker Bunkers, now with even bigger chunks of chocolate chunks.
@@COCO-tm3gp Did you just say, "Did you just say Grandma Brownie's Chocolate Chunker Wunker Bunkers, now with even bigger chunks of chocolate chunks?"?
@@COCO-tm3gp I sure did COCO, and don’t forget about all the new fantastic marshmallow shapes in every box: green emeralds, turquoise crowns, red rubies, brown Iranians, blue diamonds
I'm still upset RU-vid ruined animation all those years back. It was a golden age and they completely ruined it. I love Max, he's a beacon of old world animations. It's wonderful
For animation it was and I understand that it can be the golden age of well animation but I kinda disagree and the year wasn't golden age but yeah max is awesome in my opinion
No matter how crass or offensive some of Max's material becomes; it always feels like it's just trying to say something without hammering it in. The best kinds of art present themselves for you to view and determine without forcing you to see it a specific way.
@@MekuChanAnime The difference is, Matt and Trey don’t actually agree with the satire. South park has been around for like two decades and often changes/backtracks on how it presents itself right? Especially with satire. South park also gets backlash too lol
I've watched Max since Wacky Game Jokes 4 Kids, so even before his MLP series really made his channel take off. He's always been one of YT's most talented artists, and I admire how he's continued to strive to be better despite all his insecurities. Brain Dump is one of the funniest and insightful running series on RU-vid, and it deserves more credit, I think.
brain dump reminds me a ton of moral orel. like they both start off with offbeat and meta humor and then completely switch into depressive and dark humor and drama while still having some comedic elements after so many episodes. Love both so much! Great video btw!
Brain Dump has got to be one of my favorite series on youtube. Very unique stylistically and in the writing, and never dissapoints. Glad you see you talking about it!
The newer episodes definitely speak to me as someone longing to have comics and animations be my profession- especially Max lamenting how all the hard work and creative pursuits was just for nothing, and he has isolated himself. That’s like, one of my biggest fears-
hottdiggetydemon is one of the very few good animators on RU-vid, the uniqueness of his cartoony art style makes it feel like you could be watching a cartoon on adult swim not to mention his brain dump series, the energy that max (himself) and his character goofball display in the series is just so great, he needs a lot more attention
I'm so glad that someone is finally talking about Brain Dump- I've loved this series for the longest time, and was so worried that it wouldn't get the recognition it deserves
at some point i was completely endulged into binge watching brain dump that it became one of my guilty pleasures to watch lmao, max is extremely talented and the effort he puts in his videos are so overlooked, and he managed to convince me to pick up 3D modelling again
more of a casual viewer of his so i hadnt seen his actual face till just now.. bro is IDENTICAL to the character lol i think what's the most fascinating about this show, to me, is how you can watch character-max grow and change in the same way real-max's content reflects; his later things are less about shock value and offensive humor, more about wit, goofiness, and analysis (at least that's the way i interpret it) and character-max has had the same kind of pipeline. in-universe, it's a story about a cynical media analyst learning how to see the world in a more productive or enjoyable light; in meta, it almost feels like present-day max talking to his past self and helping past max to grow as a person there's just so many ways you can interpret the underlying story, and even if that isn't your cup of tea, the animation and voice-acting are RIDICULOUSLY impressive
Max has been flying on and below my radar for a few years now. I first saw his work in 2012 and I have to say, I thought his work was awesome. I watched a few Brain Dump episodes, I think my friend showed me some where Max lost everything due to his ego. I still think his work is awesome.
Part of this video sounded like someone talking to people with insomnia and telling them they just have to go to sleep. Like, THANKS, I was I knew that all I had to do to cure my depression was to stop being depressed. Wish I thought of that.
BrainDump is the best series I've ever stumbled upon, deciding to ignore the person's past and the curiosity to understand why his videos kept appearing in my recommendations, and then watching the whole series and following Max on social media to learn that he has changed (while not a lot, it's looking like it's going in a good direction and I'm happy every time I see something) from when I last made an image of his identity and views, man it was so worth it.
I've always said brain dumb is without exaggeration the best animated thing on RU-vid. And I don't mean literally. The characters, the 4-wall but not overtly in-your-face commentary, the "story" even! You can really feel brain dump isn't just another RU-vid animated project. I never would have thought the guy who made those parody animations when I was a kid would be so good at making his own original work, (not that it wasn't mold breaking enough I'll never forget it)
@@SirBlackReeds I don't know a lot about freedom but I do know a little about flash. Flash makes brilliant looking stuff, but nothing I've personally related too. That's where brain dump shines, the level of personality is astounding.
Max G is nothing but a creative genius and a master at writing especially when it comes to character interactions to development of a character and of corse animation. That’s all I’m gonna say
how the hell is max's facism episode almost one million times better written than every single internet animation ever and what it appears to be to the common eye, its undertones that you have made very clear had me in awe of this episode, guess max really is as smart as he thinks.
I’ve been following Max’s content on YT since the Pony mov. Era and honestly I’m VERY glad I’ve stuck along to this day, got to see how much his content kept not only improving but making it more interesting or “deep” (depending who you ask of course) but for sure it’s been a wild ride and I still plan to stay for it longer to see what Max has in the future.
What I like about the show is sometimes he'll be so off topic, you'll wonder "how is this about the movie in the title." Then you realize "holy crap. the way this episode plays out is a metaphor for what is wrong with the movie." It's 5D chess writing.
I didn't expect to see someone doing a video on brain dump, but I'm glad you did. I didn't keep up with every upload, but I always really enjoyed watching his stuff. I liked how different his style was compared to other animation RU-vidrs. I'm glad he's finally getting a shout-out for all the work he puts into his videos
Can people stop talking about how weird max looks irl? He specifically discussed about his appearance in the most harsh way possible, and he was being truthful about his appearance unlike other faceless RU-vidrs, so who are you guys to call him a weirdo or discord mod? It’s better to hear more positive things about max g yk…
Very introspective. I knew there were underlining themes but I didn’t know it went that deep. This is gonna create a whole new perspective for me when I watch
Brain Dump is my favourite channel and I'm glad to see it get some recognition via a review like this! I've seen so many people write off Max's work as "The guy who did MLP animations" so it's nice to see you expand into what his current work is like. He's a good guy too, at least he's always been nice to his fans from what I've witnessed and I can respect that, and he's seriously always pushing the bar on his own animation and work that every new episode is truly an experience to witness. I hope more people will watch him!
Holy ******* some parts in this video hit me so deep I feel like crying. I wasn't expecting it to be so relatable. I haven't seen him in a while but he sounds like a brilliant creator, always thought he was just an edgy reviewer
Another great detail about the grinch episode is that by showing us, and not just telling us, he shows the audience how to make a character truly a villain, as compared to that version of the grinch just being called a villain, but not being shown.
Huh. I thought it was supposed to mirror, or kinda mirror, the Grinch in the movie taking advantage of Max's loyalty and driving way everyone else with his horrible behavior just like Max did with Goofball and Burnbot.
I really like that you point out how Max, while dealing with a ton of stress and lack of motivation, still acts in a heavily flawed manner that doesn’t make him _too_ sympathetic. If we were expected to constantly feel sorry for him, the show wouldn’t become fun to watch anymore-it’d just be his pity party. Having him act out in a way that’s both comedic and realistic adds a lot to its depth and watchability. It’s why shows like Bojack Horseman are so iconic.
I remember seeing Twitter discourse about his apology episode, and that's how I found him, vaguely remembering his old content when I was younger. Other than the Apu episode, I dont watch for analysis, I watch to see a hybrid pf artist and persona slowly come to terms with himself.
I rewatch the entire series every time a new episode is released without even realizing. It’s that good. I also just realized my profile picture is goofball. Yeah.
I watched his content a long while ago back when racist Mario was new and after a few years of growing up, I found brain dump on my recommended. This guy doesn't even act the same as I thought he would. He's so good at making a worlds worth of characters with his voice and art talent alone and making that world feel lived in.
Damn I stumbled across a brain dump episode YEARS ago and didn't pick up on any of this lol. I think I used it as background noise for drawing like I usually do with media criticism videos and then didn't keep watching more because I forgot the name of the channel. It's so bizzarre to find out there's all this character development behind it.
The second I heard you say Hotdiggitydemon I got some war flashes to his .MOV series, which when I rewatched it as a teen rather than being 6 years old, was actually really well made.
Max is a very brilliant creator and animator and has done so many numerous work on RU-vid,and did an incredible job making himself as the character. I love he built himself and the side character and made it into a show.
this video is just showing how much i love brain dump and all of max's videos, the first three i ever saw of his was the FNAF video, the luigi one and finally my favorite the one about jack skellington giving a girl PTSD on Halloween. also i love his Brain Dump series
im not the biggest fan of how max (the artist, not the character) addresses his mistakes and shortcomings, but i appreciate that he still does acknowledge them. i appreciate that he has grown thru the years while still admitting his faults.
@@Kikiorwhatever when i made my comment here i thought for sure he had said something about the drawings at some point. just did a little research and couldn’t find anything. i think he has this mindset of “it’s just a drawing and we should be fighting REAL issues” which like, i get that perspective but it ignores the real damage that can be caused by spreading antisemitism, even if it’s a “joke”. damn, i’m disappointed.
so many people got mad at the facism episode, mostly twitter what a surprised, but after watching the video and seeing peoples reactions its quite clear they either didn't watch the video and only watched the ending, or the joke completly flew over peoples heads and they try to attack Max's character as opposed to what he said.
Dude's an actual racist/anti-semitic...the fact that he couldn't do even ONE criticism of actual fascism, but ironized people warning about the very real rise of fascism, thought he was witty with the "nobody knows what fascism is" THEN went on to drive the video in a direction of corporations forcing artists to push for anti-fascist or "woke" content (proof??? Also right wingers doing the opposite earn more)...and that being the reason he can keep his life afloat but not being able to do what he loves... like does he realize this is a criticism of capitalism? I guess he's sad because it isn't 2015 anymore and he can't keep drawing anti-semitic caricatures and Steven N-gaverse...
@@ChirashinMaybe not specifically fascism, but It's always been pretty clear how corporations try to be #relatable and #woke to distract people from the sins they commit themselves, this is the reason the whole "Rainbow Brand Icon For Pride Month" had become pretty infamous.
9:57 this is when it gets really interesting, because even if you didn't quite pick up on the fact this MaxG is a character, not necessarily the real person, this episode makes that ubandantly clear.
Vid was already entertaining and all, I'm just a total nut for the A Hat in Time OST and starting jamming out the moment I recognized that She Came From Outerspace was playing
I think that Brain Dump is a reboot of Max's other series Wacky Game Jokes for Kidz which also presented itself as a parody of game shows and then proceeded to become more and more about the protagonist and the sidekicks as the episodes went on. Sad that it seems like I'm the only one who remembers that series.
I remember watching this dude pre-adpocolypse and after, I was in elementary school at the time and even then these videos would make me laugh despite the entire message of the video floating over my head
sometimes i feel like a combination of the two. Most of the time i just try to live in the moment and have fun. sometimes i start to overthink things and stress out over them.
