There once were 3 genres of video game parody: 1. What if Mario swore? 2. What if Mario was violent? 3. What if Mario was on drugs?

I remember on a video called "Racist Mario but all the deaths are replaced by The Nutshack theme" and so many in the comments are saying how it's funnier than the actual animation. Even back in 2016 people were hating on the animation.

Actually, you need a really high IQ to understand Racist Mario. See, it's actually really clever to have other non-nintendo IPs apart of the race, it's what makes Mario "racist" in a sense, which is even more fitting due to them all racing in a round of Mario Kart. The scene with Peach's black eye is also a really good foreshadowing of how extreme Mario's character is in this web IP. We see Mario kill each non-nintendo racer, which all concludes when Mario gets the banzai bill item, where he says the n word, which shows that Mario isn't racist anymore, he's now RACIST. Kratos killing Mario is actually a symbolism on how being racist have not only effected the people around you, but also yourself, as Mario turns into a giant monster. Kratos didn't just kill Mario, he killed Racism, which is why Peach and Daisy go naked for him.

I'd put Racist Mario under the category of 'Things you thought was the peak of creation as a kid and find to be obnoxious as almost anything older'.

I wish you could have expanded more on comparing Flashgitz with their edgy contemporaries, like OneyNG, and explained why their animation and writing works while this didn't. Otherwise, good video.

Racist Mario has 158 million views currently in 2023. Let that sink in. I remember watching Racist Mario when I was 7 years old back in 2014 and I completely forgot about it until a few months ago when I remembered it. Honestly is a shame that it is considered nostalgia and a RU-vid classic. It is one of the most generic, bland and soulless video game parodies out there and it is sad other video game parodies like “Luigi’s Day Out”, “Smash Kingdom Mayhem” and the Sonic Shorts series by Sonic Paradox are overshadowed and aren’t as fondly remembered. I think the reason Racist Mario blew up and became popular is because it was the peak of offensive, edgy and crude humor on the internet and the fact the video didn’t get taken down or removed from RU-vid. Especially since video game parodies slowly died after Racist Mario came out, The video just boils down to shock value.

Racist Mario would’ve been funnier if the title was a lie and in fact was the opposite. Also I wish that Luigi’s Day Out by Hotdiggetydemon overshadowed it.

I am quite grateful that I've never had a friend say to me "have you seen 'Racist Mario'? It's really funny!".

This comment section is about to be heavily divided. But as it stands I really do see Flashgitz as hit or miss. But hey, can’t really hate their grind as the hit you with an animation and then hit you harder with the raid ad.

Ever since I saw it and others reacting to it, I started to feel like I was getting old and too sensitive to laugh at dark humor, getting more shocked and offended than entertained and then I realized there was such a thing as Poorly Executed Dark Humor

basically these people are like the, or at least one of, the Illuminations of edgy internet animated parodies and racist mario is their own Minions movie.

Racist Mario, just like Dorkly, is a boring cartoon in retrospective. Sure, I probably thought it was funny back then, but Racist Mario just seems like your run of the mill "What if Mario/Nintendo wasn't for kids" video: He's a Nintendo nationalist, he's racist, he's sexually abusive, he hates his brother, he's a mass murderer etc. TL: DR Racist Mario is a cartoon where Mario is racist. That's the joke.

So. Bad Mario parody checklist. Excessive profanity for no reason? Check. Easy low hanging “jokes?” Check. Violence and nudity? Check. Mario being psychotic? Check. Not understanding what makes a parody work? Check.

Flashgitz in general is impressively lame and unfunny. Their entire style of humor is just edginess for the sake of being edgy. It’s not even offensive, it’s just embarrassingly juvenile. I’m not saying that edgy humor is inherently bad, but you have to be creative with it. Even back in 2014, there was nothing remotely novel about Mario being portrayed as a foul mouthed psychopath. It’s about as played out as the jokes about Mickey Mouse being evil.

Flashgitz's humor reminds me of the second half of Yathzee's old video about webcomics. All you need to get laughs from gaming humor is to add very superficial memes of the games or characters with a hint of edgelord violence and you are golden. Since Flashgitz artstyle looks "polished" despite being poorly animated, that allows them to stand out from all other mediocre video game parody animation. They are the definition of a polished turd.

The entire genre created from it was just reactionary edginess that somehow was made to be commercialized. Hell, the same tone of current year internet ""political commentary"" is the bread and butter of Flashgits comedy.

Yooo, that quote around the 5 minute mark hits different, it succinctly explains something I had a hard time putting into words, why movies like Who killed Captain Alex, even if lacking in technical craftsmanship and equipment, exude such an infectious aura of passion for the medium and the filmmaking process. Here two ways to make a game parody 1. Make every character a jerk or an idiot or both 2. Make sure you use the most use joke's That is it.

Watching a comedic work in which you can predict very joke is the most trance-inducing thing. It's like it allows you to role-play as a person who can see into the future. Like Joseph Joestar's "Your next line is," from Part 2.

Honestly as someone who did somewhat enjoy the animation when it was fresh, (to the point that I remember the old thumbnail without the hijab), I understood and resonated with this video a lot. Honestly it kinda explains for me why I've lost interest in most of these types of animation. I think what some people aren't understanding about the whole point about something being "too professional", is it's not about being skillful being bad somehow, but the byproduct of things being made with bigger budget, team, resources, (and in the worst cases, having to change to appease a committee that doesn't actually work on the thing and is only thinking about how to make more money out of it). The byproduct is making something feel sterile and lacking personality. And its kind of an anomaly that the duo thats flashgitz somehow reproduced that feeling. And the George Calin bit wasn't just to compare two very different things, but to show how even the tiniest of things like "Have a nice day" that is recognized by everyone can be used for humor without only being gore + violence = funny. And that bit wasn't even like something advanced or high brow, just relatable but normally not thought about much by most people

Honestly it helps just to take everything FlashGitz makes at face value, comparing it to other stuff of the same era will always inevitably make it look shit. But for what it did and still does it's vaguely funny shock-jockeying.

Honestly channels like Flashgitz and Meancanyon where the only punchline in every video is "thing for kids but edgy and offensive" needs to die out. It isn't funny.

Even the thumbnail really bothered me. It looked so trite, ugly, and uninspired that I never found myself clicking on it depsite the RU-vid algorithm begging me to watch it after every video.

I feel like you should have come up with more examples of video game parodies with charming amateurish qualities than the awesome series. Not saying they aren't a good example, but using the same one three times unironically had me waiting for a reference to the "it's egoraptor style" era of internet animations. I agree with all your points otherwise, that one area of the video just felt out of place and weak compared to the rest.

At first I wanted to disagree with you, but remembering their work on regular marine, and how the personality they had in the early years isnt there anymore changed my mind

I feel as if everything I have watched and enjoyed in the past 6 to 7 years is all wasted because I have to notice that everything I liked was made for shock laughs. Like nothing I enjoyed had any real meaning. I have wasted most if not all my childhood here or playing games I don't like, and the more I think and think the more I want to not think and just fucking enjoy something. I'm 16, and everyone that I liked on this platform has either been awful people pushing awful thoughts or pedos and I hate that this shit became so popular that shock is the norm. Now everything is meta or ironic and all I want is to turn of the internet and live as a monk or something. I hate that preteens and teens like trash humor like I did and the only thing I can do to fix that is to forget, but 3 years of garbage thinking and trash youtube content make me want to fix myself and I don't know how, I subconsciously want to think being left or being close to that will fix me but it won't and it's making me worse and I hope to God that someone out there on the worst and best website ever had the same experience so I can cry with them. I definitely wouldn’t say this is the worst web animation, the internet is vast. This video was made when their form of comedy was still more common which is why it’s been commonly received. I mean cmon now the Red Ape Family exists, how can you possibly say this is the worst?

I respect your opinion. But I don't think you explained that well why you hate it. Animation to me is no big deal because it's about what you do with it. And making people laugh is not as complicated as you say it is. You also got sidetracked and could have summed up your points better.

While there are some problems with racist Mario. I still think they are great animators especially with their furry crusader series

Excellent video definitely open my eyes to a few things. In my opinion Racist Mario isn't the worst animation but it's certainly nothing to write home about. It's edgy humor that at pokes fun at people who obsess over differences even if done poorly.

As someone who was an adamant Flashgitz fan, I agree with everything in this video. I think racist Mario really is everything you can get from any of their videos, low brow humor that doesn't say anything, generic animation, and over just mean spiritedness. Their style hasn't changed for over 7 years and that's not something to be proud of

racist mario is the kind of thing i don't want to see end. not because i enjoy it, but because i really don't want to see how it decides it's gonna end itself. gross out humor has never exactly been my cup of tea because it's a kind of humor that requires far more effort to make it clever, whereas you could just not do gross out humor and go with jokes that are not only easier to string together and make memorable, but it'd also be actually funny. comedy is the most subjective thing in the human race, but i can comfortably say that nobody i'd consider a likeable individual wants to see ash ketchum strip his clothes with a face like an ashtray.

The "intimacy of amateurism" really hits the nail on the head and is what I think makes for instance salad fingers so good. I watched it for the first time ever this year and it absolutely mesmerized me bc I feel like I genuinely never saw anything like it and one of the most alluring aspects of it to me was how serene, I think I would call it, the experience felt, exactly bc of that intimacy you speak of. It's an aspect that more flash animations have that salad fingers exploited to its full potential bc of its particular tone and general priorities. The contrast really stands out when you compare the early episodes to the last I think two that came out that are full blown productions that, while quite good looking and at times impressive pieces of animation, simply lack entirely the charm that made the original 10 (in my opinion) first episodes great. There's no more of that good feeling of cozy solitude of knowing it could be/probably was made by a guy in his room in his parents house in a shitty computer or something. You just can't help watching the later ones with the unpleasant feeling of a team behind it specifically engineering it to make it as #iconic as possible.

I think the funny thing about the video was only how crappy and stereotypical it was made. Therefore I somehow enjoyed it.
