Yeah that used to be a big motivating factor behind why I used to constantly seek justification for my own silly religious beliefs when I was a Christian. Took me awhile after deconverting to realize there may be absolutely nothing after physical death and consciousness may not continue as we don’t really have major reasons to think it will. I still don’t take a firm stance either way on it BUT I will say I am way more at peace w not knowing than I was at the start. The only reason I don’t rule out the possibility or take a firm stance on after death stuff is because if there’s one thing that has been consistent in my experience, it’s that truth is often stranger than fiction and there have been far too many times where I was 100% on something only to find out I was wrong so I’ve learned that we really don’t “know” anything 100%. I’m not saying that’s a good reason to believe it..I’m saying that’s my reason for not ruling it out or taking a gnostic stance on it like some atheists do and this isn’t because I’m “hoping” either- it’s strictly from past experience and being proven wrong w stuff I was certain on before so I just can’t take a gnostic position. I actually don’t believe there is anything after but that’s not same as saying “I believe there is nothing after death”The most arrogant thing to do is to say “X is impossible because our understanding of physics would make it so”.. Anyway, to your original comment- absolutely correct. Fear drives folks to make sh!t up. I think it’s dishonest to do that especially when you know why yer doing it.
@@bms77it is not silly, if you live among you family massacre from saddam hussein and tell ne he died and got away with 0 punishment not me not you or no one can accept to dont blame them for believe and stop be rude and be grateful you not live in that times
It's a dumb song because it's not Christians who tell people how to live their lives it's atheist. Every atheistic humanist government without exception has been communist and they force atheism on their citizens. They lock their citizens away in many cases, like in North Korea and don't allow them to have contact with the outside world.. Look at Christian civilization AKA modern Western Civilization places like America they infest our government institutions to force, people to acknowledge in speech their gender Faith which is a violation of our constitutional right to free speech and practice religion Stay out of government institutions it's not a place where atheists belong forcing their faith-based beliefs on other people.
Brilliant show! Amazing starting off with the incredible Shelley Segal and hearing some of her story. It’s been a while since she co-hosted on the show, so a treat having her perform. Jim Barrows and JMike are always a rare treat together. ❤
Shelley! Awesome and legendary song for the show. That song w your great voice etc immediately triggers a feeling in me mixed w some nostalgia and positive emotions.. that’s what good music is supposed to do- make people feel a certain way whether positive or negative. Anyway, my opinion is, this song is a cult classic already!! The other songs at the end were 🔥🔥 too!
Nick from Wisconsin…please allow the hosts to talk at least a little bit if you’d be so kind. I know it’s your show but it would be nice to let Jim and JMike say a full sentence once in awhile. Thaaaaaaankssss 🤗
12:40 Nick (he/him) want to talk about a previous discussion with Jmike 39:32 Mac (he/him) wants to talk about the Perennialism argument, but the call dropped. 43:33 Sura (he/him) Called to talk about some overarching force that leads humans to religion. 1:01:17 Oliver (he/him) "Atheists have faith". Claims that the "constant need for evidence" somehow proves a god 1:08:20 Angus (any/all) Wants to talk about how Jesus/God really did or didn't actually say "anything" --Superchats! 1:17:15 David (he/him) Wants to talk about holograms in your brain (this made my brain fall out of my head) 1:36:25 Then we have the amazing performance by Shelley Segal
Nick is more evidence of how theists avoid clarity. Good skeptics and scientists understand that maximizing clarity, is the best way to get consistent answers to life's queries. Theists strike me as people who fear knowledge that does not make them comfortable.
Beautiful song about looking like your mother. I think there are not enough songs pushing back on the lies and propaganda shoved at us every day. We need more people like you doing heart felt music that rings true.
Thank you very much Goodie! That’s what I love about music, it can help change the way we think or make you look at things in a different way. That’s what all my favorite artists did for me.
I work in a grocery store. In addition to the weekly ads, we have a monthly ad, which has more items in it. The multi page flyer we advertise the monthly sale with, we call "the big book".
Shelley Segal, i don't usually like music with lyrics, but there are some catchy/philo mind seeds in there that I have to give you credit for giving us lighting in a bottle. The recording they use for these shows could be better mixed, but it's impressive for us here in the Atheist community... thank you. Gr8! Peace ☮💜Love
I simultaneously went from six-to-nine (as it were) and vomited a little in my mouth. I wanted to excitedly shout, "HOLD MY BEER!" while also groaning in visceral discomfort...it was really confusing
"God went no contact with humans" because he was bored after he hardened Pharos' heart. He deliberately wrote a few different books contradicting themselves about himself and now he sits back and watches us fight over them.
Two great things happened today: I am able to watch my FAV ACA host JMike and I get to hear Shelley Sing her Iconic song!! Thank you so much for this community
Because he finished all he ever needed to do in Jesus Christ, and spread his Word of truth throughout the world. This, so that mankind might not be justified by the works that he does or the miracles he witnesses, but by believing in the truth and being set free by it. You would want to destroy that free promise by making salvation dependent on what you do, see, or understand. You want this so that that you can testify about yourselves and bring yourself towards gods and glory. You would want to find glory yourself so much that you reject that it is God himself who already glorifies us through what he has done.
@@titusgray4598 do we really need any more evidence than your blatant failure to reply on topic? On the other hand, I suppose I should thank you for agreeing by omission, silently acknowledging how, according to the Bible, the big “question of the week” is nothing more than uneducated, theology ignoring piece rhetoric intended to obnoxiously wonder over and over as nauseam why god doesn’t prove himself to you. Yes, “But you need to prove God first” is clearly being used as a ‘moving the goalpost’ defense mechanism here. Aside from this obvious dynamic existing over and over again when atheists are confronted, ‘Yes, I do have a logical proof that God exists’. But why would I share food with someone who will spit it at me? So, I say rationally, first prove to me that you’re able to listen, otherwise I’m preaching to the deaf. You’re off to a really bad start.
@@Bozo_Weirdohas failed to provide any convincing reason to believe in the existence of any god, gods or other divine or supernatural beings then deflected when asked directly. Two fails in one.
@@jayrose8638 “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you” follows from the more common advice to not feed the dog that bites. Your copy-paste trolling only proves my point! Thank you for your service to show what ‘the atheist experience’ is really all about! As it currently seems, your peer was completely shut down by my reply. Eat that! By the way, you have destroyed a relationship with me in the same way you have destroyed your relationship with God. I will no longer respond to you; this is goodbye.
Yeah. Frustrating stuff. What he’s saying is completely useless. It’s total word salad. Maybe he thinks if he’s as vague and obtuse as possible, it’s harder to refute his claims. The opposite is true. Almost everything he says can be discarded immediately because it’s dead weight.
I actually enjoyed Nick's call. He struggles, but he's not dismissive. He's not hard set in his ways, but he's trying to understand it, and you can hear that he is trying to understand new information versus what he already has in his mind. He's genuinely trying to learn to separate religious teaching and religion. Whether he stays a theist or goes through deconversion, he sounds like a genuinely good guy that just wants to learn.
Interesting. I got rude talking over from the first minute, followed by a lot of manipulation of the conversation including interruptions and evasions. He knows exactly what he’s doing, admitting he has done it before and taken notes- then gotten advice from those more experienced and wrote a script for this call. Rather than trying to understand anything, it seems he is trying to make ‘smart’ apologetics while posing as someone learning (so go easy on me). *that was the first 1-6 minutes…all similar to what he has done on previous calls.
Shelley's final segment was so so valuable. First of all, as potent as her lyrics are, her melodies and guitar work are great in themselves. I especially appreciate her incorporating the hebrew into her lyrics. Finally, she has given us some remarkable first-person insight to just how fking horrible some theology gets "Thank you God for not making me a woman." Holy ship!!! Literally! Wrapping with your theme "Saved" was brilliant. Thank you Shelley. Please do this again. This episode was exponentially value-added.
Yeah. I love when he complains about atheists actually being agnostic, like there’s a meaningful difference. Spinozas god is a joke. It’s a hypothetical to use the term.
The point Jmike was trying to draw out of him about faith and evidence was going to be his usual atheist/agnostic thing. He just cannot be told and insists on thinking that atheist/agnostic/theist are gradations on the same spectrum.
God ditched us for a younger, hotter universe. Really we're better off without him, but we're going to take him to court if he doesn't get caught up on the support payments soon.
When I called the Atheist Experience I assumed the hosts being fellow “atheists” would agree with my argument and validate it. The text as it stands has the main character saying nothing only supported by hearsay. That is a fact. I wish I would have donated 5$ in the superchats instead of donating 200$ as I did, and being ridiculed for being factual. Thanks for making me feel like shit guys!
2:04:00 I hope this doesn't sound shallow, but your singing here reminds me of when Lucy Lawless sang funeral songs as Xena. So beautiful and powerful. To EDM fans, she guests with a lot of producers, including house and trance music. I definitely recommend looking up "Activa & Shelley Segal - Fall In."
If Oliver isn’t a troll then holy cow he should be embarrassing. Calls in almost every week just to say the dumbest shit. Gets proper push back and it’s as if he doesn’t hear anything at all and just continues to harp on whatever point he thinks he has
Poor Nick. Vague, fluffy nonsense and maybe a nice feeling... No understanding of rationality or the nature of evidence but happy to believe anyway! Hey, I don't know anything about plumbing but I've got a feeling I'll probably be really good at it - anyone want to hire me?
1:21:38 “Dave”, the game I’m playing in my brain, with the universal holograms of sarcastic spirit mind stones, the word you’re making me thing of is far from “saintly” to summarise your dismal call.
1:01:34 Oliver, that opening of yours was a truly impressive gish gallop of bumblenuggetry of the highest order. How you managed to make that many nonsense claims in such a short space of time must take effort.
Angus did not expect a book to talk to him. Angus was pointing out that there is no religion where a it’s book is not written through the mind of a man. Angus is saying that the all powerful Jesus has no voice.

God went "no contact" with humans because they started building a tower tall enough to peek through his window and thought that was too creepy to deal with ever again
the one dude did have a point about christ. He never had a word he wrote down directly, or directly dictated to anyone. This is the point you guys could have corralled him to but I get the frustration. there's no theists with any valid reasons for their beliefs. Maybe time to go after the presups whom at least have some smarts to make their argument complicated enough where it's hard to find the logic flaw. Shelly has a nice voice! Nice to see the theme song creator.
On the call with Nick, I think the statement God is truth indicates a bias That will always put God on the side of Truth. It makes somebody foundationally have to pervert their sense of Truth to accept lies if there's a certain amount of guilt associated.
