Back to work on my 1985 Porsche 924 2.0 NA. I'm restoring my brake booster and master cylinder unit. As you can see from the video it was really tough to get that piston out... And looks like my rebuild kit was one of those universal ones so only two seals fitted. Tried cleaning the reservoir but it was still that ugly yellow color so I got a new one. Overall I'm really happy with the final result. Apart from that sticker... Will have to replace it with the better one someday.
Thank you for watching!

Only thing I would suggest would be to use epoxy paint since you are looking for stock black look. Much stronger and durable with no need to clear for proper finish.

Hi , brake Booster is just repainted , to restore that kind of device is a little bit hard
@RestorationApprentice
@RestorationApprentice 2 года назад
I don't think it's a servicable part... so if it works OK, just paint is all it needs.

@@RestorationApprentice how do you know it works ok, did you do a vacuum test on the unit to see how much vacuum it pulls down? The vacuum booster works in conjunction with the master cylinder to provide a vacuum powered braking system, so it’s function is very important to the braking system

Nice video and very nice series, I just found you, but I binge watched your videos! :) just one question, how big (in liters) is your ultrasonic cleaner? I wanted to buy one, but I cannot decide about the size (in a long term I'd like to restore cars, but now only for motorbikes)
@RestorationApprentice
@RestorationApprentice Год назад
Thank you for watching! It's a 4 litre one I think.

@@RestorationApprentice oh wow, thank you very much! I was hesitating between the 15 vs 30 liters, but then even a smaller one could do the job. Thank you again and keep up the good work! :)

What was the solution you added to the first ultrasonic bath featured around 5:05?
@RestorationApprentice

I'm not sure exactly... I got it with my cleaner as a package.

Are you going to get a firewall brace for the brake booster?
@RestorationApprentice

I don't know what that is.

Can I ask what are you using as the custom gasket for the brake booster? Looking at a similar project and that bit seemed helpful.
@RestorationApprentice
@RestorationApprentice Год назад
I'm not sure what it's called but it's special paper for making gaskets. it comes in various thicknesses.

@@RestorationApprentice I might be replacing the same one on a 928. What thickness did you use?

Wasn't the rod and clevis that attaches to the brake pedal assembly yellow zinc plated?
@RestorationApprentice

Couldn't get it appart to plate it so I just painted it.

It would be higly interesting to see how you managed to get the new rubber seals onto the pistons. You left that out ! You only showed all the easy jobs….that is not helpful at all regards Siegfried

Thank you for watching! I showed all the work I did. Watch from 18 minute mark. I only replaced two seals that fitted from the kit. This is not a how to video... I just video myself for all the work I do to the best of my ability.

Methodical and attention to detail in the cosmetic restoration of the appearance of these brake components, but not restoration of the function of the brake components, particularly the vacuum booster. The ATE and Girling vacuum boosters were not manufactured to be rebuilt such that the internal seals could be replaced, and after 30 years, I am sure the vacuum booster would not function like new. Master cylinder rebuilds are not as dependable as new components, since you cannot address the bores internal to the master cylinder after exposure to 30 years of dirty brake fluid. Given the criticality of the braking system to the safety of the vehicle, you are better off to replace with new components.
