Just picked up a m9A4 and did the LTT trigger in a bag and wilson combat short reset trigger and love it so far. I like what you did the the OG performance
Another great review! So based on your title did you think the Beretta 92x Performance Defensive is better than the Shadow 2! Thank you for the great video.
I think it really depends on what the shooter likes. I think the reset and trigger is better on the Beretta when you get it tuned right. It’s a little more difficult to work on and there are not as many after market parts as of now. Also the down side is you have to buy two guns and swap slides in order to get it to the same weight as a CZS2. I just shoot the Beretta platform very well.
Have checked if the firearm will fit in an IDPA measurement box? The specifications on Beretta's web site has the overall width at 1.8 inches which is over the legal width in IDPA.
any news yet on when you will be able to get a optic plate for it through Beretta? Thanks for the video. I'm trying to decide between a 92x RDO and a LTT RDO.
So I called and spoke to a Beretta rep yesterday. They simply told me they do not have the optics plates in yet and that they did not have any more information at this time (not happy about this!) . Both are great options I would say it depends on what you are using it for. I went with the factory RDO version because I wanted to shoot the 92x performance in competition. You can put a LTT cute slide on the 92x performance however both the "decocker" and the frame mounted safety will not function. Which makes it illegal for competition.
@@Steadfast_Collective I run a shadow 2 for USPSA. So I want a good DASA gun that's optic ready. I'm even considering buying a CZ p01 and sending it to Cajun to get milled.
@@jamesmanning8795 Shadow 2 is a great gun. I have a cajunized S2. I will say however the trigger ( when tuned correctly ) is a lot nicer on the Beretta. Cz just released their new CZ P10F competition ready gun. It is already milled for an optic from the factory. I checked one out at the CZ booth at nationals. Pretty sweet gun. cz-usa.com/product/cz-p-10-f-competition-ready/
There is only one screw for the production models that will help with over travel. The second screw that deals with pull length is going to be on the single action-only models
For what these guns cost it should come with the race hammer to begin with and an optics mounting system that isn’t so high. The Langdon elite is what beretta should be making to begin with
I 100% agree with you. The issue is Langdon cannot perform his style of optics cut on a gun that has a manual safety. He had to redesign many of the components for the decocker model and it just doesn't work or there is not a big enough market for him to do the same with the 92x performance model. You can put one of his RDO slides on a 92x performance, however neither the decocker on his slide or the manual safety will function. Which is against the rules in USPSA under some arbitrary random rule that says you cannot "remove" safeties on guns.
@@Steadfast_Collective yeah I’m saying beretta should have been able to figure that optics mounting system on their own. When they made the 92x performance they should have put optics mounting into the design from the beginning. Honestly I’d like to see them just kind of forget about the 92 series anyway. I love it just as much as the next guy but it is at this point obsolete and not worth making a bunch more iterations
@@kenstirling5348 Totally get ya. I feel like they found the easiest way they could put a dot on their existing platform without having to redesign anything.
100% agree. The competition between companies has been good. It's brought us a lot of good guns in recent years. Someone has won a national/world championship with every one of the big firearm manufacturers. Shoot what you like lol
I’m assuming the lighter weight of the defensive results in the sights returning to target quicker than the 92x performance. Is that the case and are there any significant differences when shooting?
So I thought that would be the case too. But with the right recoil spring, I don't notice a difference in how the sights track. The heavier slide on the new Carry Optics model reduces the felt recoil however
yep got lucky! Not a huge amount. The 92x performance defensive has some material cut from the frame and a bit from the slide. It also has a plastic guide rod as opposed to steel for the regular 92x performance
@@Steadfast_Collective For competition you can buy CZ Shadow2 or Tanfoglio. And you will see an improvement of your competition results. These Berettas are military. They can be used in competitions but why when there are pistols I mentioned?
@@morriszachrisson8359 Not sure what you mean by "these Beretta's are military?" A lot of competition guns are iterations from military weapons. Even the CZ Shadow 2, which comes from the CZ 75 ( a military/law enforcement pistol ). This model was made by Beretta solely with competition in mind. I have multiple CZ Shadow 2's and have owned Tanfo's. I prefer the Beretta, and have shot multiple GM classifiers since I got it. The current USPSA Carry Optics Champion won using this gun. So I'd say its well suited for competition.
@@Steadfast_Collective Compare the quantity of competition winners with CZ/Tanf. with the quantity of competition winners with Beretta (of ANY kind) and you will see the difference. The most competition winners use CZ and Tanf. Then if you have won a competition with this Beretta, it does not mean so much. Depends also on who you compete against.
I wonder if beretta sells just the defensive slide. I want one for my performance but don’t wanna spend $1500 and just have a blank 92x “deformance”? laying around lol
No they don't. Trust me my friend I have tried : ( Beretta has a weird deal where they serialize the barrel and the slide. So that may have something to do with it...
@@Steadfast_Collective is the defensive slide heavier b/c it’s a brigadier slide? Or is the plain defensive slide lighter just to balance out the heavier steel frame?
@@drummachinejoe1451 so the 92x performance defensive ( model in video ) is not the brigadier slide. The standard 92x performance does have a brigadier slide. 92x defensive also has material cut out on the inside of the slide. It is lightened to meet weight restrictions for IDPA. I put the 92x performance defensive slide on my regular 92x performance frame. Because it has a rail and is heavier. I shoot USPSA so their is not a weight restriction. It comes in at 54 0z with an empty magazine. Essentially you have to purchase two guns swap slides in order to do this. I hope that made sense.
@@Steadfast_Collective ahh ok. Got it. So the performance defensive is lighter than the std. performance w/ brigadier slide. I understand why you’d want the optics ready (perf. def.) slide for competition, but was confused because I thought it was still heavier than the std. but it’s not. Thanks!
You can’t use a light in IDPA, the rail is pointless. Some people do a hand forward grip and prefer it smooth, but the main reason is they needed to lighten it for IDPA so they went with the smooth dust cover. The regular 92x performance is too heavy for IDPA. This gun was built for IDPA, that’s why its called performance defensive (PD, a wink and nod to IDPA) and comes with the IDPA target in the box.
rail was removed to make weight for IDPA. "Defensive" is just a marketing name. The gun is meant for competition similar to the regular performance model.
@@Steadfast_Collective yea I get that but that's some bad marketing 🤣 I prefer all my defensive pistols to have a light or at least be able to add one . To identify my target when I'm on the "defense" 😉
@@K9Swift BRO I'm totally with you 🤣I dunno who over at Beretta thought the name was a good idea. I took the slide off this one and put it on my railed frame
Hey, do you know what is the standard hammer spring weight on these guns (14#, 16#, etc)? And with what spring did you replace it (11#, 12#, 13#, etc)? Also, are you talking about the Match hammer from the Beretta e-store? Thanks
I'm actually not sure which hammer spring it comes with stock. But I can tell you it is still pretty heavy from the factory in double action. For a replacement spring I used a 13# which I got from Langdon Tactical. The match hammer I am talking about is the one from the Beretta e-store. It made a huge difference.
Yes the trigger bar makes the reset much shorter. The hammer looks exactly the same once it is in the gun. But you will notice a difference at the base of the competition hammer compared to the stock one. The replacement hammer shortens the amount of travel to the "wall" in single action if that makes sense.
@@Steadfast_Collective ok, thanks for the explination, does the firing pin saftey still work with the new hammer even though it removes take up from the trigger pull? Sorry for all the questions I just purchased a 92X defensive and want to know whats what before I go swapping things.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iYTGbtXjxZo.html this video shows a better comparison of the match hammer and the stock one ( it's in Italian, use subtitles ) this is the video I watched before purchasing it
@@mericaeagle9319 Not a problem at all! From my understanding it does not change the firing pin safety. The main upgrades I would do in order: trigger bar, hammer spring, competition hammer. Are you using it for competition?
@@Steadfast_Collective Ok, thank you, and yeah, this is gonna be my IDPA/ USPSA pistol but its gonna do bedside duty as well so I want to keep ignition reliable, I assume a 13# spring would be good?
@@robedwards6926 no, and I use small rifle and small pistol magnum. Could be my firing pin is a little longer.. I’m not sure, but I only run regular or match grade small pistol primers for matches. I have some friends that’s won’t go below a 12. Honestly I don’t notice a huge difference between an 12 and 11
@@Steadfast_Collective Good to know, thanks. It's hard deciding between the Shadow 2 and 92x. Shadow is less money but I feel more drawn towards the 92x.
@@robedwards6926 so I have owned both and I ended up switching to the 92x Performance. I’ll narrow it down to a few reasons: The non tilting barrel/with the weight of the gun has a really nice recoil impulse that I don’t see with browning style guns. The trigger on the 92x was a lot more predictable and crips and the reset is amazing. Also keep in mind the new 92x P Carry Optics model comes with two Toni Systems plates. Which are normally $100 each
Sorry for the late response, but I can give you a more accurate response since I've been using it for the last 5 months. I have put 20,000 rounds through it and no issues
Wow so sad beretta downgraded the case so much. My 92x performance (og model) came in a really nice case with lock. Extremely fancy. Where was the new model being made?
The frame is also steel on the defensive. The weight differences, other than the rail, is inside. Take it apart and check out your slide, the mainspring area, and the dust cover. They removed material to make weight. And then grab a magnet and check the frame ;-) Also, Toni System makes dot mounts that are built for a number of optics out there, all the popular patterns.
I totally noticed the material cut out when I was cleaning it. I bought the Toni Systems one but received Beretta's earlier so I have been using that for now. With the regular performance frame the gun is a little over 50 oz. with an empty mag
LOL!! Beretta made a mistake in naming the Performance guns I hink. The standard Perf 92X should be the one with no wepon light rail or RDO cut. Could they not swap the Std Perf model's frame with the Perf Def? So guys like AB won't need to buy both guns? :) And, why is it NO ONE SO FAR has put out a 92G Brig-Tac with a RDO mount? If we want a 92G w/ RDO mount we' have to buy the M9A4. Or forgo the weapon light rail and get the Perf Def. :) Otherwise great 9mm guns out of the box. Nothing NEEDS to be upgraded.
I'm sure most people won't mind just shooting the defensive model in USPSA and IDPA as it is. I just happened to have the original and shot JJ's and enjoyed the extra weight so I swapped the slide onto my regular performance. The defensive model was named because of IDPA and in Italy there isn't a market for concealed carry so "defensive" doesn't have the same connotation
@@Steadfast_Collective Sadly no answer from there either. My permit to buying a handgun is going old so i will wait only 2 more weeks and buy some other gun. Tons of Shadow 2 available with optics rdy format.
@@Resident-cb3yz That's unfortunate.. There may just be an import issue they simply don't want to deal with. I can try reaching out to someone but I am not sure if they will have an answer either.
It is also ss frame , have to ball up on info before hand . it has cutouts vs the p92x which lighten it some. If it was aluminum frame it would then be like 35oz then.
The defensive model is a competition gun. The "defensive" model wording is in relation to the "D" in IDPA competition (International Defensive Pistol Association). IDPA has weight restrictions so in order to make weight they had to remove the rail
waiting for FFL to call me for my 92X Performance wait man i thought it come with the plates for the optic. so wait you cant compete in idpa with heavier one
There is the performance carry optics version and the performance defensive. Two different platforms. Defensive works for IDPA the standard performance does not
@@ploxplox1109 it’s too heavy. The weight limit for Carry Optics in IDPA is 45 oz with an empty magazine. The 92x performance Carry Optics is legal for USPSA/IPSC divisions
@@ploxplox1109 you’re going to love it! Congrats on the purchase. Make sure to register it for warranty and I’d appreciate it if you click my name when you do 🙏
So stingy of Beretta to sell this with such a crappy case... I believe the MSRP of this one is even higher than that of the 92x Performance. Even the M9A4 has a good case for a MSRP of $999. Makes absolutely no sense at all to not include the high quality case with this!
My regular 92x I bought a year ago came in one of the nicest gun cases I’ve ever seen for free (ex collectibles and museum pieces). Wonder why they stopped maybe it’s just on this model (USA made of exclusive idk???!)
You got both of them wrong! 92x performance is not stainless steel, but rutter carbon steel, which been coated. The Beretta 92x performance defensive is made out of carbon steel as well, no aluminum alloy!
Is it illegal to show how many pounds it takes for da break point and single action break point, i do not see a video showing how many pounds of break force on this gun. Id like to hope its no more than 3.5lb for SA and 8lb for DA stock .
