Keep up the good work my friend and after looking at the comments a house will never lose value only gain value because you are building it out of cement so it will stand the test of time and 30 years from today still look the same and a Passport Gang Member will always pay you top US Dollar to move into it so my advice the outdoor kitchen needs a bar and a pool and a outdoor Chess Board and laugh 😂 all the way to the bank 🏧🏧🏧 my friend.
Nice vlog Glen, before, during and after construction and very fast, it's amazing the hours the Thai workers put in with all the heat. Something that baffles me is not using double walled thermo blocks and not insulating the loft to the max like we do in Canada. Thailand has to deal with very hot weather all year round and if I build a home in Thailand it will be well insulated.
the strategies involving house with hvac/heater units in cold/hot climates are abit different than those with no(minimal) minicons in hot/humid climates. its been an interesting study surveying houses are built in Thailand. similarly look at house in middle america and caribean. ac is a luxury.
Another great video! My Thai wife and I bought a used home in Pattaya for $105 CAD and did some renovations on it for another $30k CAD. It always amazes me how inexpensive homes are in Thailand (outside of Bangkok and other tourist destinations) when compared to Canada. I hope Tik feels better soon. Have a safe trip back home.
Why a crawlspace and not a basement? Why are the wall in block instead of stud? No insulation from heat to help the air conditionner. Good informative video. Thx
I’ve never seen a basement here. This is likely due to the flooding Thai style ..done as cheaply as possible I know many foreigners who build and insulate ..you can also get higher quality thicker blocks that help save energy
Nice to find your channel Glen, I am building a home in Ban Phai not far from Khon Kaen. We got a half rai from my wifes sister we paid 5k usd. Very good price. We are spending 800k baut or about 20k usd for our home a two bedroom with one bath. Glad I found your channel.
That’s awesome good luck. There’s some good comments under this video about building. Also check out a channel called ‘living in two worlds’. He just documented a build out your way.
This house was built by a contractor for some people in our village Just my opinion, but most houses here are built to last about 20 to 30 years if that Not like the west where you can find a really good well built house from the 50s and fix it up Not saying it’s impossible, but that’s why I think most people just tear down and build new here
The things that annoys me with thai built homes is the state of the block work, they rarely install gutters , every build is based on those poured cast concrete square pillars, the ground works rarely get finished , the blue water pipes protrude everywhere, roof insulation is never a priority, and they always insist on an outside extra kitchen ,. Dont get me started on the furnishings and the usual sala pitched up out in the front,. I know its the thai way but i bet most of you reading this agree with my observations,. Good things , the roofing usually looks great, the tiling is spot on, and the finished article looks fantastic, best part is the price and flexibility of building regs,.
Just my opinion, but it’s likely to do with family visiting or to come to live with them A lot of people are either taking care of their elderly parents or their children’s children But on the other hand, a lot of Thai’s do love to show off their wealth, no different than the western upper class
Cost is my guess. Its all about getting it up for as cheap as possible. This would be your bottom budget home in rural Thailand. You can upgrade all you want if you’ve got the budget
It would be at least 4 times that down here on the islands. I think a half a rai here no view would hit you nearly two million than to build something like that house another two so great value for sure.
Very cool to see how they work, land in Chiangmai on the 30th then 2-1/2 hours north to my wife’s village and watching your videos has me prepared I really appreciate the content you provide
Thank you for sharing!! We are a couple (none of us is Thai) with 3 children and are thinking seriously about moving near Chiang Mai. Do you have some advice for land and build there?
Hey Glen , Nice to catch up with you, You got suggested!! Good old RU-vid, Great to see its still possible to get a house in a nice part of Thailand for around 1m bht is isan far from you ? Sorry to see the fires in your home land hope any of your love ones safe , take care my friend
Holy crap, RU-vid suggested one of my videos? Excuse me while I pick myself up off the floor. 😂 Issan is a ways away. I’m up in the north by the golden triangle. Great to hear from you Steve. Hope you’re doing well too. I’m back in Canada for a couple of months then heading back to my sweetheart
Thanks for showing your house conbstruction. Can we ask for some advice when we build our house towards the end of this year ? we are buikding near Roi Et or mahasarakham.
I didn’t build this house I don’t even know the builders so I can’t help you check out a channel called ‘living in 2 worlds’ guys name is Russell he just built a house out your way. He went through the whole process on his channel
Usually make fairly regular videos but we haven’t been travelling or doing much I blew my knee out and have been pretty much housebound for the last month
I remember, when I build my house in Thailand 18 years ago, we were spending 40K€ with an exchange rate of 1:50, so today it would be more like 50K€. So in Bah it was 2M. It's a single floor home. The property was already owned by my wifes family. Just last year we did some maintanance by painting the house in a new colour and some small other things.
Let’s face it soon as they see our white skin the price goes up In less than a year, this house has turned into a ramshackle mess with six dogs and shit everywhere. Probably less than a quarter rai of land Built as cheaply as possible top to bottom Hate to see what it’s gonna look like in 10 years
Not my house built by a Thai person in our village Houses now are built here with almost 100% concrete and steel so no worry about termites. The problem here is the designs (all the ledges they put on these new houses) lend themselves to birds roosting and nesting and shitting all over the house
Yes it’s real but it’s a Thai person building on land that they already own. Its the basic price. They’ve since fenced it and put a carport. More money
think of insulation as thermal mass. well that and prices, you can see why reflective barriers and natural cooling are big. (Especially since ac is a luxury). Insulation stuffed inside of radiant batts are available in most stores.
Thin blocks , crappy windows and thai style kitchen. Not to mention the lack of insulation sorry for being so negative but it will cost you in the long run
I always questioned why on the thai kitchens being outside. (even inside ones had no ac) Until I found I could not breath due to some of the traditional recipes on the stove. lol.
Some got into the habit during the China virus pandemic, but during "burning season" mid-January through March, farmers throughout Thailand , Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam burn (illegal but never enforced) their fields before the next planting. The air pollution is horrendous, and some Thai people are educated enough to wear N95 pollution masks. The worst part of Thailand for air pollution is often the Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai area. Just look at the mountains in the background of the video, and you can see the air pollution, and it gets so bad that sometimes you can't even see those mountains from that short distance.
Thanks bro this video is a prime example of what happens when RU-vid suggests a video 14,000 views.. most of my videos get one percent of that and it’s totally because of RU-vid ..this video is as crappy as the rest of my videos 😃but ended up in their suggested pile. It’s RU-vid who makes or breaks a channel not the creator Tik tells me she doesn’t even get notifications when we put out a new video
