Just to clarify (I am about to get mean) because some dingbat is trying to call me out in the comments. I really can't help it when people of little intelligence accuse me of things when really they are not the sharpest tool in the shed and they don't know that 2 + 2 = 4. They think it equals 22, but whatcha gonna do? In the video, I tell my story of discovering VultrHF in December and immediately switching to it. But that going direct is VERY technical. Then I tell how I called and begged Cloudways to add it as an option, which they did 5 days ago. Well this genius writes, "You say you’ve been enjoying it for 10 months. Your cloudways account only has a digital ocean server..... Hmmm" Break out the tinfoil hat and report that UFO, ya figured me out! The reality is, even though this is a channel for non-techies, I myself am VERY technical. I have been using VultrHF directly, since December, just like I said in the video. Now that Cloudways is an option, that is by far the better way.

Just a quick question: *How much is too much (pages + posts) on WordPress?* I'm asking you that because one of my clients has around 1500pages + 1000posts and the site gets slower each week (public and admin). Yes, the site is optimized and cached (wp plugins) already. The server resources are ok too. Thank you in advance!

@alaididnalid7660 4 года назад
@@dividsky I went through a lot of Adams videos and my take on it is that pagebuilders play a big role when it comes to speed. Gutenberg should be faster but I don't have enough insight to give you actual numbers. I mean, it also depends on the server setup, right? Shared hosting vs dedicated resources? I'm lacking thorough experience in WordPress though, I'm still catching up on things as I used to be more of a Drupal 7 guy.

Well while it sounds like you may have had a poor experience with them, you can find someone that can say the same exact thing with any host out there. The vast majority of people have had great experiences and if that were to change, I would remove them myself. I have been monitoring the website performance for the past few months and its been great. They have LiteSpeed servers, the admin is clean and integrated, support is really fast, and all starting at $3 per month. So if I have lost credibility in your eyes, that's ok, you don't have to watch what I put here on RU-vid.

Sounds fantastic. Definitely will give it a try. In the past, I had used SiteGround (very satisfied with them until they raised the price from about $160 per year to over $400), and currently am using a2 and Hostinger. Both have advantages and disadvantages, and I'm not really happy with either one of them; they are ok but not great. So where do you host your email servers if you don't mind me asking?
@WPCrafter
@WPCrafter 4 года назад
So that video should be out today, but what I personally do is keep a dirt-cheap cpanel hosting that I use for email only. It's the cheapest way. We are talking cheap, like the Hostinger $1 per month hosting. I would never dare put a website on the hosting, but email is not sensitive. Many others use Google Apps or something like that if they have clients because it's smarter to not be their email support desk.

There seems to be a ton of options to customize your resources, CPU, and everything else which makes it kind of confusing but it might be nice to have that level of control to improve performance or budget. Yes so you will really feel it in the admin area, but yes, the front as well. Sometimes you can mask the front end right, with heavy caching, but you can't mask the admin area. I did try out Hostinger Litespeed and the TTFB is slower because it's stil shared hosting, but its a really low price. But Cloudways is giving you dedicated resources, that you don't share. So there is a bit of a difference there. It's really something you need to experience for yourself. Everyone that does can attest to how fast it is.

Very interesting ... does Cloudways support hosting resellers. I have a hosting reseller account with NameHero where I use WHMCS to automatically configure and setup hosting packages for my clients (using WHM and cPanel). The WHMCS package also allows me to provide domain registration services to my clients and configure them in my clients hosting package without me having to do ANYTHING manually. Does Cloudways offer this or something similar for configuring your server?

Thanks for the video, But why go with Vultr trough Cloudways and not from vultr directly? The price is lower at Vultr site than they are in Cloudways? I saw at Vultr that they also have an option to "one click install" of wordpress and other apps, Thank you very much
@WPCrafter
@WPCrafter 4 года назад
Having a one-click install is nice, but if you are brave and will never need support, never need staging, never need server-side caching, never need site cloning, never need an interface for the 100 other things involved with a setup like this, go for it :-). Then when you are done stepping over dollars to save a few pennies, you might want to consider Cloudways.

Can you please try and do a review on Google cloud platform? I know it doesn't have a friendly user interface. But apparently it is where all these hosting providers are getting their cloud servers. I would imagine that cutting out the middleman and going straight to the source would be the cheapest.

There are different levels of it. Most of the hosts uses the cheapest level of it which has stability and scalability, but is not faster then other options. Then there is Google Cloud Computer which is really expensive, this is where VultrHF (despite being inexpensive) is comparable to, but for a fraction of the cost.

Adam great as usual. Have you looked into going direct to Vultr and spinning up a server and installing CyberPanel, which is an open-source control panel? You would save a shed load of money doing it this way when compared to Cloudways, especially the higher plans
@WPCrafter
@WPCrafter 3 года назад
Hey Ed, I think you also asked this in the Facebook Group :-). Just going to copy/paste my response here: Yes that is an open source control panel but I think there are some things you are not factoring in. When you had hosting at A2 hosting, they were managing and maintaining your server for you. If there was an issue, they dealt with it with priority, so fast that you wouldn't even know. So even though you only sought some help a few times related to your website, that doesn't mean everything else was hands off. So while you can put an open source control panel on a server, just make sure you know Linux and Linux commands to be able to know your way around. Prior to Cloudways I used Linode direct and gotta say, it was no walk in the park, and I do have experience with Linux and system admin. It wasn't a matter of if something goes wrong, it was more of a when something goes wrong, because it's going to happen. For me, I will never go direct again just to save $10 per month or whatever it ends up being.

@ClickbyClickus
@ClickbyClickus 4 года назад
I think it's safe to say that any decent hosting company is going to be able to get you the performance you want if you do your part and research your theme, keep your pages tight, cache and use a CDN. It can really get overwhelming quick and distract you from more important tasks. My novice opinion is that too many control variables would be needed to get an accurate test. Even comparing "cloud-based' hosting alone is hard unless you not only know that the file structure is configured the same but that the drives have equal amounts of storage because if they don't, this could also impact speed. Then you go down the list of everything else that could be different like an apache server or litespeed, what CDN you are using, if your cpanel is configured right/you ticked the right php setting boxes, an image cruncher, caching, optimizing code, are you using a light weight quality theme and following best practices, etc etc. The other factor in this we should keep in mind (just an opinion) is that hosting companies only have so much that they can use to differentiate from all the others. I imagine a lot of time is spent in hosting company offices somewhere with upper management engaged in some high-level feature trigonometry to maximize features perceived as attractive and innovative to boost their value proposition while minimizing the cost to acquire these features. In addition, some of these companies "educate" their potential customers about these features and do a pretty good job of convincing people that their hosting bundle is superior to others. I have tried godaddy basic HDD business hosting, name hero's cloud based with ssds & litespeed + raid 10 configuration and cloudflare's railgun (and if we're being honest, I did think I really had a sweet hookup when I first got it), AWS EC2 and Cyber Panel and have had similar results when I followed best practices to the best of my ability. used a CDN(also with name hero's premium railgun), top rated themes to the best of my ability. My experience has been that CDN's are a no brainer and I have had good results with the few I used, using a lightweight Theme and following best practices seems to give the highest return (interestingly it actually requires work too and I have yet to find an all-inclusive plugin that replaces running speed tests and making it better, line by line. the end
