If I recall correctly, the orchestral arrangement on this track took an award. Well deserved. A beautiful piece of sonic poetry, perfect for those amazing lyrics.
This is phenomenal. My favorite song from Court and Spark and pretty much ever. Those opening piano chords just bring me to a whole other place. Thanks for uploading this, had no idea this happened.
Can I just give a shout out to the band here. Joni's songs differ from decade to decade and so for them so embrace the essence of them like this is truly amazing! Great version of this song with her doing some of the incredible harmonies for us 💕
Rock at its classical music best. Joni's extraordinary guitar playing has been much talked about, but her piano arrangements less so. I love the long introduction on Paprika Plains, which this was a precursor to.

I beg to differ. Too much attitude in this performance. No need to 'Gild the Lily'. Joni's original has authenticity, extremely difficult to better. One needs to be more than a good singer to do that. One needs to come from a very deep place of the soul, so to speak. Having said that, this performance is a brave and loving homage. Good on her. :-)
Sorry,loved the musical arrangement but did not dig the singing,sorry,sorry.I lobe Brandi Carlisle but she really did not infuse this wonderful sing with the depth of feeling of the original but then Joni is almost an impossible standard to live up to,she is a soul supreme.I really wanted to like it,honest! The band was great but not the vocals.
