I think these videos are awesome" but I kind of wish the celebrations would be shown so we can revel in the pure joy once we understand the lead in. Sometimes it seens like we understand the storyline then some of the people watching it on tv or even in the venue.

I am German so therefor hope England does not pass group stage. So sorry, but no deal. But I will bet anything you want, that England does better at the upcoming world cup than the USA team :D Benjamin, I understand that, but as soon as any American thinks of "soccer" it has a negative and laughable connotation. I think as soon as you say the word, more people think of soccer moms than of the actual sport.

Anon because that isnt the point of the video. It's to show the backstory of a famous precise moment in sports history, and answer "how did we get here?"
@omgbunny
@omgbunny 6 лет назад
Patrick Ketza it's in the thumbnail though ??
@anonmeatcheesebun
@anonmeatcheesebun 6 лет назад
Patrick Ketza - Sure, and that's great. But almost any documentary or short detailing an iconic moment or event at the very end will show the said event at the very end, as sort of a cathartic release or a moment where all the building history leads up to, where you, the watcher, can go, YES. That's what I was waiting for. With all the back-story re-established, it almost feels like you're watching it for the first time again if it's included and thats why I and many others like it so much. Also as omgbunny pointed out, it's in the thumbnail lol Edit: And if what you say is true, why show the goal at all? Why not let the clip play on for whatever 5-10 more seconds?

0-0 is pretty common in soccer knockout rounds. When you lose if you are out, a team can't afford to play too offensively. So if the teams are evenly matched. Although golden goals are a reason to be more aggressive.

I don't mind the concept of a golden goal, especially in a final, as it forces teams to play aggressively through extra time instead of just hoping for penalty kicks
@burningphoneix

I love golden goals. Without them, Extra time is literally just passing back to the CBs waiting for penalties.
@SonicXisnow2009
@SonicXisnow2009 3 года назад
@@burningphoneix you may be romanticizing the golden goal days. Trust me, it made teams even more cautious and defensive. At least if you get scored on nowadays, you still have time to make up for it and it leads to plenty of excitement. Just look at Croatia-Russia in 2018 or US-Belgium in 2014. Teams that were game planning around being defensive and cautious were going to do so anyways, but the golden goal made teams otherwise not like that also be cautious. Especially in international play which is overly cautious as is (due to lack of team chemistry and time to prepare). My funniest memory of golden goals would probably be me being in LA during the 2000 gold cup. Mexico and Canada were tied 1-1 heading into extras in a quarterfinal matchup and it was overly cautious bunker ball by Canada till Mexico made one fatal flaw and it ended in their net. Canada would eventually win the tournament in front of maybe 2000 fans in the LA Coliseum for the finals.

"Scurry guessed correctly..." Scurry made an illegal move by running of the goal line towards the PK taker. Every keeper does this to a certain extent (they usually jump a couple of feet towards the taker before diving), however Scurry blatantly ran towards the taker even before the Chinese player made contact with the ball. Astonishingly bad call by the referee, in a World Cup final no less.

The build-up to that game was pretty much in all media at the time. I had never watched a women's soccer game in my life, but I watched that one. When they won, it really did feel like something important had just happened, and I think they even tried to launch a women's MLS-style soccer league in America because of all the attention. Then the USMNT had a great run at the 2002 WC, and you could have sworn a revolution was brewing here. Who could have guessed those few years would be the zenith for soccer in America.

J10L12K11 the quality of the game is just low. It is like under 15 boys or worse. And I don’t mean to be a chauvinist or something. I enjoy many women’s sports that are played on a high level, but women’s football is just unpleasant to watch because of the lack of quality.

jaczekdertuerke That doens't mean that there aren't moments deserving of a rewind. I really enjoyed this video because it showcased one of the most memorable moments in womens sports history. High quality of play or not, it was definitely something special
