@@SwannyTheMike @big1boston Well that isn't completely true stoicism still remains an important philosophy especially amongst men, but in the end thats all it is a way of life practiced by some theirs no need to judge others who show emotion or practice a stoic lifestyle we should all show respect for each others way of life.
@@cdcastro7986. Agree. If anyone's life style isn't hurting anyone else as in a physical way or an emotional way like for example. An alcoholic husband or wife could hurt their family because of their life style. Or drug abuse that could hurt both ways, physical and emotional ways to the partner and children if they have any and even themselves. Stay well my friend.
There is zero logic to the argument that she "exposed herself." A sports bra is literally the least sexy bra there is. Women can wear bikinis and deep v dresses and nobody bats an eye, but omg she revealed her midsection in celebration, what a harlot 🙄
@@dr.professor5229 . Bras are not sexy or thongs or anything else. When the woman any woman "remember, beautiful is in the eye of the beholder" puts on the bra, g - spring, blouse, pants, skirt or even a regular dress per say. They the women make all them items look sexy. That's my opinion. Nothing against your own opinion. Stay well my friend.
@@joeking2358 you literally just explained what his comment meant to him. Obviously he doesn't find the object itself to be sexy. It's blatantly clear if someone says "Bras are sexy" they mean "Women wearing bra's look sexy" like cmon dude. No need to explain a simple comment to the person that made it.
@@DoobieFerguson . Mr. Ferguson, please go back and read that comment again. Then show me the part where it says that women are sexy in bras or that it's the woman that makes the bra look sexy. Go ahead I'll wait. It's a very short comment. 4 words and an emoji. But it shouldn't be to hard to not find where that comment explains that the bras are not sexy, that it's the woman that makes the bra look sexy. Just in case you didn't know my DUDE there is a lot of perverts out there that get off on intimate clothing for women. Now am I saying that dr.professor5229 is a pervert, no. I'm just letting you know in case you didn't know but I'm sure you already knew that. There are persons that think that bras look sexy on men and let me tell you something BRO, we don't. But like I said in my over explaining comment "according to you". Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'll be waiting for your proof but until then. Stay well my friend. 🥱🥱🥱🥱
I remember seeing her take that shot all those years ago. For all of the struggle and controversey that woman has endured to get to where she is today if anyone were to call her the G.O.A.T. I wouldn't argue with it.
This is a great one! I was a young lad when this happened so I wasn't aware of all the crap she had to go through. Just knew Brandi as a solid pick on my Backyard Sports Soccer team. Thanks for the video!
I felt then as a teenager that this "controversy" was stupid as a teenager then, and still do. I think it was the first sign for me realizing how stupid our world can be.
Still remember this moment, so glad i got to watch it live. FIFA doing its best to remove the taking your shirt off celebration from the game is one of the worst things ever. This picture is ICONIC, like jordans last shot or Ali after the knock out.
I was 19 when this happened, and even back then I thought it was ridiculous how much negativity that one moment got...she had every right to celebrate and show excitement for having won, and it's a shame that all these years later people still can't get over an image of a woman in her sports bra...
This moment was crazy good. Iconic sports moment. Passion, joy, beauty, athleticism, competition, victory. It was all of that and more. That team was amazing. Briana scurry made the save. Mia hamm, Julie foudy those are the names I still remember. I was in love with Mia hamm.
Brit here. It's so sad that womens' football globally has taken so long to get off the ground and get its flowers, and speaking personally it feels even more shameful that Britain has lagged behind the U.S. so much in this regard--America was celebrating their womens' team and building a pro-league 15-20 years ago, where we were ignoring female players.
@@pendafen7405 I think it's not really the point, but it definitely is one of the reasons for how underfunded women's sports in general. They have another exciting form of the same sport. If there's was push for both sides GB and other places would have better teams. It's the same across all sports except for gymnastics and volleyball. Great thing is that soccer isn't popular here, so there was a vacuum for eyes on the product
@@ryanb01 no-one has a gun to your head man, if something isn't for you then it's not for you. That doesn't make that something inherently and objectively bad or lame? Can't believe someone is having to explain this to you
@@pendafen7405 I didn’t say it was bad, you’re acting like it’s the best thing in the world and people are not giving them their flowers for some reason. Only way you get more viewers is by winning things which they done last year.
If you rewatch those penalty kicks, you'll notice on almost every kick, the keeper from each country comes off the line early. If those were taken nowadays they'd all be called back.
I remember watching this live on tv… as a soccer player I enjoyed the moment… within the sport of winning a game of this magnitude it was totally justified… btw I’m a man and I still don’t see all these articles as truly understanding the sport. In soccer this the end zone celebration in football, the jump on the home plate after a walk off home run in baseball, the jump into the glass wall in hockey…. We all have our celebrations when it comes to sports. Brandi is an icon and deserves to be treated as such… when I think of the USWNT, she’s definitely in the top 5 of all time best!!! Great video… thanks for sharing !
What a lot of people don't know is taking your shirt off like that is very common in soccer... When I saw it I didn't think it was special bc I'd seen it many times

You can be a great soccer player and not be in great shape. You have to be a great player to get around fitness issues. If you aren’t no coach will pick you
Also, men traditionally take their jerseys off in international matches to trade them with their counterparts from the opposing team. It’s not a celebratory gesture, it’s one of respect and friendship. I know there are times that they rip their jerseys off and throw them into the crowd or whatever, but that’s a fairly new phenomenon when compared to the jersey exchange we’ve been accustomed to
People are lame, busybody, troublemakers, She stayed committed to what she love for decades, had some success and she could have popped a microphone 🎙 out her sock and shouted- “buy this Nike Bra” if she wanted to do so. We still using virtue signaling as an excuse to be evil and tear each other apart to this day. She’s solid in my book.
As a former D1 collegiate soccer player, I think it’s extremely telling that even Brandi didn’t dispute the speculations regarding her fitness. I can recall numerous practices where we would run for 120 minutes before drills, scrimmaging, skill work, etc. followed by another 45 minute running session. The level of conditioning required to not only make the national team, but to also see the field is well beyond what a “regular” person is capable of. I’ll freely admit that the vast majority of the WNT could probably run me into the dirt. The point I’m trying to make is that sometimes when players excel at their current level, they “let off the gas” and then when they move up to the next level of competition, they’re unprepared for the challenge. I believe Brandi got complacent as a “star player” at Cal and assumed nobody could touch her. Unfortunately, she was wrong, but she managed to recognize her error and correct it.
At the end of the day, a group of women made an 8-year old boy fall in love with soccer for the very first time. It wasn't MLS and it sure as hell wasn't the USMNT. It was this team and that game that started it all for me.
I remember at the time when all the talking heads were making a big deal of it. My mom, who is usually rather conservative saw this and was like "what's the big deal, it isn't even a skimpy bra or anything". I remember the controversy in the media, but I don't remember anyone in real life who had a problem with her.
Not sure if I’ve ever caught that sendoff before, you should definitely keep it if it’s new! And if it isn’t new, forgive my ignorance, I’ve been a bit frazzled of late.
Personally I’ll always remember Brianna Scurry’s save since it was possibly the most blatant instance of goalie encroachment in the history of the game.
It would've been a lot worse if she was not wearing a bra under the jersey but the fact that she was wearing one means the naysayers should just lay off. That woman is an icon for women's sports.
There is a lot of reaching in this video. She had plenty of people defending her, going to the enquirer for the history might not be the most reliable source.
You can tell by the emotion in the photo it was just an excited reaction to scoring the goal and winning the game. She celebrates with passion and taking her shirt off is just part of that. Women's sports definitely don't get the same respect men's does. If it was the men's everyone would recognize it was just a moment of passion. Why can't woman get that same respect. It's like as a woman she's not even allowed to show emotion. So stupid.
Insane. Now in 2023 women can’t seem to keep clothes on, ever. I never understood the outrage but it is a very lasting moment that probably would be forgotten had she now done it
You could do hours and hours on him. Just bodyline alone is worth a miniseries, his conflicts as an administrator after, plus all the other series, ending with a batting average that will never even be remotely approached.
@@bigpoppa1234 I've been asking for 5 years and it hasn't happened yet. Fingers crossed. Personally I think it should be a chart party episode. Beyond just cricket the man stands alone statistically in sport. He's 50% better than the next best guy in a game that's been going for over a century. Maybe if you ask as well in 10 years we might get it.
@@michaelhall5429 There's probably more chance of Jomboy doing a chart party on Bradman than SB haha. He's the most statistically dominant player of any sport in history. Messi has Ronaldo, Maradona. Ruth has Cobb or Aaron or Rose. I think the only real competitors in major sports are Gretzky in NHL and Brady in NFL but they still don't match "almost double the long term playing quality of the next highest person".
The real winner in the "bra-gate scandal" was China...even though their national team lost the match, they got to make a ton of money by manufacturing cheap sports bras for Nike using indentured servants.
Before each video starts now I have minor anxiety that it’s gonna be not Seth or this girl narrating. Glad it’s her she’s my favourite of the bunch. Then Seth. Then that’s it. The other guy is terrible at narrating.
Clara-get over yourself. Dorance is a serial killer???? Noticed you didn’t bring up Mia Hamm, who would’ve told Brandi what was expected as she’d played for him FOUR YEARS. That’s the lowest blow. Totally taking EVERYTHING out of context to fit your narrative.
The 90s: :You famous women over there are going to get scolded, ridiculed, sexually objectified, and called all sorts of names by a bunch of old white men and turncoat women because misogyny is juuuuust fine"
I’m glad y’all called out the newspapers that said such awful and sexist things about Chastain and the women’s team as a whole, I just wished you went one step further and added the names of those who *wrote* the articles.
Yeah, but did she juicey juice? A little help from the doc?🤔 The sauce is undefeated. Hell, 5 card draw poker & checkers are more exciting than womens soccer AND Myron Rapino 4ever destroyed the attractiveness theme
Clara's narration in Rewind always bothered me, her jokes seemed not well thought out or even... funny? (she does this alot). Never been a fan. However, this was the best Prism episode, and Clara delivered. Her personality and delivery was perfect for this story, really highlighting just how absurd some of the hate and the reasoning was. Awesome job Clara!
9:04 imo the sour taste over Nike's involvement arose due to recuperation, i.e. 'selling out'. A powerful moment of counterculture (womens' football, back when it was maligned and mocked by everyone besides sporty lesbians) was coopted for financial gain by a multnational corporation marketing primarily to the masses, who had no intention of further investment in the womens' game either.
Nice to here, that I'm iconic and not only once but every night when I take off my shirt going to bed. better take some selfies from now on, to make the world aware.
