We just moved from near Joe Bald Mkt in Kimberling City to the West Coast and used to go to Ahoy's (now destroyed) just behind the Kimberling Inn and many places in Branson, etc. We're happy to hear of so few injuries - sadly, the people of Joplin were not so fourtunate last year.
@NAWROCKI65 Thank you for your kind words about this movie. I was just in Kim City the day before this thing hit. I'm glad it didn't hit where you live.
Excellent work, marsradio! I'm sharing this to my network on Facebook. Our house is less than 1000 feet from Snapps Funeral Home that got hit. We are incredibly blessed. Others, not so much. We pray for Branson!
Great info and commentary !! I lived lakefront in Branson West about a half mile north of where the tornado crossed the lake near Indian Point... Was outside on my back deck at around 1am and could hear it roaring as it passed by in the dark...
@GrahamCrackerPhotos Thank you for your kind words. Glad that it didn't get any closer to you. No matter which way you look at this whole event, we are very fortunate!
@SoGoGal Wow...you really do like this place :) Thanks for coming. Next time you come down you'll be amazed at how much progress has already been made. About the only places that are totaled are JR's Motor Inn, Blue Bayou and that shopping center where Mazzios is/was.
Your video was mentioned on KY3 news in Springfield tonite. Amazing graphics and narration. We normally view these disasters in fragments and it was, however tragic, fascinating to view the entirety of what happened. Photo inserts and poignant narration emphasized the tragic toll as well to area residents and business owners. I took cover the same nite as the Buffalo, MO tornado passed within a mile of my home and my mother was a survivor of the Joplin tornado last May. Thanks for this.
@kjchandler4 Thank you. Yes, I am blown away that the local media has shown this on the air. I had no idea when I made this movie that it would garner so much interest. I'm glad it has been so helpful in illustrating what happened. Thank you for watching.
@SoGoGal We may be a little down, but we're not out! A LOT has been repaired in this past week and a half. In another month, I'm sure almost everything will be back open - except for maybe Blue Bayou and JR Inn - they are probably total losses. So, don't change those plans...Branson is OPEN for business, and we look forward to seeing you!
Yes, the market should reopen before too long. Fortunately, we were lucky in many ways. Most tornadoes that do make it through here seem to be weakened by the terrain. Welcome to Branson! :)
@Ozarker44 Thanks for the pronunciation help...oops! :) My boat is at that storage. It was just fine, but my storage unit's doors were peeled off of their tracks. Manager told me that one guy's boat was shoved out of his unit and then wheeled across and slammed into the next row of units. Seems like the further into the storage facility you went (north), the worse the damage was. So, it depends where your unit was. Call Dave or Trish and they'll let you know. Hope all is okay.
Thankfully, this happened in February, which is kind of the "off season" for Branson. If it had occurred later in the spring and Branson was full of tourists there probably would have been scores of tourists either injured or killed.
Haha you should have seen my front yard! I live off of T-Highway, on the exact rode that the tornado went down. My grandpa's trailer was completely destroyed and our house had some damage, the tornado was litterally 100 feet from us. Scariest thing I've ever gone through, especially since I was super sick
You are very welcome, Cyndee. Please enjoy your visit to our wonderful town. Tornadoes are so incredibly rare here due to the terrain. This was a fluke. Hope you and your family have a good time, and thank you for visiting Branson!
Cyndee P Those are good shows! You guys will love them. Don't forget to visit The Landing and see the water/fire/music show. Plenty of great dining there, and the best Mexican food on the planet (in my humble opinion) is there at Cantina Laredo. Enjoy and God Bless!
We LOVE Mexican food, so will check that out for sure! Thanks!! Also, we've always like the landing every time we've gone and will make sure to go again and walk the streets enjoying the awesome atmosphere. again, thanks.
Just so you know, it's pronounced Kiz-zee Mills. Still, great coverage on the track, guess it's now time to see if my storage unit on Mt. Branson is still intact or gone completely.
@RamaRendezvoo All of these lakes are impounded rivers which were created as a result of flood control needs in this area. They help bolster our tourism economy, and we are thankful for them!
It was too dark to actually see it, but you could see the power transformers blowing up. Then the power went out, and lucky that we made it too walk-in.
how many miles did it travel? i live in hollister at College of the Ozarks and none of us knew the amount of damage Branson received until the next morning.
When this happened it was a few weeks before an elementary school field trip. It was what you call an AR field trip. I was young and very into tornadoes. The fun thing was that this field trip was Ride the Ducks. On the way down I saw damage and almost leaping out of my seat in excitement. XD When we got there I asked the person on duty how much damage the got. only one "Duck" got a bit of damage. now I don't believe him since it went right by it
+travlingirl productions I'm so glad this didn't happen during your field trip. We are so lucky that this happened in the middle of the night. I think the person who told you about the damage was correct. To the best of my knowledge, the tornado barely missed the Ducks parking lot. Another thing to consider is that this tornado was moving really, really fast...like around 70 miles per hour. So, because of this swift forward motion, most of the damage occurred on the side of the rotating funnel that was rotating in the same direction as the funnel was moving. On the opposite side, the effects of the rotation winds were reduced (cancelled out some) by the forward lateral speed of the funnel. So, you had a huge contrast between lots of damage and virtually no damage in a very small area. [I hope that makes sense]. Thank you for watching :)
Oh...you're local. And you guys got more wind as it was stronger toward Forsyth. Doppler Radar was clocking some wind gusts at around 100 mph above Forsyth. Hopefully none of those gusts were transported to the ground!
marsradio yep I was born and raised right here. That day when we realized the storm was getting really bad I looked at my wife and told her I was going to run two streets over and pick up our son cuz he lived in a trailer. As I opened the door and pushed open the screen door I was yanked out of the house and the door was slammed shut behind me by the wind. I landed about 10 to 12 feet out in my yard next to my car. Long story short I made it to get my son and we got back to the house safely. It was the only time I've ever felt nervous during a storm. When the tornado made landfall in powersite it hit two houses that sat on the bluff above the lake. They both looked like bombs had went off inside & the only thing left standing was the front walls.
I don't determine the ratings of tornadoes. The EF2 rating was assigned by the National Weather Service survey crew who inspected the damage caused by this tornado. I'm simply reporting their finding.
It actually started just to the north (left) of the point they are showing here at 0:49 sec. At the single boat slip in the cove.I was on the phone with the person that lives there when it hit. He said there goes the dock and then we lost power to our area.
Got a question!! How close did this tornado get to Beaver Creek Marina in Kissee Mills. I live in Kissee Mills just 3 minutes north of it. Also just of note I had a small EF0 tornado go through the front of my yard this April of 2018!
I know, right! If this thing happened in the middle of the afternoon (especially during tourist season over here), then there would have been serious injuries or fatalities due to those rocks. They were on the roof of a grocery store which was right next to a Walmart. Can you imagine rocks flying around a crowded Walmart parking lot on a Sunday afternoon? It wouldn't have been a good thing!
@oldlefty66 Thank you...it's funny...the Weather Channel was broadcasting live from the Wal-Mart parking lot when I went there to shoot the Taco Bell / TCBY footage.
@bigbocapedro Yep, Lake Taneycomo (looks) like a River, but it's a 'man-made Lake' - Army Corps of Engineers among others were involved in all that between 50-60 years ago, creating the Dam, etc... but then again, I saw a guy that saw Bigfoot once!
the tornado went up stormy point road and crossed over heading towards branson 4 homes were destroyed lucky 2 of them were still under construction and no one was living in them
You failed to mention it destroyed Rustic acres resort and a lot of Powersite Missouri and a Farm at the very end .Did a good job on this but you could have been more thorough where it hit .A lot of damage around Kissee Mills too!
@@marsradio do you half a type in a code or something Oh and also I was in one a tornado last night in Forrest City Arkansas the nursing home in Monet was destroyed
@@MrPearsonTheCook I don't remember needing a code. I just downloaded the kmz file from the NWS and then opened it in Google Earth. And yeah the tornadoes were horrible last night. Glad you're okay!
i live in branson and i live in a hotel on 76 strip next to ride the ducks at 3:04 it went behind me lucky it didnt hit head on...i was outside on the balcony and saw where about it was up around andy williams all you could see was pitch black then lots of huge flashing green lights made my ears pop
This video is quite inaccurate. This Tornado was officially rated as an EF4 pretty much on its whole entire journey. Also there was much more noticeable and worse damage done them what you described. But still very interesting and fascinating video. :)
Can you please cite your source for your claim that the 2012 Branson Tornado was an EF4? I am a National Weather Service-trained spotter who is actively involved in local/regional Skywarn activities. In all of my dealings with the aftermath of this tornado, I never once saw anything published or even implied that rated this tornado an EF4. Can you please provide links with facts published by the National Weather Service with findings that this event was an EF4?
Yep. Confirmed EF 1 tornado to our east along the Taney and Ozark County line on April 30, 2019. Details: www.weather.gov/sgf/2019_April_30_TornadoOutbreak
I didn't live here when it happens but I now do I live rite down the road from jubalee were my fiances mom worked luckily she had the day off but it blew out the windows were she was staying jubalee is still being worked on they hope to reopen this fall
OK for one that lake isn't a lake, but a river. Seriously lakes arent long and skinny? who named it a lake. 2nd Highway 76... Does that run in circles, or do you name every highway 76?
