Hi Paul, back to some "proper hiking!" I enjoyed seeing the waterfalls and fast-flowing streams. Interesting seeing the patches of ice at the higher elevations. Beautiful views all around and the historic ruins were very attractive. It looked like a very hermit-friendly hike! 👍😀 It wouldn't be quite so pleasant if you had the task of carrying a corpse 🤔 Thanks for taking us along - Julie & Lucy ❤
@TheHikingHermit
@TheHikingHermit 4 месяца назад
Hi Julie n Lucy, oh yeah back to the proper hermit hiking. It had rained plenty enough in the preceding days so plenty of water flow. This was the day before Good Friday so still pretty icy up there and chilly with the wind if you're not wrapped up. The best views were dropping into the ruins with those views of the reservoir and surrounding fells. I've been up to the summit of all those fells too 😂 I'm not sure I'd want to carry a coffin down there for those views tho. I hope to do the walk again one day when the sun is shining with blue skies. I'm glad you enjoyed the hermit hike. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week 🙂👍Paul

There were quite a few cascades on this one and I'm sure they have names. The ones dropping off the length of the mountains were spectacular with the recent rain that had been put down. Maybe I should bag all the waterfalls in the Lake District when I'm done with the Wainwrights. Then again I'm sure it runs into the 1000s 🙂

Cool looking old Ruins of the Stone houses what a place to stay definitely make a good Hermit hut . Well spotted waterfall shame the rain came at the end . Thanks for taking us along with you Hermit good video 📹 👍

The walk up the pass was a shock to the system. I've not been hiking proper for too long. However I was rewarded with some great views on a moody day. The drop down into the old ruined huts had the best views. Nice place for a hermit hut I'd say. Some smashing waterfalls along with the way with all the rain that had fallen. Hi Tracy, I was back in the Lake District where my channel all started from. It was great to be back bagging the Wainwrights. This one was a relatively short hike but very hermit friendly. Good to see you back in Blighty Paul! A cracking day out in the Lakes. Weird seeing snow on the tops still, winter feels like a distant memory here 😂 the Peat Huts look a decent spot for a cheeky camp. That walk covred a heck of a lot in only a few hours!
@TheHikingHermit
@TheHikingHermit 4 месяца назад
Hi Matt, well I had to come back one day, I have those Wainwrights to finish off. This was the day before Good Friday so it still gets chilly up in the Lake District fells especially with that wind. The higher fells had more than a dusting of snow too. The peat huts did look a great spot for a camp and those barrels could come in handy for a fire. It was a pretty short walk but had some awesome views over the Haweswater reservoir. Thanks for watching. Have a great week 👍🙂Paul

How good it is to see you doing some proper hiking 😃 (No catching the train to the top here !) Great to hear you're ticking off the Wainwrights again & yes I remember how much you loved conquering those Birketts with me 🤔🤣It was an excellent choice to do these two on a Bank holiday weekend, the weather was kind and it looked Hermit friendly away from the Easter crowds. You got the ideal time plus some fabulous views 😎 That pillar trig is really intriguing & you got some brilliant shots worth climbing the fence for. There's been very few decent hiking days this winter with sooo much rain & strong winds & in fact I did a circuit of Hawswater this last weekend & even at that low level was difficult to keep upright. However lots of rain means the waterfalls are spectacular and the reservoir full which is good news for all the thirsty people in Manchester 😊 That corpse road is wonderful & a favourite path for me with the peat huts setting off the view superbly. I have to say I was really concerned for your mental state at one point but realised I had misheard you saying Wi-Fi not wifey 😨😃 so all is well 😅 Great video Paul to get you back in the swing of things - hope to see more like this very soon 😊
@TheHikingHermit
@TheHikingHermit 4 месяца назад
I know back proper hiking and no trains or cable cars to catch...damn! Those fells weren't even Birketts anyway but they were good ones to bag. I did a few hikes over Easter and it was not that busy or not as busy as I expected. I mean I got free parking at 10.30 in the morning on one of the days! No £8 at Whinlatter for me 😂 It was pretty windy high up all weekend but not horrendous. I got lucky...with the weather. The views dropping down into the peat huts on the old corpse road were spectacular even on a moody day. I hope to go back one day when it's a sunny day and blue skies. Don't be daft with the wifey business. I might be daft but I'm not that daft ha ha. I'm glad you enjoyed the hermit back in the lakes. Thank you very much for watching 🙂👍Paul

Great way to start with a rushing stream and a gate The clouds are heavenly It amazes me how they looks like hills but also appears to be some good elevation gain I had to google it but can say they are nice looking Crags I would enjoy making one of the the dry rock pile pillars - impressive point The old rock house amazing Incredible to be in such a wide open space with little to no other people Well done Hiking hermit. Cheers👍

Hi Mike, the weather changes pretty quickly in the big hills and even more so in Scotland. The good, or bad thing about it you see it coming in so at least you can prepare. The camera doesn't really tend to give the elevation the right perspective but this one was a fairly moderate 2000 feet of ascent. You could say this hike was going back to my roots with a solo hike with no one for miles around. I think the best bit of the hike was dropping down into those old ruined peat huts with the Haweswater Reservoir view behind them. Those rock piles must have taken some building and some patience, no doubt. Thank you very much for taking time to watch. Have a great weekend 🙂👍 Paul

God to see you back out in the Lakes mate. Lovely area - always pretty quiet on those two. Good way to avoid the crowds. Everywhere is so wet!! And interesting to see the Snow. I always thought those structures up there are impressive. Congrats on the 150 mate? 👏👏👏. Not too far to go to complete the lot!! Love those views across Mardale from there. I reckon those Eastern fells are the best in the Lakes.

Hi Dave, it sure was great to be back tho I did love my trip to Germany and Austria. This was the day before Good Friday so pretty hermit friendly for a hike. Then again I hiked all over Easter and it was pretty quiet! There was still more than a smattering of snow on the higher fells. I was on 149 after this hike but add to that in the days after. I hope to do this hike again one day when it's sunny and blue skies. Those views into the Haweswater reservoir are outstanding. Thank you very much for watching. I hope you're both keeping well. Have a great week 🙂👍Paul

awesome you're back on the wainrights! this was a gorgeous hike, paul! can't believe it's been more than a year. love the 360s. old corpse road...quite a descriptive name. sorry for the technical issues! amazing how the peat huts are still there, but i wish the barrels were removed. any idea why were they left? you're right. those reservoir views are quite beautiful on a grey and overcast day. cheers! 🛴❤

@TheHikingHermit 4 месяца назад
Ah you have to go back quite a long way to remember my last Wainwright video but fear not I have some more to come. It's marked the old corpse road on the map as they used to carry the dead over the path around 300+ years ago. That's quite recent in the terms of UK history. My technical issues were with the mic and meant I couldn't go on camera without me sounding muffled. Me not being on camera could be a good thing 😂 All fixed for the next outing when I will show my mug shot 🙂 I'm not sure what the barrels were for or who left them but the views from there were pretty awesome even on moody day. I hope to go back one day to hike it again on a sunny day with blue skies. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week 🙂👍Paul

Superb hike this Paul not done this one! We do miss the Lakes not sure we’ll get chance to get over there much this year! The survey pillar was interesting! Lovely views! What mic did you say you use with the 12 as this isn’t bad at all you were really clear and only slight wind noise that would have been awful with the media mod! Have a great week 👍
@TheHikingHermit

This hike had some awesome views and sure will hope to do it again one day when it's nice and sunny. This was my first time in the Lakes for over a year myself! The mic I'm using is the media mod one with the GoPro 11. It performed better than I expected in the wind but it meant I couldn't go on camera because on the GoPro 11 it doesn't automatically go from front to back mic which means it sounds muffled when I'm on camera. The wireless mic I have been using said there was no charge in the receiver even tho I had charged it which is why I was using the media mod mic. Anyway fixed that for the next video, as I did 4 days of hiking in a row over Easter. I still have some wind noise on the wireless, even with a dead cat on the mic, but it was even more windy than here in parts. Maybe you can let me know what you think after the next video. Thank you very much for taking time to watch. Have a great week 👍🙂Paul

Nice to see you back in the fields and mountains, although that first summit barely feels like a summit. Hard to tell the highest point without that mark in the middle. After you mentioning it, I paid a bit more attention to it, and I agree, we are spoiled in Switzerland for hiking paths. There is really nothing available that I could spot, and the path is not alwazs as obvious to spot.
@TheHikingHermit

It was great to be back out there in the Lake District to be honest. Some of the summits are not even marked properly. You need to be able to read a map and do some navigation on these fells, especially if the cloud/clag comes in when you can barely see 6 feet in front of you. The next day I do another hike and make a school boy error with the map reading. In Scotland the mountains tend to be even more pathless. I have done 2 munros in Scotland one time where I was pretty much the only person on the mountains and it was pretty much pathless. It all adds to the "fun" and you sure gain experience from it 🙂

Hi Leroy, well it would certainly help tick the exercise box for you. The Lake District is about a 90 minute drive from where I live but it had been too long since I'd last been. It was great to be back there. After this trip I'm up to 156 out of the 214 Wainwrights. This was the first day of 4 days of back to back hiking there over Easter. Thanks for popping over to visit. Have a great weekend 👍🙂 Paul

Hi Paul..oops my comment disappeared.. I like pillars and ruins highlighted at the opening. Beautiful scenery along the trail to the summits i cannot believe there is some snow still left along the hike yahoo paul..I cannot hear YOU...10:52 wow The winds are strong. There are no obstacles around the summit to avoid the winds... Your new microphone ...???? The color of those lakes are like black coals...wow 12:16 roofless stone houses/ruins stand still for quite a while, I reckon. oh no..sprinkles again...although you must enjoy being alone..I did not see another souls in your film. For my curiosity, why do you call it walk? instead of hike or trek? Nay definition among them? I am very happy to see you on the trail as I think you feel free....
@TheHikingHermit
@TheHikingHermit 4 месяца назад
Hello Ms Kayak, the pillars and the ruins certainly made the hike more interesting. Oh and the views over the Haweswater reservoir. There was plenty of waterfalls on this one. This was the day before Good Friday and still smatterings of snow but still pretty cold on these summits with ice covering the pools of water. I had some technical issues with my microphone so on this it's using the one on the media mod. It's rubbish on the GoPro 11 because you have to select the front or back microphone on the media mod. That's why I didn't go on camera very much on this one. The lake is just reflecting the sky. With blue skies the lake would look be a lovely blue colour. The second video I ever did on YT will show it with blue skies as I hike at the other side of the reservoir. The roofless stone houses will be more than a century old no doubt. I think they're old peat huts. I enjoy hiking on my own and I barely saw a soul except at the car park. The main reason I called it a walk is because "branstree and selside pike walk" is a RU-vid keyword for searching. I tend to get most of my views from search 🙂 Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week 🙂👍Paul
