What’s the movie Braveheart about?
Braveheart, directed by Mel Gibson, in a richly detailed, Academy Award-winning saga of fierce combat, tender love and the will to risk it all for freedom. In an emotionally charged performance, Gibson is William Wallace, a bold Scotsman who uses the steel of his sword and the fire of his intellect to rally his countrymen to liberation from the English occupation of Scotland. Winner of five Oscars including Best Picture of 1995, Best Director (Gibson), Best Cinematography, Best Makeup and Best Sound Effects Editing "Braveheart" is "the most sumptuous and involving historical epic since 'Lawrence of Arabia'" (Rod Lurie, Los Angeles Magazine).

Three things: 1) Mel could really shoot violence scenes 2)James Cosmo was damn good in that film. But then again, he always is 3)James Horner made a powerful soundtrack.. How i greatly miss him. Rest in peace, you wonderful artist..
@Elcore

Agreed on point 1; the film is shite for many reasons, but the shots and editing on the violence scenes have few rivals. Not sure how much of that is Mel.
@vardellsfolly5200
@vardellsfolly5200 2 года назад
@@Elcore I am sorry but the argument: ''the film is shite for many reasons'' is completely invalid since the greatest majority of the cinema critics plus almost all the viewers deemed it a very good film. And then you have the 5 Oscars, i the good ol' times, when the committee gave them for art purposes and not for political agendas.. But then again, you could be referring to it's great historical inaccuracies-and if you do, you missed the point. The film was meant to entertain you, not to teach you. If you were looking for what actually happened.. you know.. you can always read a history book. My country's ancient history is frequently raped by Hollywood, and Europe, too. This is art, not history, i am afraid..
@Elcore
@Elcore 2 года назад
@@vardellsfolly5200 Sorry to disappoint you but there was not a time in history when the Oscars weren't rigged. And I was agreeing with you that it's a film with really good things about it - it's one of the best in terms of action scene editing! It's also got plenty about it that is just plain awful (in terms of a story or a drama, not even talking about historical accuracy).
@vardellsfolly5200
@vardellsfolly5200 2 года назад
@@Elcore Actually, you did not disappoint at all. I passionately adore the art of film-making. I know that the greatest majority of awards, if not all different awards, are quite often ''rigged'', as you put it. However, this by no means implies that in all circumstances are manipulative. And when it comes to the story, or drama, well. I respect your opinion.. but it is just that. I tend to trust another greatest majority, than of film critics and movie experts,when it comes to quality.. Now, i would never characterize BraveHeart as ''plain awful'' but it was certainly NOT ''The Remains of the Day'' which was nearly a masterpiece..

I would really love for him to make movies similar to the movies he did in his younger years, just using younger actors obviously. Like another revolution movie, with the same tone as the Patriot? Come on who wouldn’t want that. In fact Mel could go through his whole career and just direct movies with similar plots and settings as the movies he did in his younger years, and I bet it’d KILL.

@@Hirnlego999 Not really concerned with the bandwagon trend of people complaining about historical fiction not being historically accurate. I can direct you to amazon where you'll find hundreds of thousands of historical fiction books to criticize. Although, you'll probably end up looking foolish for critiquing fiction for its historical inaccuracies. Is the concept of historical fiction wholly foreign to you? Do you lack the ability to enjoy fiction for its laxness on accuracies and focus on entertainment and enjoyment, only allowing yourself to be satisfied with textbook documentaries? Or is this a part of the bandwagon train of regurgitation beginning with "akkually itz nut histowicaly ackuate"? I'm willing to bet it's the latter.

@DavidEllis94
@DavidEllis94 Год назад
@@lesenculinario6133 More like 6 pounds, really (5.95 technically), if you're referring to the famed Wallace sword. That's assuming the sword was, actually, the same used by William Wallace and assuming that sword was, in the 1290s, still the same large type and hadn't been reworked into a larger type later on. Mind you, he's not using his iconic claymore in this scene, and even if he was I still doubt it would cut clean through an entire leg and chausses of iron mail. It certainly wouldn't cut through this anachronistic style of armor the English wear in the film.

Best takeaway from this scene is the filming commitment to authentic battling results like how the soldier who got hit in chest with thrown sword dropped down in pain or soldier who was hit with thrown spear didn't automatically die... too many melee war movies make it appear as if one hit form a weapon instantly kills which is mostly a ridiculous expectation.
