Some very interesting curiosities for the ones that don't know: - Guardiola said that the Brazi'ls 1982 team was his inspiration to define his style of game. You can notice that a lot of the passes you see in the video are first touched, something we saw again in Guardiola's Barcelona. Definitely, something revolutionary for the time. - Socrates was the first player to ever use the back heel pass intentionally (you can see a lot of "advanced for the time" passes in this video - the LB of that team, was right footed - Junior. Of course, he also could use the left foot, but he always played on the left side - the bench was as good as the starters. Players like Roberto Dinamite, Dirceu, Batista, Paulo Isidoro would constantly enter the games - No team in the world is unanimous and this team had 2 players that the crowd and press did not trust entirely, such as the rest of the team - The GK Waldir Peres and the Striker Serginho. However, as Brazil would win every game, the crowd would tolerate those 2 in the main squad and Tele Santana (Brazil's coach at the time) was nationally beloved. - Cerezo missed a very silly pass in the game against Italy that resulted in the Italians' goal. For a long time, he was considered the "one to blame". - In that time, the National Teams had more time to train together. Most of Brazil players were playing in Brazil National League. Therefore, the comradely and team chemistry were very good. - Many say that after that WC, the football changed. The "defensive" minded coaches started to gain the market and this probably only changed after Guardiola's Barcelona. Cheers!
As a young lad growing up in the 1980s, id always loved watching football , ...but the one team that remains a everlasting treasured memory of those times, was that truly mesmerizing Brazil side of 1982,...they were playing football you only see in your dreams, ...very skilled silky attacking football, they simply blew me away....the goals , and their brilliant team was simply breathtaking, I'd never seen a team play like this before,...and some 38 years later, I've sti!l not,...to me they remain the greatest team I've ever had the pleasure to watch, ...and the finest never to win the World Cup🏆......but in my eyes they will always be champions....incredible Team
The Brazil team of the early 1980s played champagne football the like which will never be seen again.Easily the greatest international football team of all time.Their football was pure art.
Yes indeed, if you want to watch the art of soccer, then watch Brazil world cup team 1982, even Pep Guadiolla admired this team, think copied his tactics from Telle Santana
shold have won, do you live in fantasy land they got beat by a better team who were a team not a bunch of individuals its about time people give Italy the credit they deseve
@@ozzispurs8461 Italy 1982 wasn't a great team, it's just Paolo Rossi was on his day. Watch the full match to better understand who played the better game, the briliant Quadrado Magico Eder, Falcao, Zico, and Socrates played out of this world football in that game, but luck wasn't on their side. Brazil had a bad striker, Serginho that is! If it was Careca he'd finish all those chances that Serginho had.
On the contrary, Brazil 1982 play like the best club sides do today. Creating triangles of possession, fluid interchange of position to drag defenders out of position, fullbacks overlapping to create overloads out wide and a centre-forward who was used more as a forward pivot than a penalty box poacher. This team was about twenty five years ahead of their time. With a better goalkeeper, they might have won the damn tournament.
@@souradeepsengupta95 it was said the manager fell out with Leao who was a more senior keeper and was the team Captain in 78. The team believed he should he been first choice but the manager had his way because he wanted an outfield leader.
I am from the Netherlands and have experienced 74 and 78 finals but the magic of this team for me was outside this world pure ball controll highest level
Verdade, @m00lenaar, verdade!

If you notice carefully you will realize ALL those great Brazillian teams had at least 7 black players. Where are Brazil,s black players now. France won the last cup with 10 black mlm players. England got to the semi finals with 8 black players. You get my point. I could go on and on

This is just a taste of what we used to see back in the day in Brasil. And who grew up in the city of Rio de Janeiro on the 60s, 70s, 80s, saw it every Sunday, at Maracanã with over 150.000, 160.000 people. Good old days. Great video.
No Morumbi, no Mineirão, no Beira-Rio.
Well said, seems these days football is less fun to watch no freedom of expression on the field just so calculated and robotic now plus these Instagram players play with no soul like the legends of old barring a few of them.
This was the Second Greatest team in the History of Soccer! It was known as the Brasilian legend Of 1982!🙏 Unfortunately they NEVER WON A WORLD CUP! They were eventually stopped by Italys Paulo Rossi. Italy went on to become the eventual champions. However The unforgetful skills and playmaking of this great team are brilliant! Point to note here that they didn't win it from 1970 all the way to 1994. PURE SAMBA SOCCER! 👌
You are right, one of the best team Brazil ever asseemble. I still remember the super Junior, lovely player. I wish to visit this great footballingn nation one day. I love you Brazilian from Nigeria. I am a Brazilian when Brazil is playing other country, but a Nigerian, when Nigeria is playing Brazil. Love you Brazil. Cheers
Great comment - I love to see Argentinians who appreciate Brazilian football and Brazilians (and Englishmen) who love Argentinian football and Maradona!
@@user-rt5br1zi3u Their real Stricker was supposed to be Reinaldo but unfortunately for Brazil he got an injury before the World Cup.That is why they settled for Serginho.
First heartbreak 💔 .... they are my favourite set of Brazilian footballers of all time ... sad to see them lose in the finals 😢 ... but cherish all the skills and special moments ...
Most teams past/present had usually one player that was/is an artist. Win/lose I watch this team because all in that team made it a magical experience to watch them play.
Me too. The best team ever that didn't win what they deserved. Too bad Brazil didn't have good goalkeepers those days. Greets from Holland to @LL the early Brazil soccer fans.
Where are those boys who argue that today soccer is of very high level compared to the past .Watch carefully this video and you 'll realize that you are in illusion .Mundial ESPANA 1982 was the first world cup I watched .Till 2018 , I have in total watched 10 world cups .Even if they were not lucky to win a world cup , the Brazilian team of 1982 was the best I have ever watched at a world cup .
Mbaku Nkasa same for me. I was 9 years old back then andit was the first WC I watched. Still remember the clashes between Italy, Argentina and Brasil. Also the semi final between Germany and France, what a thriller. Brasil 82 was a real eyecatcher and still one of my favourite teams ever. As a Dutch guy I know what is is to play the game with such a delight touch and joy and to forget to win the worldcup. Holland 1974 did the same. Perhaps 2 of the greatest teams ever that failed to win the cup
Brazil in the 80s were definitely way ahead of their time. But it is unfair to compare eras that are 4 decades apart. Modern football is dictated by tactics and very detailed game plans. Defenders' positions are coached to inches, which means half of these goals wouldn't have happened in the modern game if they were to play a modern top team. Id agree totally If you refer 'high level' as in more entertaining football. But sadly football has moved on from individualism since the early 2000s. There is simply too much money involved for a club to risk on individual brilliance. so it made sense for academies to coach robots and systematic plays. Thus, players can be easily replaced cuz those who made it to the top will have similar attributes.
@Mbaku Nkasa Agreed, the ‘82 Brazil side commanded the footballl pitch. Their confidence and charisma, Zico, Falcao, Eder, to name a few, led by the regal figure of Socrates was the greatest football team of all time. Period.
Italy was the champion of the cup fifa 1982, had a great team this and undeniable. That Brazilian team something extraordinary, a magic football. Ball control, passes, skill, tactical and technical set. There are teams that did not win more were fantastic. Congratulations to Italy that won but the football lost with the defeat of this team. When a team manages to play as an orchestra it leaves the seed for the next generations, the clearest sound is only possible with the victory then the defeat of this Brazil, made only more of the same arise. The magic put in a certain plan and the soccer became burrocratic even for Brazil. The best Brazil legends 1982!
Just remember that defence wins matches and this team had a poor defence and ordinary goalkeeper. Everyone is bamboozled by all the fancy skills of individuals but the World Cup in 82 showed them to be defensively inferior against the skill of Italy.
Underrated video. These are the times up to the early 2000s when football was really fun to watch, so much freedom and expression on the field, not like these Instagram players of today these guys back then played with all their soul not just for money or fame, football at it's purest.
The featherlite touches were just magnificent. The little turns and flicks that all of a sudden opened up the entire pitch. The outrageous confidence bordering on insouciance. Yet, like my other favourite team The Nethelands '74, they didn't win. That is the beauty and tragedy of football. But the memory of these teams will live forever, and inspire us always, long after we have forgotten about Italy '82 or West Germany '74
Yes, sure: players like Beckenbauer, Müller, Breitner or Zoff, Conti, Rossi and Tardelli are completely and deservedly forgotten by now... 🙄 Total nonsense, of course!
INOLVIDABLE
YO VI TODOS LOS PARTIDOS DE BRASIL DE ESE MUNDIAL, TENIA 14 AÑOS; PARA MI LA MEJOR SELECCION DE CUALQUIER MUNDIAL DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS, AUNQUE NO HAYAN SIDO CAMPEONES PERO ESOS CINCO PARTIDOS ME LOS LLEVO EN MI MEMORIA Y HASTA LA TUMBA....TRATO CUANDO JUEGO EL JUGAR ASI DE BONITO, UNAS VECES SALEN LAS JUGADAS Y OTRAS NO, Y AL TERMINO DEL PARTIDO SIEMPRE HE TENIDO ESA SATISFACCION DE VER EN MIS COMPAÑEROS QUE SE DIVIRTIERON JUGANDO AL VERDADERO FUTBOL SE GANE, EMPATE O PIERDA....OTRA SATISFACCION ES DE QUE JUGANDO EN EL EQUIPO DE MI HIJO, SALIMOS CAMPEONES...….YO ERA EL UNICO RUCO EN MIS 40s Y MI HIJO Y SUS AMIGOS ABAJO DE LOS 22. ¡¡¡¡¡VIVA EL JOGO BONITO!!!!!
My dad actually met Socrates in a bar. It was a arranged meeting and everything. Long story, but anyway. Socrates told him that playing with that Brazil squad were some of the happiest moments of his life and when they were knocked out they were extremely sad. Not just the fact that they were knocked out of the world cup, but the fact that they would never play in a team like that again.
Jogavam verdadeiro futebol arte. Zico, Falcão, Cerezo, Sócrates, Leandro, Éder, Oscar, Luizinho mereciam o título mundial, principalmente Tele Santana. A maior injustiça do futebol mundial.
Jesus Christ that starting lineup is absolutely insane, 9 of the 11 would be top 3 players at their position if they were playing today, unfortunately their Keeper and striker were really subpar, but man that team was fucking stacked
This was one of the most talented teams of all time. I remember them very well. They were amazing football players. That was also a very special world cup one I will allways remember
Tele Santana was a great coach but with two bad choices: the goalkeeper and Serginho Chulapa. Serginho was not in synchrony with the finesse, talent and improvisation of his teammates.
Meu Deus!!!
in 1981 and 82, prior to the WC, this team beat Germany in Berlin, France in Paris, England in Wembley, Spain and Portugal... they had won all their qualifying matches. Mozer, Junior, Leandro, Cerezo, Eder, Socrates, Falcao,Zico... holy the shit technique level was supreme, shame their 2 main strikers were hurt and they had to go with Serginho, who was a good player but not on that level
So pity they didn’t win the World Cup with this team. They were really the best Brazilian team ever. Everyone in the whole world loved this samba football. We never saw it anymore.
Sensational, wonderful; awesome, exciting, something from another world, a masterpiece , a tribute to good taste and exquisite, simply there are no words....
This team played the most beautiful football that a national football team have ever played in the history of the World Cup. Second in my list is Brazil 1970, and third Holland 1974 and 1978. Unfortunately Brazil did not win the 1982 World Cup, but they made history as a football team and that is why after 36 years they are still revered . My heart sunk on the day they lost and I still feel nostalgia for such a wonderful team that even with such a bad goalkeeper achieved what no other national football since then has been able to replicate: to play beautiful art football. As another video on RU-vid about this team put it: that was the day that beautiful football died.
