One thing I would recommend on saddle taps is, once you THINK you have successfully brazed on the saddle, you pressure test it PRIOR to piercing the line. If you find you h@ve a leak and the line was pierced, you’re screwed. I do mine with soft solder after having one unable to pierce the braze that was a bit too hard for the stem. If you make your own bubbles, use dawn and glycerin from the drug store. Glycerin is what makes the bubbles grow without breaking for the children toy bubbles. For very stay leaks I use simple green like around heads or service valves. The only caution is simple green will make your H10 react as if a leak, as will 409...

Great video Raleigh, lots of good tips. I see in a past comments you mentioned a nitrogen purge is optional in small systems. I try to always use nitrogen because without nitrogen I'm so worried about residue flaking off the copper tubing walls and clogging my cap tube. Has this ever happened to you??

Do you have any videos showing how a small diameter line is brazed perpendicular, without fittings, into a larger line? (for adding sensors etc)....

Raleigh... Never worked on a Refrigerator before but decided to tackle changing the Compressor on my Kenmore Elite...Stopped Cooling. Welded in the New Compressor and Filter/Dryer...pretty proud of myself at this point! Vacuumed out the system and let it set for 24 hours... held a Vacuum... even prouder still!! Put some R134A Refrigerant in but the system refused to get even a little bit cold!!!! System would only come out of Negative to 10!?!? What did I do wrong?

I'm getting ready to do the same as you on my kenmore. Did you solve the problem? If you used the "new" type compressor fls075lana you need to reprogram the control board. Any tips you can give me? Thanks.

Awesome video. I don't have ascetalin tortch, so hoping propane torch works... I hope you finished conecting that drier filter up? I have a Fridgidaire electrolux and need to do what you've just done. Then, hook it up, flush the system and refill. I'm guessing? Really need some help! Can't afford repairman, and don't have a vacuumed pump. Not sure what to do? Your video was informative and well done. Appreciate ya!! 🙂

Why in hells manger do no appliance techs flow nitrogen to braze and pressure test? You have to know you are creating flakey copper corrosion products inside where you braze that can plug up cap tubes and introduce abrasive contaminants to oil. Also wet rags work just fine to isolate heat you dont need any fancy stuff. You also should be cleaning your copper with sand paper prior to cutting tubing or parts new or not.

How could a clean, inert gas cause copper corrosion? It's required in HVAC SYSTEMS.

@@Jake-by9ly if you dont glow N2 during brazing it creates flakey shit inside the copper tubing all hvac people flow N2 when brazing.

I have a small crack in the liquid line at the bend just above the compressor. tight spot, wondering if I should use 15% or higher and also a jewelers torch so I can avoid over heating / damaging the compressor? Did this happen because the 3 compressor anchor bolts were tightened down too much causing too much vibration on the liquid line.

I bought a new Compressor for my Kenmore Elite Refrigerator and I am going to Change it myself. Question...will a Bernzomatic Torch with MAAP Gas Canister do the job? Or is Oxy Acetylene necessary?

Raleigh...Well...it looks like my not giving up on the First-Time-Ever Refrigerator Repair is paying off Dividends in the form of a Repaired Unit! Freezer Temp started at +69 degrees...it is now +23 degrees. There were 3 issues that I encountered after getting the Compressor and Filter/Dryer Welded In: 1.) The Compressor would not Run. Turns out, the Male Pins on the Compressor itself are 180 degrees from the Old to the New. Fix...Rotate the Female Plug so that the two Power Pins engage leaving one unused Male Pin floating in mid air. Hoakey...yeah but it works. I'll call Sears Parts Direct & see if they have a proper Harness. 2.) One of my Welds at the Compressor/Condenser Joint let go after 24 hours. Fix...Reweld Joint and this time use a Mirror to Inspect the backside of the Weld. 3.) System would not come up out of Vacuum all the way with R134A Refrigerant installed thus unit would not get Cold. Fix...Cut Capillary Tube at Filter/Dryer and Inspect. Found Silver Solder Wicked up to end of Capillary Tube and Welded off Opening. Unweld joint and Reweld with Capillary Tube further into Filter/Dryer...not too far though. Pulled a Vacuum yesterday and let it set overnight...no Leaks. Charge the System with Refrigerant.

gday, instead of squeezing the tubing around the smaller one risking collapsing it, why not use appropriate size copper wire or small screw driver etc to set the size of the bigger tube, then slide the smaller one in.
