I’ll be 65 this year, And am still listening to Bread and all the same music from back in the day. And still own , The Best Of Bread CD .

I lost my wife 15 summers ago, and this song is one we loved to listen to together......so now I'm all in tears......for the umpteenth zillionth time.

My wife and I were married in 1975 and this song was sung at our wedding.

David Gates and Bread were definitely a big part of the soundtrack of the lives of those of us becoming "grown ups" in the 70's! And I think maybe the word you are looking for to describe the emotions some of their music evokes is "wistful" but also hopeful! I thoroughly enjoy watching your reaction videos and look forward to seeing more!

I graduated high school in 71 and this was my favorite Bread song. I would put the album on my stereo at night and fall asleep to them. I wished to find someone who felt like that about me

My favorite song by Bread, has to be 'Diary'. You can just feel what the singer is going through. Beautiful ballad.

I can't tell you how many hours I spent learning the guitar part for this. What a timeless classic.

The quivering guitar sound was done by playing an electric guitar through a synthesizer. Gates said it took him about an hour and a half to finish the song. It had an extra verse that he left off the finished product. He said that he immediately knew he had something special.

That song always reminds me of my late wife, it makes me miss her..

I'm 58. This song has been one of my favorites since the early 1970s. I was probably 7 or 8 when I first heard this song. Now, he's a cattle rancher in Montana.

This was always my favorite song they did. I always wated a love like that and finally found it. My husband passed 17 months ago and I wish I could have flown away with him.

'Guitar Man' is a great one also! But I really loved this Band growing up back in those days!

Next it has to be Everything I own". It's another love song but not your typical love song because it's written about his father after he passed away. I guarantee you will like it or my money back🤔😊

In the UK we had a Group called Ultravox. They had an amazing hits, starting with a song called Vienna. The lead singer Midge Ure later had a hit with a song called "If I was". I am sure you will love both the group and Midge the sound they made will be right down your street.

I was a young teen when Bread came onto the scene. I spent hours in my room listening to Bread and other songs of the time of course but my gosh, when I saw the 45 spinning on the turntable, I was reminded me of the record label..... You are right abt the 2nd phrase of the song, Helen of Troy. But the 1st phrase was abt the Mona Lisa painting, the third was time travel. He writes his songs so poetic. Where you can hear that the ending word of a phrase have the same sound of the next ending word phrase. A good technic in song writing & singing.😊😊😊

I'm having a wonderful time this evening listening to you two. Olivia Newton John does this song on the Dean Martin TV show 1972.Dean was very true gentleman. She was to young for him to chase after.

Oh I haven’t listened to this song in years. I’ve just re- arranged all my 70s Vinyl LP. Loved this song and the whole album 💞

In 1963 Beverly and her family moved in across the street from me. We were both 4 yrs old. In just a short time we were inseparable. In 1983 we were married. I sang this song to her at our wedding. Two years later we had twin girls Katie and Kerry. In 1987 I again sang this song to her at her funeral. She was killed by a DRUNK DRIVER on her way home the grocery store. My life has never been the same...

While Bread is most-well-known for their ballads, Bread could rock out. I have the album "The Best of Bread" on vinyl and the first side is full of these beautiful ballads, side 2 has some more rockers. You should listen to "Mother Freedom" for their other sound. Also, the ballad "Everything I Own" was a song to his father who had passed away before writing the song. One of the sadder Bread Ballads is the song "Diary."

Eternal Love!

Not sure which Bread song(s) you've already reacted to, but please be sure that "Everything I Own" is included. I always thought it was a romantic love song, but recently I found out that it was written as a tribute and expression of love and gratitude to his father. However, I am not sure if his dad lived to hear it.

Please don't think I have gone off the deep end, but I get a little different feeling with this song. It is lovely, and there are definite romantic passages, but I always have the feeling of this as a memorial; kind of like spending every last moment with a loved one, until the end (or until "one by one the stars would all go out"). Thank you for reacting to this beautiful song. If you are looking for more Bread, "Everything I Own" is one of my favorites. David wrote it as a tribute to his father.

When I was young, this song was "cheesy" to me... how I love it nowadays!

I had just gone active service when album came out. I always thought the songs were sad and lonely. They still give me that distant empty feeling.

I love that it doesn't follow the common format of verse, chorus, verse, chorus. It is just one long line throughout.

What can you say the Music of Bread is beautiful and David Gates takes it to another level!

'Lost Without Your Love', 'Aubrey' and 'Look What You've Done' are other great songs of theirs.

Good music great in concert

Most of their tunes were slow, ballad, love songs. They did a few up tempo songs, a couple you should listen to. "Mother Freedom" and "Down on my Knees". Both great tunes

If mom wants to hear a sad love song, I would love to see your reaction to "Diary".

I love these mellow songs by Ya'll. They were part of my high school years. However, you must hear the other side too. Led Zepplin's "Lemon Song" or Doors "The End" will open new doors, at least to the younger generation. Love your reactions. Thanks.

You should also give Ambrosia a listen. David Pack has an awesome voice, even now.

The songwriters of this era knew all about creating romantic songs, not something you hear much in contemporary music. David Gates does have a superb voice and a great range, he makes it appear effortless to slide so smoothly into those high falsetto parts. I'd recommend 'Everything I own' or 'Baby, I'm a want you' next, they both have a similar beautiful romantic sentiment to 'If'. For sad songs try 'The guitar man' and 'Diary'. BTW when you say 'the instrumentals' I think you just mean 'instruments'. I hear so many folks on reaction channels misusing this term. An instrumental is really a section of music with no lyrics at all, either the whole piece could be an instrumental, or a short section (usually somewhere in the middle of a song) which may feature a solo or a different melody to the rest of the song could be referred to as the instrumental, but as long as there are some vocals it is not an 'Instrumental' and rarely a plural unless the song has multiple breaks.

Next one needs to be "Diary" by Bread.

Bread was awesome , along with Barry Manilow , my favorites from the 70's. I would enjoy a Barry Manilow reaction, there is an awesome live performance of "Trying to get the Feeling again" on you tube.

There is such a treasure trove of music from David Gates: Everything I Own, Aubrey, Baby I’m a Want You, and the list goes on.

It's funny...when it came out, I really hated it...but over the years I came to enjoy it What happens when you get older. If you want to hear them rock out, listen to "Mother Freedom" and "Let Your Love Go."

Bread disbanded at the end of their run, and at least one of the group has passed. It's nice to play the music now, but it means more when you bought record album, and heard the music on the radio. I would not trade the period I grew up for anytime since.
