So, I started a Byleth solo run a while back. I was planning to go SS as my route. I was running Edelgard as my adjutant so she could gain lance/flying experience (to make it easier to avoid combat). For some reason, she just decided that she wanted to be mage though, since she gained a point in magic EVERY. SINGLE. LEVEL. With no boosters, her magic was higher than her strength. So I said "screw the solo", went CF, and made her a Dark Flier and she just became a monster. Not optimal, sure, but it was a ton of fun.

I would like to point out two further things: -With Armored Knight / Fortress Knight certifications it's very feasible to prt stack Edelgard even outside of those classes due to her higher authority rank (Empire Knights > Knights of Seiros as a C rank bat btw), equipping shields (later on for example Aegis Shield without backfire), class base defense and early Weight -3. Like early game an iron shield with Empire Knights makes her hella tanky. -Swords on Edelgard. I've gone on a track record of saying swords are bad but that advice mainly holds true later on, once chapter 5 hits. In the stretch before, for enemy phase it's more optimal to equip swords due to lower weight and superior accuracy due to low axe prowess not showcasing the hit difference of the two prowesses yet, no forging to augment hit rate / weight and +hit battalions not being in play. So while she shouldn't really tutor them, keeping that Sword Prowess 1 on her and using Iron/Training swords for EP is a good play for ch 1-4.

Emperor could have been so much better if they gave her 6 movement and the ability to use magic in the class - she's top 4 for magic growth, the black eagles are the magic focussed house and she even has a decent spell list, also Dimitri's should have been a horse class so the 3 movement skills were represented across the 3 leaders but that's another story. Also I really wish we still got Malig Knight because she'd be a prime candidate (along side other units like Annette) - especially since Dark Flier Edelgard on hard was very fun
This is an amazingly helpful video! Edelgard is a super fun character to analyze. One thing that I had a gripe with is at 10:32 where you talk about getting wrath on her as an option. I think this is a big mistake because she gets the crest that heals around the time you get her to level 20 (unless you grinded aux battles for 5 lifetimes). But maybe I'm just being dumb and over looking something IDK. This is an amazing video over all though! Peace and love :)

You are absolutely correct that the Crest of Flames can make health oriented builds less reliable, but I would say it is still an option that can be considered if you did want to go for EP Edelgard; especially since going in to warrior is such an easy requirement for Edelgard, and by this point you can have the Knowledge Gem and the Saint Cethleann Statue boost for Class Mastery, so you can fly through that to pick it up. Something I neglected to mention - entirely my own fault - is that Battalion Vantage can be very useful even without Wrath, and Edelgard can turn in to a relatively bulky unit, so using Wrath as a more supplementary tool in this regard can be useful, where you aren't as reliant as it being active as usual, but can take advantage of it when it is. I made her a mage my second time around. I was shocked to see that she still had very high strength along with magic. She can take on any enemy regardless of RES or DEF.
Going through the compilation because of Ashe but finding your content analysis to be very interesting X3 I will say I really wish she wasn’t so optimized, her magic list is actually very fascinating and is the only unit to take full advantage of all the Spells x2 skills Grimory has! I believe even for enemies, it’s like the class was built for her and yet, she has better options in an entirely different field Personally, I think I’m gonna focus on magic only when I use her, keep myself in check, dark flyer, and Valkyrie are both also very interesting, I think I’ll take transmute, but I am tempted between warlock, Grimory, & Valkyrie as her final class, they are also interesting!! 😖 While I do wish you explored this magical side, going to Magic does make her an entirely different character really so I can see why you didn’t talk much of it, we really got two Edelgard’s tbh Thank you for all the breakdowns!! I'd also add that mastering pegasus knight is ideal for Edelgard for one key reason: darting blow. On Maddening the enemies are so speedy, but the ability can help her double enemies in the early- to mid-game even when using axes. Whereas for comparison, Dimitri can't access the ability, and I find an El with darting blow is more likely to double than Dimitri on Maddening.
They really should have given Armored Lord and Emperor normal infantry movement instead of movement (basically give both of them +1 movement from what they already have) to make the class actually usable. As is she's so slow you can't even make use of Charm unless you want to have all your units hang back and wait for her to clunk across the battlefield, and she's a lord so she should be allowed to have an exclusive class that's stronger than the normal version. Plus she even says that she is able to move around armored like it's nothing. Heck they should have done the same for Dimitri, too. I get why they didn't want to make his exclusive class horseback for character reasons, he's on the run and pretty crazy, he'd probably accuse his horse of plotting against him and kill it anyway, but give him something. The man is canonically freakishly strong and can jump like 20 feet in the air, let those freakishly strong legs carry him at horse speeds
11:45 They should have made it that you can only move after using it. That it's essentially a canto skill but one that makes use of your full mobility. It would make Edelgard a lot more viable as an infantry unit still.

I never understood why Edelgard even has a relic weapon. Her relic weapon is linked to the crest of Seiros. And not to get too far into spoilers, but we know where these weapons come from/how they were made and about what happened to Seiros. To which there is no way a weapon like this could be crafted/exist. Can anyone explain it to me or is it just an oversight and the game made sure every crest has some kind of relic item or weapon??
@@JonoabboFE well its been a couple years so I dont feel bad bringing up the lore. The relic weapons were made from the bodies of the goddess' children and the sword of the creator from the goddess herself. But Seiros never died, shes Rhea. So without Seiros body how can they create a weapon linked to the crest of Seiros? Just bc? Once I discovered the backstory this relic never made any sense. But I guess we can stretch the lore somehow and say its an artificial hero relic (doesnt make sense) and is then also somehow linked to Seiros (makes even less sense if artificial). The only thing that would make sense if if Seiros somehow gave up part of her body. 20 min later. I just googled a lot bc now my curiosity has spiked and when commenting about Aymr I found this: "The strongest Hero's Relic in-game is Edelgard's personal Axe, Aymr. Technically, it's not actually a Hero's Relic - or, at least, the game doesn't consider it to be one. It's not known why this might be, but there are two major theories. First, Linhardt speculates in one conversation that humans have had lots of Heroes' Relics but that some have been lost to time - so Aymr might be one of these. The second theory is that Aymr was crafted by Those Who Slither In The Dark specifically for Edelgard after their experiment was successful and she bore two Crests." This would explain why hers is different and get around the lore that it was made from Seiors body. Thanks for indulging me in my curiosity and deep dive.
I honestly believe you people making these videos would make every single class a flyer. Sorry one of each type of flyer is more than enough for me and edelgard is not even a consideration for flyer to me
There's nothing wrong with playing with few fliers if you would prefer, but these videos are all about optimization and making maddening mode easier. This video even repeatedly mentions this as well as less than optimal builds for anyone interested in them. It's senseless to criticize recommending flying classes when they are simply very strong in this game and are some of the best advice for people looking for maddening assistance.
