45:12 a correction: Len actually did release an album after “You Can’t Stop The Bum Rush” (1999). Originally released in 2002 and reissued in 2005, “The Diary of the Madmen” is an unhinged mix of genres with an abundance of profanity and humor. The band would officially disband in 2008, but the sibling duo who started the project released a final album, “It’s Easy If You Try”, in 2012.
omg i love this video. I've been rewatching the movie on VHS a lot lately, and I really do think there's a lot to appreciate about the dub/mash-up of the three short films
I saw this with my sister on Christmas 2002 on video. There were bushfires (Lived in Australia) nearby that day and the sky was red with little bits of falling ash coming down. This movie brings me back to that somewhat apocalyptic Christmas day.
This is the most metal comment I’ve gotten so far, omg. Really cool memory tied to this movie, thanks for sharing! And hope you’re staying safe all these years later 💛
This is such a great documentary. You should make more! Your voice is nice to listen to, you keep things to facts with a little bit of opinions, I’m learning stuff I didn’t know, and it’s very well researched! Please give us more 😊
this was great! as someone that got to experience digimon in latin america, we were BLESSED with the superior unbutchered dubbed that stayed true to the japanese ver as well as kept the original sound track. We did however get the same edited digimon movie the US got but with spanish dub and it was great too, i will say as someone that lives in the states and seen both english and latin american dub, the english voice acting is cheesy and aimed for kids. That aside, if you havent, i HIGHLY recommend you watch season 1 in sub, its a completely different show, the music just hits so much better than the american dub. the intro slaps
This is a legit well made documentary on a film I loved as a kid and forgot about, only to connect with one of my own kids who came to love Digimon around the same age I did. Now I’m back in love the series myself. Great video, a lot of cool info I didn’t know. Fun Fact: as a Power Ranger fan, the some of the Digimon dub music that was used heavily first showed up in the first episodes of MMPR season 3, which was interestingly a crossover with Masked Rider, Saban’s short lived adaptation of Kamen Rider.
I saw this movie as a child and admittedly don't remember it well, but I had none of this context at the time. Thank you for all your hard work in making this! I appreciate Digimon so much more now 😊🌸
I... was not expecting a video this good XD, the digimon movie has such a unique vibe for what it does. I remember watching it on a bootleg dvd not knowing it existed and blew me away on how fun it is. Despite prefering the original movies, the USA version has a special place in my heart
Haha, thanks! Hoping to do a lot more of these types of videos :) That’s so cool to hear there were bootleg DVDs floating around. I’m insanely excited for the Discotek blu-rays coming out. I can definitely understand preferring the originals, and I think it mainly comes down to the type of comedy and atmosphere you’re more into. If witty dialogue and an action-oriented “Hollywood”style are more your thing, the American version is for you. If you like something slower paced and more focused on the complex themes, then the Japanese ones are for you.
This was a crazy good essay. I hope we get to see more from you in the future of things you’re passionate about. I’d love to hear what you might think of Digimon 02 The Beginning cause that seems like a fever dream when I watched it
awesome essay. I appreciated the bg on dubbing and specifically Saban. Also now I have to watch Revenge of Diaboromon. keep up the good work, and ngl I expected your channel to be really well established based on the quality of this.
This was the best video essay / retrospective I’ve watched in sooo long. Not a single dull moment, super well informed and researched. Your commentary and delivery were a pleasure to listen to. Absolutely amazing holy shit 😮💨🔥💯
I always viewed the music in hurricane touchdown as an allegory for Chocomon's deteriorating mental health as the virus takes over him more and more, the music being broken memories of the past akin to nostalgia trying to find his way back home to Wallace and Gummymon all culminating with "Forever friends" acting as the final nail of acceptance that its time to move on from the past while knowing that the relationship between partner and human will never truly change no matter how corrupted it becomes
Honestly never put it together that the whistle was like the kids' sense of childlike wonder. Solid video essay, hope to see more like this on the channel.
The Hosoda interview from the Digimon movie book is full of cool tidbits like that. He thought about some stuff super deeply, but Hikarigaoka and Odaiba were only picked as settings due to convenience. Now it’s this important spot for the fandom! And thanks, I’m really excited to deep dive into more stuff I grew up with! ✌️
Before I watch this video I just wanted to say, I’m your 100th subscriber! Congratulations! I loved the digimon movie growing up and I watched it for countless of times but nowadays people want to tarnish the movie now. No matter what this movie haves a soft place in my heart
I genuinely never leave comments on videos… ever… but I had to come here and say great work! I really enjoyed this 🥰 I love this movie so much and your video really does it justice. also please know that there being a supposed and very tentative link between digimon the movie and blue crush (another one of my fave films) has unearthed my own personal cinematic universe. subscribed and look forward to hopefully seeing more from your channel!
I havent even watched all the video yet, but just due to the fact you called it your favorite movie of all time means this is peak and you are the singular best youtuber to ever exist.
EJ this video was fantastic!! Ive seen this movie maybe twice? Or three times lol..but I wasnt privy to a lot of the behind-the-scenes goings on & it was so much fun to learn about from you! Digimon the movie is truly a gem of its time
They’ve always reminded me of those glass paperweights your mom had around the house for some reason. And then they were never even used for holding down paper!
The movie can be best described as good but somehow also so bad its good. This thing is epic in action and music and the first half is just the best ever. Love digimon and great video as well
I like, never comment but I wanted to say this is work comparable to million view essays I normally watch. You've done a great job and I'll be watching your output with great interest. It is crazy I'm only subscriber 53
I love the Digimon movie!!! In restrospect, I wish the battles were a bit longer, especially the final battle with the armor mons, diggmon and Halsemon barely did anything
Thank you for mentioning that a proper media analysis shouldn't include a long synopsis. Pretty annoying youtube trope lol. Thanks for the video, I love this movie
Do you want to hear a positive of this movie that isn't just charm or music? The computer virus they introduced as an overarching villain is somehow both creepy and intimidating at the same time when usually, a character ment to be scary can only do one or the other. The Diaboromon line is still one of my favorite Digimon lines to this day because of how much it scared me as a kid! I even watched Our War Game to compare and the mute rendition of Diaboromon in that version isn't anywhere close as scary!
I actually did say I liked it! It’s one of the jokes I didn’t catch when I was younger, because of the messiness of the 3rd part, but now it makes me chuckle whenever it comes to mind.
Watching 7 extra movies for a short mention was definitely outside of the scope of this project. I was super excited when tri got announced cause I'm a fan of the character designer, but I think if my attention wasn't captured in the first 3 hours it probably won't be for the rest of it. I'll give them a TRI again one of these days :)
It is INSANE how little views this has as a video thats born out of passion for a movie that got a bum rap. Wonderful work, reminds me of hazel @afewbruises. :)
So you’re telling me the exact same week I decide to get hyper fixated on the digimon movie, and after watching two mid videos about it ranging from hating it to loving it, I get recommended an HOUR LONG video essay that is the most comprehensive piece of information I’ve ever seen on this movie from a channel with less than 50 subscribers?? 🫶 makes me so happy someone else also has been watching this movie in 480 p on RU-vid all these years. I grew up a Pokémon kid but I loved this movie so much and still have my vhs sleeve but the movie inside is missing
I am so happy this synced up with your hyperfixation 😂 and I appreciate the compliment! The low quality RU-vid video was awesome compared to the days of watching an entire anime in 3-6 parts with a giant border around it haha. I hope you find the tape for the sleeve one day, don’t lose hope! 🫶
