@@Ilovegirlfights2 So what your saying is that in order to build my 2.4 I would get the Turbo kit form ZZP and then get it tuned by Hahn Racecraft? I guess ZZP does only offer a PCM tune for the 2.2 & 2.4 guys.
Love to hear you guys show off what you can do on a Saabs LK9 b207r. I have a XWD aero Saab 9-3 6 speed manual. Definitely looks foam casting. Except for the multiple suspensions setups I’ve tried I had to have so many of my upgrades shipped from Europe. AWD, manual and one of ZZP’s crate engine would be sick.
I would love to see you guys talk about the Buick Regal GS. I had a cobalt LSJ 2007 fun car. But now have the regal. My regal has zzp cold air intake zzp down and mid pipe. Tuned for 94 octane as I am in Windsor Ontario Canada. Running boost at a peak of 25psi with a hold of 21.82psi on boost. Next mod will be the zzp intercooler and charge pipes. Car should be close to the 400hp mark. But I would love to see a Buick done by zzp.
I just wanna know as much as the LE5 as I possibly can. I’m definitely gonna build an LSJ one day it’s been a goal for a long time but for now I build what I got.
Same, i am curious about the LE5 and its upgrade potential. I have a 2009 saturn sky base with a AEM intake and solo performance exhaust but i would like to see what else i can do with the engine.
Great insight guys! I really like your straight forward honesty. Rough number hp ? 07 lnf e85, billet cams, 57 turbo, ported head, intercooler, injectors, (for e85) all ZZP parts.
We just did a very similar build here in house on a customers LNF, but with a Z54; on that car we made 472whp. Depending on your boost I'd say you're about there, or more!
@@gbrunner24 I understand Tyler you like the Pontiac Solstice/ Saturn Sky. I thought I might give you a heads up( I don’t make anything off of this info) i work at a GM dealership and we got in a 2007 Saturn Redline with only 25k miles on it. I drove this thing and if I was in the market would purchase that thing. It was a blast to drive. Not trying to upsell anything, I just like to give people that appreciate certain vehicles a heads up before someone that doesn’t appreciate them as much buys it.
Very good info. I enjoy learning about my car and what it can do. Any chance of you guys dipping into Mopar stuff? I wanna put ZZP stuff in my wife's PT Cruiser. XD
@@brxttz I was thinking of the cobalt SS variants and said hhr but meant the cobalt because they are built on the same platform. Although I think an super charger version would have been pretty slick lol.
The LNF has a more efficient burn? The argument being that it underflows on a bench but still produces better HP? Did someone do an apples to apples on that with a motor at the same boost? efficiency of burn is typically an emissions component and not exactly something that denotes power. The timing and temperature of the charge and pressure should dictate power across the board. I'm not saying I don't believe you it just doesn't jive in my head and I wanted to see if someone had done tests you can point to. Thanks for making this.
Yes, keep the Saab LK9 on hush mode. That porous block bit has be wanting to keep the 09 cobalt sedan at a low to moderate power level. I'll be happy with the 3-325 mark on that one.
What i want to know is about the newer ecotechs. These only go up to 2010 while i have a 2011 2.4l ecotech LE9 engine and ikno their similar but would still be nice if they could include ALL the ecotechs
Has anyone or you guys figured out the timing chain failure issues on these engines and the oil consumption problems as well? I know that I have been seeing alot of those failures with these engines. But I know that they can be good engines. I'm possibly thinking of swapping the 2.4 or the 2.5 from the Cadillac ats from the junkyard maybe. But I'm hoping that some performance shops came upwith something to fix it. Or has GM fixed this issue and has possibly made better timing chain parts to fix that timing chain problem? Ok thanks and I'm hoping that someone will get back with me. Aloha 🤙🤙🤙🤙
How good is a stock equinox 2.4 direct injection naturally aspirated ecotec and could it be easily installed in a Suzuki SX4 FWD based AWD power train while keeping the AWD system intact ?
Got a Supra and now everyone’s telling me to not do anything to my lsj anymore. Kinda makes me upset that now nobody cares about my old friend the balt 😢
LSJ-T swap the Supra just to screw with them. JZ engines are great and all, but they're old news. If you're not making 1000+ then what's the point right? lol
Can the porous block issue on the LNF affect the external walls of the block? On my ‘08 Solstice with 30k miles I had the turbo oil lines/coolant lines replaced due to failure. When the dealership put the parts on after the install they noticed the engine was still leaking oil. They put it back on the lift and noticed a thumbtack sized hole on the external wall of the engine block, right side, almost mid engine height. It’s slightly above the catalytic converter on the right side of the engine. You can see right through to the internal parts. The engine still works and sounds completely normal when it’s running. Zero engine knock or other abnormal noises. I know this hole was definitely not there before getting the lines replaced. How the hell can a hole like this appear in the side of the block?? Is it possible to successfully spot repair it?
Hey guys I have a 2.5 ecotec in a 2016 Malibu lt. But I'm trying to figure out if I have a lcv or lkw. It has lcv decals on it but it has start stop option I can't find anything about the lcv having this option although it is a previous fleet car from Hawaii. Any help is appreciated if you can.
The engine itself and internal parts are still going to be L61, but since you have blower swapped the car many of the LSJ bolt ons will work for your car. Exhaust is the same across non factory turbo cars.
LE5 has displacement on it's side, but unfortunately we don't use them much anymore because of experiences in past. With boost/high rpm's the reluctor wheels like to shake themselves off the cranks.
@@gbrunner24 Thank you for the opinion, I have a 09 Malibu with the 2.4 and was wondering what can be done with the LE5 but since there’s bad experiences I’m sure that’s why you can’t find much of a market on them
@@igwhomps5853 The biggest downfall of the LE5 is the stock rods and pistons from the factory, those are only good to about 250wtq. The older models (05/06) have better rods, but most people who want to push the car need to immediately swap to forged internals. Unfortunately the Malibu doesn't get a ton of love just because it never had a performance model.
Tyler is 100 percent right on this. I'm supercharging my 07 Pontiac g5 gt and bought the zzp supercharger kit plus im adding their zzp dual pass kit, option b kit and cai along with the mid length header combo I bought from them in December. Like Tyler said these engines are fine on normal to moderate boost but not much past. If you are fine with that and just enjoy it being quick and fun you'll be fine. The lsj abd lnf is where you'll get big power from. And thankfully for me my car was made in oct 06 so I got the stronger internals but even with that 240 to 250 is max for me. Zzp knows these engines so im not going over that number because I want a still reliable fun car and not one sitting on the side of the road broken down.
@@chadoliver2966 I totally agree with what your saying, I never thought about going boosted on the LE5 but more of just little power adders that can make it have alittle more spice but nothing beyond that lol, I believe factory these LE5s have around 169 HP and 160 TQ (At least one my 09) and I also agree with Tyler these Malibus don’t get a lot of love due to that but it would be very fun to make a little quick but reliable car out of the LE5, if you guys have any opinion on what would be a great start for just basic little power adds I’m all ears!
The LSJ...GM didn't design it...SAAB did. GM stole it when they bought Saab.It was a turbo when Saab used it, and GM slapped a blower on it. Works great in my Ariel Atom.
I love ecotecs engine old Saturn have those engine the equinox have those engine they are crappy yeaaaaa if you don't have any idea how bring that wonderful engine Back to life but this time better that GM dealer i have before other 4 cylinder like on ford rangers or dodge neon all that cars 🤣🤣 but wen I have my first ecotec engine i was like dammmm this MDF engine rocks and beat a Honda engine one time on my Saturn any ways they use the engine in mud race etc and I will go up to 300hp that small engine yeaaaaa crappy maybe 🤔🤔🤔 but don't mess on a good one because you never know never know
Not quite. You would either have to swap in your LSJ crank or modify the reluctor wheel on the LDK crank, as well as plugging the turbo drain. Realistically other than that, yes you can use the Gen 3 short block.
@@ZZPerformanceChannel reluctor unimportant, I can work with any trigger pattern. And I'd most likely end up turbo. Just looking at short motor options, and if I could get a 2.4, or thereabouts, that would be preferable. Sounds like a potential option then
