I've been waiting for this for so long (since birth???). Love these breaking down the score. I know you don't like Hamilton but that's another show with nice recurring themes all over it.
I’m loving this series! Reminds me of Seth Rudetsky’s old deconstruction videos, but more grounded in music theory, which I appreciate and adore. Can’t wait for the next instalment!
I've dyed and give to heaven. I don't play piano but I play other instruments and do musical theater (started at 37!!) and I'm always deconstructing music!!
Omg this makes me so happy 🥰 I’ve learned to play this song for my a level exam, even went costumed like Elphaba, green and all. Then after a few years I forgot how to play it, cause I didn’t have a piano anymore...but now I’m relearning to do it and it makes me so happy. I was obsessed with the way the “somewhere over the rainbow” was incorporated when Elphie was so hopeful and innocent and later on I think it was defying gravity it was used again but in a darker way and then the words change from “unlimited” to “I’m limited” and you just know all is fucked, because she stopped believing in herself 🥺 Btw I looove your channel. Always makes me so happy to see you nerding about musicals 😍
The music theory is great but the lyrics are too! I love the use of foreshadowing such as ‘see me and scream’, ‘want nothing more till I die’ and ‘so happy I could melt’ all obvious choices. Also, there is the dramatic irony of when she meets the wizard he will ‘say I see who you truely are, a girl on whom I can rely’ plays of the fact that (Spoliers) Elphie is his daughter, which he doesn’t guess until she ‘dies’ and that he does not rely on her but instead betrays her to Maddam Morrible. Sorry that was long, I love this breakdown!
This is absolutely juicy!! This has finally given me the drive to pull out my old music theory notes and brush up. PLEASE do more! Any song, really. I just love this kinda insight to musical score, there's seriously not enough of it!
I really think it is an overlooked song. It has such a good variety and uses so many motifs, not to mention the symbolism and foreshadowing in the lyrics.
@@jacobthompson6051 I second this! Its my favorite song from the musical. The part where Glinda says "Bridges you've crossed..." is my absolute favorite.
I love this video! This is one of my favorite songs from the show, and it's so obvious how passionate and knowledgable you are about music just from watching your videos. Keep up the great work! :)
I think the comment section just wants Kevin to break down the entirety of Wicked at this point. 😂 I mean theres a reason it's like the gateway musical for so many kiddos. Its beautiful and intricate but still incredibly accessible
At 4:17, we really aren't in Cb major. It's Gb Major. I get that you're drawing the comparison between Cb and B and that's definitely there. But we're in Gb Major.
Please react to SIX the musical. It’s a new British musical about Henry the 8ths six wives and it’s done in like a pop concerty style. It’s really good!
you should a reaction to James Corden, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt doing multiple movie musical songs! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a_TvKH-qEJk.html
