The state constitution requires the government to provide a free, basic education…. So think of the governor in this case as being like a commissioner, you don’t really get to pick everything funded, but you are responsible for making sure it is ultimately funded.

Problem with you being half right in your post is that you make the public schools look bad when it’s the private schools that are actually dragging education down. You know like actually hiring teachers that are qualified to be teachers.

College prices got more expensive once government grants and guaranteed school loans got involved. Public schools generally pay more per child per year than private schools, for an objectively worse education. Not to mention, the Prussian system is only good for one thing, and it ain't education.

@CaduceusErin look, I don't know if what you're saying about college prices is true or not. But it doesn't add anything or refute anything in my comment, so it doesn't matter. This idea that private school is cheaper than public school on average is not true. The average per pupil cost of the state is higher than the out of pocket cost of parents at private school. When your children attend private school, you are paying it directly. When your children attend public school, they are funded indirectly through multiple sources, making your out of pocket costs less. Since it's funded through taxes, sending your child to private schools doesn't stop you from funding public schools. A portion of your taxes will always be diverted into them. Meaning in many ways, you'll be paying for a full tuition at private, and still, portions of the would-be public costs. Even more so, North Carolina hovers around 47th/50 in school funding. So, any problems with the quality of education I'd amediately look towards that figure. Which is comically bad. Lastly, you're still limited by location. Your child isn't going to the best private schools in your state. They'll go to the best one nearby, which might only be a choice between 2 or 3 private schools. This idea that education will be insanely better for all students is a cope. As more students flood into private education, schools will scramble for more teachers or allow classes to balloon, removing two large benefits of private school classrooms.

Money has far less to do with educational quality than good teachers. Most teachers aren't. The ones that aren't, should be replaced with a better option. You're also ignoring our abysmal educational model, which is the Prussian model. It was never meant for education. It's primary purpose is conformity, which has very little to do with education. When the parents want to CHOOSE their kids school they pay for that, and not the government school. So why should the government keep the money when the kids are not using the service?

Private = non-taxpayer funded. You don't get to point "your" tax dollars to a private school because private schools are, by definition, privately funded (ie by tuition). The erosion of pubic school funding is why we are having this discussion.
