Not an expert but my first thought is that they have the numbers, but won’t tell them as it opens the gates to another problem : 1) the astronomical amount of sexual assaults in prisons, by any gender, with details if they were commited by inmates or staff. 2) the fact that they have the numbers but did nothing to adress it. 3) that they won’t adress it because fixing this issue will lead to more regulation that might break the prison industry.

My question is why is she still holding that position? She was told a year ago to submit the information needed and she ignored it then. Her incompetence of doing her job should be dealt with instead of spanking her on the hand.

I say hold them in a cell in contempt until they can manage to find the answers. They can have a phone line that dials direct to their department only. Either that or dock their per day pay for each day that goes by without an answer. And then they can be fired for willful incompetence.

I'm conservative, but Ted Cruz is either grandstanding or really, really uniformed. Willacy unit in Raymondville was shut down because it was a mess and should've been closed years ago, and she's right, American prisons are nothing like Europe. Trans inmates almost always go to men's prisons, and if a woman gets assaulted or pregnant in an American prison, it's almost always prison guards.

Also, these committee show-offs engage in a technique whereby they ask the witness to compile a massive armload of documents in hopes that they miss one or fail to have a specific number that they didn’t know was being required of them. Then, when they don’t have a number ready in their minds, Ted Cruz can berate them and score contrived points with their base.
