Growing up in a tight-knit, musical family, Cissy was surrounded by the harmonies and rhythms that would shape her future career. Her parents, Nicholas and Delia Drinkard, were deeply involved in their local church, where music played a pivotal role.
Cissy was the youngest of eight children, and her siblings also showed a profound affinity for music, forming the cornerstone of the Drinkard Singers, a gospel group that included Cissy's brothers and sisters.
