Not just Xbox, but Microsoft as a whole. Their entire bussiness model is based on software subscriptions. Azure, Office, Xbox GP, soon Windows... you name it. Satya's vision for Microsoft is to make MS a "software services" company and they're making a ton of money because of that.

Hot take: So? I am a person that wants to play games. I am not a person loyal to a corporate entity nor am I loyal to a pile of plastic and silicon. Why it's worth it to me to own and XBox: It's a better built console than the PS5 (I own both). Day 1 on Game Pass (This is HUGE). I own hundreds of digital Xbox games. Backwards compatibility and Xbox have never tried to charge me for the same game twice (See: The Last of Us). I'm glad that other family members can purchase Indiana Jones on PS5 later down the road. It doesn't hurt me in the slightest. If Xbox sells their games to Sony players, that means more money for Xbox. Good for Xbox. I want them to succeed because I own a ton of games thru Xbox that I'd have to repurchase to play on another console. At some point the PS5 only people might start asking the question: "How come we have to pay extra @ full price for Sony Day 1 games even though we've got PS Ultimate?"
Games being multi platform is only a good thing for gamers. The console or platform of your choosing shouldn't hinder you from being able to enjoy all the great games the industry has to offer.
100%. But from my perspective, it's jealousy. Like it or not, playstation has amazing first party ip. They never miss. Xbox does. All the time. This game looked like the first actual GOOD exclusive in a long time, and now it isn't exclusive. There is no argument to be made that xbox has exclusive games... when playstation just keeps getting xbox games that could have been exclusive. I think gamepass is killing xbox. They have to shift their business strategy because gamepass doesn't make them enough money, and the xbox fanbase is too used to gamepass so they never buy any new games. Their own fanbase isn't making them money, so they had to shift to a new one that actually buys games...😅

I think this becomes their version of exclusivity. Game pass subscribers get the games for "free" and PlayStation users have to shell out $70 per game.

True, it's all about making money and gaining subs,. Nintendo dominate because the Switch is easy to take with you and has the most "exclusives", PS sell consoles but hardly sell enough games, so they're going to PC, Nintendo, soon mobile (making them 3rd party),. Xbox aren't selling enough consoles, but do have enough games to make money from and selling them on all platforms..The only one that doesn't need to do anything is Nintendo.

Xbox vs playstation is like two big parties going on at the same time and the games are like all your friends. One party has one group of friends you really like but so does the other. What party you go to is determined by what group of friends you will have the most fun with. Pc is like all those friends at one party that isnt till later in the year but is worth the wait.

I think the big reason people care is that if Xbox drops out of making consoles, then its gonna have a big impact on competition in the home gaming sphere. For consoles, it will only be Sony and Nintendo. The latter of whom has been playing their own game for 20 years. Sony will essentially stand alone, the only competition left being expensive computer setups that are scary/costly to maintain and upgrade. Many won't want to get a gaming computer, and will be stuck with playstation who won't have to worry about fair practice. Its a volatile position if it were to occur.

The rover upgrade for Starfield actually changes the game for me. I loved the exploration but hated running everywhere even when I got my stamina up, it was so boring that I had to stop playing the game.

Only kids are worrying about exclusive games… I don’t give a crap about exclusives, just release games on all platforms on day one, I wouldn’t care, as long as it’s released and available on my ecosystem. Indiana Jones game wouldn't sell enough copies or sell enough game passes to make its money back . I don't see any problem making it exclusive for a limited time only . They need to make money after spending Billions on studios .

Diminishing your own brand for short term profit is crazy. I’m genuinely leaning towards getting rid of my xbox at this point. At least give indie a year of exclusivity to breathe and bring value to the brand. If they would just keep making good exclusive games, people would see the value in getting into the xbox ecosystem🤦🏽♂️
The problem is if a new consumer is looking to buy a console, he choose xbox slightly because he knew that indiana jones is a xbox exclusive. Later he know that indiana jones will be coming to ps 5, suddenly he got buyer remorse because he should just buy a ps 5 instead!

Ive been an Xbox guy since November 15th, 2001 and I could care less what box the game is on. All i care about is being able to see that Microsoft Game Studios upon boot up and know that it is going to be a quality caliber gaming experience.
I've played both the series x, and the PS5. Literally cannot understand why the ps5 is even popular. The home screen interface is inferior, you can't play from extended storage devices, and the controllers seem to degrade faster.
I have both consoles, and the controller battery life is real issue I have with PS5. I can devote 1 controller to 1 Xbox and play for days. When I get warned my battery is low, I swap out rechargeable batteries and I'm good to go in seconds. On PS5, I have to have 2 controllers per console. I need to swap controllers in less than 8 hours because internal battery gets used up so fast. And PS5 only players seem to think that having built in rechargeable batteries is a win. I hate it. I much prefer being able to swap batteries out on the fly. OTOH, I do appreciate being able to add a second internal NVMe drive to the PS5 so easily.
@@martyk656Built-in rechargeables are mega ass now that the Stone Age is over and rechargeable AAs exist, the edge PlayStation controllers have is a suite of extra features which are what's eating through the battery, which wouldn't be such a problem if the batteries were swappable!

Companies have always made little or even lost money on console sales and made it up with game sales. Dropping games on multiple systems means more profit for Microsoft, and more games for us. No one loses.
Indiana Jones makes sense, everyone on xbox is going to play it with game pass and forget about it. Putting it on PS and charging full price is a good move.

There’s no one who can coherently tell me buying a $600 console that routinely misses out on gaming content, doesn’t have the best console performance, and doesn’t have compelling exclusive content makes any sense. Next system better allow Steam or I won’t be buying the next Xbox. And GamePass by itself isn’t good enough just yet to buy an Xbox.
This is actually good news, and a good direction we are heading towards in gaming. We have to get past the old days of console wars and enjoy the present. We aren't losing anything with games not being so exclusive anymore, we are actually gaining for once. The only real reason console wars existed imo is because we wanted to play with our friends ECT. Nowadays pretty much any game that can be played with friends is on all platforms and cross play. Now you can pick your hardware that fits YOU and play with your friends no matter what platform they are on. We really have to get past this exclusive thing and enjoy this new freedom.

Sony bought the rights to spider-man just like Disney bought Lucas films which includes starwars and Indiana Jones. Microsoft has 0 rights to the Indiana Jones IP except what's been outlined in there agreement contract with Disney to use the property. So Disney calls the shots with Indiana Jones just like Sony calls the shots with spider-man. You realize spirder-man almost wasn't in the avengers movies because Sony and Disney had disagreements.
I mean it makes sense to me, Xbox has games and they make money selling games, we can't just think "Oh because i have an Xbox, microsoft should only make games for me" like, what? Come on guys. They need to make money too yes you bought the console but you don't buy every game Xbox releases maybe there are fans of the games you don't buy on other consoles.
Its a great strategy for a timed exclusive with such a huge franchise like Indiana Jones. It's also not a typical core X-box player game as it's heavy on adventure and puzzle-solving. Many people like me will probably up getting a month of game pass to play it day one via cloud (with 4K GeForce Now probs) and then some may do that AND buy it later on PS5 sale, so that's some good revenue. The only conflict for me is that as much as day one appeals, I'd rather play with adaptive triggers, although I don't care to pay the extra to own it.
I personally don't care to be honest with you as long as I get to play these games on game pass if Halo goes over to PlayStation or gears of war it is not hurting me whatsoever
If anything, it helps xbox players when xbox is making more money from PS players to fund more games and hopefully not raise gamepass prices again, and again. I play primarily on Playstation but idk why anybody would be mad about xbox games going to PS
But it is hurting you. There isn't one highly anticipated or popular Sony exclusive ported to Xbox. Microsoft has been gas lighting its fan base for years and pushing the multi-platform bull and as a result, its console sales plumits. Xbox will be nothing but software in 2 years. They care more about Playstation gamers than their own base thats been loyal for decades. Its definitely not hurting Sony.
Now that it's also coming to their platform, I wonder if PlayStation 5 players will support 'Indiana Jones & the Circle of Life' as well as they did Hi-Fi Rush. 🙄

Honestly, the only people freaking out about this are the people who are mentally still stuck in the old console war era, it's not PS3 vs 360 anymore. Games being cross platform are a good thing, because it gets more eyes on the games, which promotes more games getting a shot at continuing.

I invested in xbox because it's North American, simple as that.. I never believed in exclusive games on any platform, it's actually a hindrance for companies to even have exclusive games. I just want full* backwards compatibility from here on out. All games ever available on an Xbox from any generation, available at any time.
The era of PS and Xbox exclusives is coming to and end imo. PC is super strong, stuff like PS plus and Gamepass services are good deals for those who want to play a lot on "a budget", physical games are getting less relevant by the minute, consoles are giving their last breath, cloud gaming, etc. In this scenario is better for them to just get more money by doing multi platform releases and focus on software. The market is more than ready for it. Nintendo is moving slowly in this advancements so their ips are super protected, making them able to work like we were in 2005 or something. Exclusives on Nintento sell consoles, plus there is plenty of physical support, no "gamepass" type of service, etc. If people didn't had turned their backs on physical media so fast, which would make services like gamepass less relevant, there would be a reason to sell consoles/exclusives. On the other hand, people are now able to play more games, which is good.
I think PlayStation and Xbox should do a game exchange of sorts. God of war on xbox, halo on ps5. Forza on ps5, spiderman on xbox etc. It shouldnt just be xbox giving playstation exclusive games. It makes no sense that way. They shouldnt give sony the upper hand just for a couple extra people to maybe buy the games on their platform
The fact of the matter is that Indiana jones wasn’t going to sell consoles. PlayStation people didn’t care about it, and the only reason Xbox people cared about it was because they thought it was going to be an exclusive. There wasn’t any hype around the game. It was going to be a flop if they didn’t put it on ps5. It probably still will be. At least this way it has a chance at making some money.
I gave up my Xbox series X and bought a gaming PC for the first time in years. I am never going to console gaming again. And I used the first console way back when, I'm 63. Old gamer, lol.
I played the exclusive PS5 games and that 60Fps, is cracked looking and I got it tested on three different TV where I noticed it locks out a lot the setting verse Xbox might get a blank screen and have to turn off HDR on some games and you still have a solid refresh rate on most games that are trying.
At the end of the day, this might have been a deal made with Lucas. I mean, it is a license deal. That may have been a deal that was made from day one with Bethesda. At the end of the day, it may not have been a Microsoft thing at all. We can only speculate.
Where are all of the special edition Xbox's Series X and S? Been waiting for a cool one to pick up :(. The only one we got was the Halo edition which was scalped like crazy and still hard to find at a decent price. I was hoping for a Forza, Fallout, Starfield, Fable or even a call of duty edition but nope. Kinda sucks because the xbox one had so many cool editions!
