@41tinman41
@41tinman41 3 года назад
I would think they’d add a drawback to remove it being OP. Maybe using your sword that way decreases sharpness which means less damage. While swords rarely break, they do decrease in damage if used too much without sharpening. Another side quest sees you assisting a blacksmith and the reward is being able to assess your equipment to know if they need repair. You use materials to repair weapons and armor, as well as improve them.
@OtakuUnitedStudio
@OtakuUnitedStudio 3 года назад
@@41tinman41 More likely that it would reduce durability, given that they have that as a core mechanic. I like the idea of weapons simply losing damage but it really doesn't incentivize looking for new weapons, since it would mean you'd have a full inventory but only ever use one or two.

I'm not super familiar with any other examples, but in this instance I'd say he was absolutely right. Even if for example lightning attracting to metal objects being carried by someone may not be realistic, it's intuitive and understandable, and also makes for an interesting gameplay feature. Stabbing a rock with a sword is a bit ridiculous, and would also remove any real challenge with climbing. I'm sure there's more to it than what's explained in the video but in my personal opinion some of the best moments in BOTW were when you were so close to reaching the top of a cliff with your stamina blinking red. That sword mechanic wouldn't have just been a bit far fetched, but also it would've removed that tension you felt from a gameplay perspective. I'd imagine if I can recognize that surely Miyamoto could as well.

"people cant stand on a sword realistically" thats his excuse? not the ability to stab a sword deep enough to be able to support an adults weight with one arm and probably exhausted? I'd argue that feature shouldnt have been there since it kills the point of the stamina bar.

As a Game Dev student, I think that the entire section from 14:20 is so fascinating, it differs a lot with the way they teach us how to manage a project, and I think that the common theme of a "breath of fresh air" Aonuma pushed for is what largely made the game so outstanding, it really is in a class of its own and the behind the scenes really reflects the time and effort put into this splendidly designed game.

Ironically I recall when this game came out in 2017 some people (namely it seemed mainly people who hold A Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time as their favorite Zelda) bashed this game for not being enough like the older games, including the soundtrack going for a more limited use of instruments as I recall at least one person going "I wanted a full 100 person orchestra playing the Kakariko Village theme, not one guy on a piano." The two I remember the most were JonTron (his initial twitter posts about the game had him complaining and saying he just went back to playing Ocarina on his 3DS, though to be fair he said he later went back to it witht he mindset to treat it more like a survival game and he was enjoying it more), and Mike Matei, aka James Rolfe's best friend (though more so his livechat when he was streaming the game, I recall the chat was full of people going "game's boring, fuck this shit, I wanted another Twilight Princess" and whatnot).

Nintendo honestly sounds like a wonderful place to work. Making sure all of their staff has their voices heard, the fact a well respected employee was casual enough that whispering "the bike, the bike" was his way of convincing others to add a motorcycle to the game, it honestly just sounds like a really nice workplace.

the hiding of the OG music in the new music is so fucking genius; i still remember the first time i was riding my horse through the night and the pouring rain trying to get to the next town, and that atmospheric music was so calming and gorgeous; racing across the fields and the rolling green hills with majestic mountains in the distance and then, as if sent down from god himself, that beautiful zelda theme BARELY comes through against the piano, like a warm memory from your childhood bubbling to the surface, bringing back all those lovely emotions and reminding you of where you are, who you are, and where you came from. absolutely gorgeous
