Being able to slow our breathing down with functional breathing mechanics, a lightness to the breath and a respiratory rate of 5.5 to 6 breaths per minute is essential to promoting overall health, increasing our stress tolerance and how we manage our emotions.
The ability to lighten and slow our breathing down is an art and a skill. The desire to breath faster is governed by our carbon dioxide tolerance so improving this will help us slow or breathing down but also this as a practise will help improve our carbon dioxide tolerance and thus creating a positive loop.
It takes time to master so go slow and steady - most important is to not try to hard, ensure its stays relaxed and not stressful by trying to hard and keep the breathing even and rhythmical.
