@davidburroughs2244 the not of great importance is what pisses me off! 🤣😂 Some are quite obvious with title and thumbnail that I will watch 20 seconds and stop it to affect algorithm in hopes enough people do the same to bury the video and or channel.
First year TNG was turbulent. Patrick was too serious and had dragged everyone to a meeting to lecture them on ethics of hard work and being more considerate to the crew and stop joking around and be professional. He mellowed out as he accepted his role as captain and trusted the crew more. And it was full of hardships during the 7 years. They did 1 ep every 2 weeks, sometimes they worked 16 hours a day, ended the week on Saturday 2am.
Spiner in "Measure of a Man" and Stewart in "The Inner Light" are, in TV history, two of the finest performances and _stories_ ever done. Both merit an Emmy and a Hugo.
In Season 3 of Picard you could tell they were all happy to be back together and the chemistry between all of them is so natural. Frakes is probably a big part of that with his charisma and natural laid back attitude.
It's more of a reflection on us that we click on words like "difficult", "horrific", etc. Algos know most wouldn't click on "Data says working with STNG crew was awesome". It's us, not them...
This. Such a natural evolution. Seeing him integrate every aspect of all of his characters into an amalgamation that still felt like Data was a masterclass in acting.
I thought he has done the Data head wobble far to much. Data actually wobbled his head sparingly but with this new Data it's like three times a sentence.
As far as I am concerned, Data, Picard, Riker - the entire cast is royalty. All the memories from all the years. It's great. May they all live forever.
These interviews make it easy to see how Jonathan, Marina, and Brent convinced the casting director of Gargoyles to just keep calling other TNG alumni to play secondary characters over and over.
@@hops2099x Her character was kind of spunky & the relationship between herself & Data was more than a little reminiscent of the semi - adversarial relationship between McCoy & Spock. Gates McFadden seemed kind of BLAND by comparison, at least in the 1st 2 seasons when the series was still finding its footing.
I'm really proud of Frakes and his directing. Having him direct FIRST CONTACT was a huge leap of trust on the part of the studio and indeed it's one of the most beloved STAR TREK films. I'm so happy he has continued directing in the franchise and when I see his name in the opening credits I know it's an episode that's in good hands (not that it isn't when someone else is directing, but you get me).
Same here - just goes to illustrate how close everyone truly are as friends. You mess with someone like that either if you are a jerk or you’re really close. Still makes me giggle imagining SIR Patrick Stewart jumping up and down to rattle Brent 😂😂😂
I thought that was the meanest thing that could have happened in relation to that scene -- until I heard that Jonathan made Brent do a second take on the drop stunt.
@Durwood71 his impressions of human idiosyncrisities as an android are legendary. From his forced laughter to his awkward attempt at interpersonal realation... amazing.
Watching Brent play so many different personalities and seamlessly switch from one to another and I never think , this is the same actor , he becomes an entirely new person ... he's so brilliant that I think it's hard to notice just how amazingly talented he is. Imo there are very few actors that can pull off what he does. He even has different body language for each character. It's truly amazing and a master class in acting.
master class over-acting. Don't get me wrong I LOVE THIS MAN AND HIS CHARACTER. but he has a tendency to overact hahaha I LOVED his scientist role in independence day and even the new independence he was the best thing about that movie hahaha
The funny thing about Brent is that he says he was worried about not being able to show a range of emotion when playing Data in the original run, but I think that was when he was at his absolute best as an actor.
I don't know how Spiner and Burton were able to pull off all that complicated techno-babble for the entire run of the TNG series. Spiner had so much dialogue in each episode.
Back then, they, the movie studio, producers directors and writera consulted with astrophysicists, scientists as well as having proven sci fi writers. Im sure it was extremely challenging having to deal with these modern show runners and mind numbing writers....
As I understand it much of the techno-babble was stuff that came from Roddenberry's writing. The cast could ask him questions about things they didn't understand about a technology in the trek universe, and he was able to explain it to give them better context for a scene. I'm certain once he was gone they had to improvise, but I think much of the early stuff is very grounded in the laws of the universe he created.
@@metazare You can see after Roddenberry left TNG and left it to the writers who then started more real world astrophysics theories and developed the character and the universe more, thats when TNG really exploded into greatness.
@@PomaReign Roddenberry left for health reasons,if it wasn't for that he'd have never let go of his control on the show. And TNG was much better for his release of that control.
I enjoy seeing him pop up in old Broadway shows. My favorite is Sunday in the Park With George, which is available on DVD, where he plays a minor but enjoyable role in a very strong choral ensemble. The character he plays is a former NASA scientist, so I like to jokingly headcanon him as an early 1980s ancestor of the Soong family.
You young people need to quit calling famous movie stars underrated. They are not underrated you just weren't here when they hit it big. Now there retired and you kids are calling them underrated. Very disrespectful.
@@Ripley841 Admittedly, Spiner never led a blockbuster film. Check out his filmography - he was always a supporting role or, rarely, the lead in small-time films. His biggest film role (outside of his supporting roles in Trek) was a bit role in Independence Day. Not saying the guy didn't DESERVE to lead his own film - he absolutely did, it just never happened because he got typecast. Point is, we have a word for when a talented actor could have made a fantastic lead when he never did, or could have had a much more high-profile career - the appropriate word, by definition, is "underrated." You should definitely google the word before getting all boomer-pissy about people using it.
@@Ripley841 People just wish they saw him in more stuff post TNG (I don’t think Master of Disguise, Night Court or later season of Blacklist really excite people). Don’t have to take the moral high ground against the saying - feel free to list list good stuff he’s been in if you want to contribute… that and start using the word “they’re” in the comment you are writing against everyone who was saying he’s underrated.
I think Data had a wonderful ending chapter to his story... If it's the end. He finally gained a sense of emotion that showed the profound human condition that he wanted so desperately, and was able to remain himself as a unique and new species. I genuinely loved the acting and the story. This complex android now became the hybrid of human and science, I think, that Q knew we will become inevitably. And it begins with Data.
*Transhumanism ignorance* is NOT the destiny of the human race. Why do you even _need_ a physical body when you have transcended this lower physical vibration to a higher spiritual vibration??? Many intelligent species before human have _already_ done this (Lyrans) and many will continue _long_ after humans have spiritually matured. While Gene Roddenberry’s misguided Transhumanism can make for interesting Sci-Fi it doesn’t change the fact that the pseudo Religion of Science are still false prophets.
i stopped watching all star trek after picard season one. i couldnt really do discovery and i cant tell if its this idea of being gritty and dark but also the woke aspect that is heavily forced down our throats but to be honest it was them killing DATA AGAIN. i was laughing at the last movie with TNG cast until the moment DATA died then i was balling my eyes out. i liked the first 2-3 picard episodes then it just ran out of steam and went full woke and only watched to laugh at it then they have this brilliant death of DATA again with picard being turned into an android and i was crying once again. i dont need trek, we have the orville and that to me has become the federation and TNG continued. not this picard nonsense
yea that part was good, however as a whole seaon 3 failed to deliver a compelling narrative. It was pretty obvious it was made as an excuse to get the whole TNG cast together. Missed opportunity from that aspect
When the talks of the Willy Wonka remake started (before Johnny Depp was, IMO, miscast), I immediately thought of Brent. I think he could have rocked that role, no pun intended there. 😁
Data's jump in First Contact looked weird anyway. Like they used a cardboard cut-out of Data and inserted it digitally or something. I wonder if they actually used the jump he's talking about after all?
Yes, they did use the jump as it was done by a stunt actor as Brent stated. He is scared of heights so they used a harness for Brent then digitized it out then did it a second time. Please pay attention to these videos.
Brent spiner is genuinely one of the nicest men to ever grace this planet! even on twitter he's so humble, he replies to practically everyone! such a top bloke
Yes I was so pleasantly surprised as the first 2 seasons were painful and I had nearly given up. Not only was it great that they got back to what ST NG was, but that it was a really great story in it's own right, particularly in the way they dealt with the development of the characters 30 years on from the original.
I guess that's why we love the show(s) so much. The sets are manufactured, the ship battles CGI'd. But the friendship, the chemistry, the comradery were and are genuine. And that's pretty awesome. I thought the end of Picard was different than expected, but it also was a marvelous end. The idea of retiring and being with the friends and family you love. A very precious thing to hold onto.
Quit calling famous retired movie stars underrated. All you younger kids keep doing that. There not underrated, there famous, just because you weren't alive when they hit the big time doesn't make them underrated. It's very disrespectful. That be like me saying Marlon Brando was underrated cause I wasn't alive when he had hit the big time.

@@Ripley841I agree. The term is so cliché. That basically is an insult to the actor. Spiner played many roles in the franchise, not just Data and he had to play against himself many times even before season 3. Brent's as Data is low key one of the best tv characters, he was making taking us on a journey of a AI learn what being human is. His on screen relationship with Jordi is what possible with AI. I hope We can learn a thing or 1 based on what's coming.
Don't forget that AI is not the same as artificial human. Ai, as intelligence, doesn't have the same needs, wants and desires that millions of years of survival instincts have given to humans. !n order to be autonomous, an artificial human must have needs (which give motivation--reason to do things rather than stand idle) and must have values to guide those needs. Those may not be as easy to program as intelligence.
Nearly the whole cast of TNG was outstanding. Then theres Wil Wheaton... He played an annoying brat child on TV, then he grew up into annoying manchild that only grew physically but not emotionally. Seems like he pops up in the news at least once a year for some stupid thing he has done or said because he has a childish mentality and no ability to control his emotions.
It's nice hearing that the cast still gets along. There are always those sad stories where actors were professional doing the work but didn't like each other - like with Alan Alda and Gary Burghoff from MASH.
@@Alpha-Trion7 Mythbusters, I think, is a little different. It's not that they don't respect each other, or don't enjoy working together. They just have clashing personalities (which worked for the show) and so they decided to maintain a cordial but strictly professional relationship. As far as I know, there are no hard feelings between Adam and Jamie.

I became so quickly irritated that I surprised myself with an outburst of "LET HIM _FUCKING TALK!"_ i cannot stand how annoying interviews are because of hosts interrupting, talking over, and putting words into guest's mouths. Jesus, dude...
I wish more people knew that a HUGE portion of legitimate acting... is also known as the COURAGE to face the unknown. Title: "BRENT SPINER Shares the Difficulties Working with Old Castmates on PICARD Season 3" Brent: "it wasnt difficult, it was fun to come back and have another shot at it" I hope the creator loses their car keys costing them valuable time like they cost me mine
Yeah, that title was a bit click-baity -- but I assume it was probably chosen by an editor or producer of the channel. It certainly wasn't something we needed to have in order to click on the link, though -- "Brent Spiner talks about working on 'Picard'" would have been enough to make me want to watch.
Picard is a very strange series. The second season seems to just have been thrown aside. Q is apparently okay now and the new Borg queen just isn't there after all that time traveling. And Wesley just shows up for no real reason. They also keep trying to insert Brent Spiner as another clan Soong member, as well as the Borg. I honestly don't know where they were going with it. Season 1 and 3 at least has a continuing link.
Wouldn't make sense for the two Borg Queens to meet cause it would create a time influx event. The "Good" Borg Queen is from another timeline that has been inserted into this timeline. We can only assume the good borg are guarding that portal still.
Q is dead, don't be so linear. I believe this borg queen is from the end of voyager, not the alternate timeline. Wesley is off managing Gary 7 somewhere. Not sure what you mean about soong
Funny how many people get worked up with the idea that the crew were friends, and that it would be horrible if they weren't. I'm not friends with ANY of my coworkers. I don't talk to them when I am at work if I don't have to, let alone after work. While I have a close bond with the people I served in the military with, I wouldn't call any of them friends either.
There are coworkers I get along with quite well and happily shoot the breeze during work hours. I doubt very highly I’d go and have a drink with them though.
The difference is, people watch a show for years and feel those manufactured fictional relationships very strongly, so if they learn the connection isn't as strong between them in real life, for some viewers that affects their enjoyment of the fictional relationships. I'm guessing you don't have a bunch of strangers thinking something similar regarding you and your coworkers. ;-)
They didn't like pulaski' actor, but she was much better than actor's who played crusher. A Wrong character, for the show. From what I remember, he wasn't thrilled with playing data. And a @zz-h at commicon. Seeing his mentality, I can see it. From old nightcourt'
Marina Sirtis and Jonathan Frakes were regulars. Brent Spiner and Michael Dorn made frequent appearances. LeVar Burton did an episode. Kate Mulgrew, Avery Brooks, Colm Meaney, and Nichelle Nichols all appeared too.
why the negative title? I loved Season 3 of Picard !! I'd love to see more TNG cast. Almost didnt' watch this because of the title.. I thought Brent Spiner was going to be negative about his castmates and I didn't want to hear that.
When you see older interviews or hear them talk about the early days/months of TNG it presents an image of Patrick Stewart that is entirely different from the one we know today. A classically trained stage actor, all about being serious and hardworking, to the point where he'd get annoyed when any of the cast was goofing off or whatever....it's genuinely amazing knowing that and then hearing a story where he was just bouncing around on a platform in a missile silo to mess with Brent cause he was scared of heights :P
Awesome to hear that they are all friends. One of the most shocking things to me was that the Monty Python crew never hung out together as friends, always seemed so odd since I'd just taken it for granted that they all hung out goofing off and making jokes together. But that is the business, they may seem like good/great friends but just be workmates.
Had the opportunity to meet Brent and Jonathan in Vancouver B.C at a fan event. He was very nice and gracious with his time. Got to take a few pics and he signed a few things. Awesome experience,
Man ... I can't imagine how much fun it must have been to be making a show and being friends with the entire cast. That had to have been almost a dream job.
I remember seeing an interview Michael Dorn/Worf gave and he said that this was one of the hardest 'adjustments' or aspects of moving to DS9 ... the TNG cast & crew apparently were close as family and loved going to work every day and spent their time proverbially smokin & jokin etc. - and they hung out together, became close and it was just an awesome "work environment" ... but when he got to DS9, Avery Brooks (whom I met and is a great dude but I agree can be intense in his 'work ethic') fostered a much more serious, "this is work not play", serious-business type of work environment. He wasn't used to that, TNG was much more of a "family business" kind of environment.
He was an all time character on star trek as Data. They should've rode Data out for a looong time like the next generation of Spock. He played the part of Data perfectly. They dogged it not utilizing his character enough.
@@woodyshooter Right lol. Like, where would anybody get the idea the show that ended with three seasons is all of a sudden coming back for a forth? And there's no guarantee Star Trek Legacy (on the Enterprise w/Captain Seven - and Q putting Jack on trial) is gonna happen.

Michael, I can’t recall which episode of Smallville this was from, but Lex and Clark are having one of their Alan Shore/Denny Crane moments in the barn, and Lex says something like “Clark, when my father dies, kings will come to his funeral.
