an absolute must include though is selesnya eulogist and all the plaguecrafter variants from what I remember I leaned a lot more heavily into golgari strategies and ramp so tilling treefolk and genesis were great for returning things to hand also Id say trying to keep the attack of creatures to a low number really isnt necessary with how big you can pump gyrus
I'm allergic to shellfish- not only did it kill my entire village, it gave me a rash Olivia, fisher Now I'm imagine a crab killing vampires. I know most likely not that Olivia
As a blind seer player, the point of chill, wrath, insight, ect. are to play color word changers like glammerdye and change the colors to something more appropriate.
On Grenzo and by extension Gyrus I do have to say it is hilarious when you pump some mana into casting him and drop out a 21/21 granzo with a Rogue's Passage. I only ever did this once but I was laughing manically for a good while.
I've played a ton of reanimator decks using all the strongest ones. Muldrotha, Meren,Sedris, Sheoldred. None are nearly as fun for me as Gyrus is. He's so good. Drop him early and people don't want to remove him because you'll just bring him back stronger and stronger. He's so underrated in how good and fun he is.
Man it's weird how the current Oracle wording of Insight completely changes the spell's function from how it was printed. A proper wording would be "When Insight comes into play, choose an opponent. Whenever a green spell cast by that opponent resolves, draw a card."
I love how the Blind Seer is just Urza pretending to be a blind guy. At any time he can be "Urza, Lord High Artificer," but he's just f⛎↪king with you.
*edit: I am wrong, see below* Blind seer can with with with Wrath of Marit Lage, you color them creature(s) during the end step, and they stay colored until the next "beginning of end step". Same trick you can use with Astral Slide/Drift in a cycling deck to blink out a creature with an undesirable upkeep trigger.
@@edhdeckbuilding the more you know; older cards do wind up ambiguous since the 2010 revamp, but I suppose you can apply the heuristic that continuous effects remain "end of turn" while trigger-esque ones are "beginning of the end step" things; Seer is more like giant Growth than Final Fortune, so it tracks.
After trying to brew 8.5 tails with a colors matter theme which didn't really work I turned to Blind Seer. Glad to see your take on him ! A lot of fun and unusual interactions
Oh wow, I have a Grenzo deck and I never once considered using Gyrus the same way. That even gives you access to Poison-Tip Archer and Rhythm of the Wild!
Blind seer usually includes cards that can change an instance of a card like crystal spray to change those color specific cards to what color you need.
another great card for gyrus (and any deck that you want to get safe attacks with your commander) is general's kabuto from kamigawa. gives shroud and prevents combat damage dealt to the equipped creature.
Withering Gaze is a card I just saw over on the Nitpicking Nerds chanel that made me find this video to suggest it in Blind Seer! Granted you need Painter's Servant out but very cool.
Hi Demo, I know it's not uncommon but it often gets outshined by Muldrotha, could you please consider The Mimeoplasm? I'm conflicted on using +1/+1 counters ooze tribal or having necrotic ooze as secret commander and jam in a bunch of activated abilities. Maybe a happy mix of both?
I have a Azorious Color hosing deck and King Crab just top deck locks ppl out of the game 1 creature at a time til they just don't play creatures anymore. It's a house.
a very underplayed etb card that works great in gyrus is mindclaw shaman, it steals an instant or sorcery from an opponent's hand and casts it for free, worst case scenario you still reveal there hand to everyone else.
I think commander tax is just an extra 2 on top of whatever you already pay for it, so Gyrus would be X2BRG, right? My understanding (I'm still kinda new to magic) is that he's trying to fit that 2 into X to give him the +1/+1s without paying any extra.
I love this series so much. My vote for the next one is definitely Asmira Holy Avenger, I have a GW aristocrats (surprising amount of unique synergy) with some cool ozolith shenanigans that I love. Chisei is something to maybe give a try too, finally a home for Snowfall! (if you run enough cumulative upkeep cards, that is)
@@septred3 being able to keep everything tapped down with Kiora bests the sea god is definitely a win con, I built it in an artifact matters way partially myself and looping urza's saga or using cards like power conduit are fun and can be surprisingly powerful once they get going
@@nidak3194 that does not help at all. You want an etb @ best you would only get 2 etb. Once casting and once on attack reanimation. Sundial would let you keep token , but that will never allow you to get another etb since creature is exiled from graveyard on Gyrus attack trigger.
I feel like Gyrus would be a much better commander if it didn't exile the card form your 'yard or if you could target multiple creatures with it's ability. Loved the episode though!
Thrun beats Isao. I like Thrun. Thrun was the first Mythic I ever opened in my first box I ever bought :D aaaah, those were the days. back when the OG dual lands were only 80$ each...
Don't forget about Primal Vigor for Gyrus. Also could you add Soramaro, First to Dream as an option for underwhelming commanders for the poll sometime?
Hey what about extra combat steps in gyrus? Like Port Razer ? And maze of ith? it can protect your commander and still trigger And what about Deep Forest Hermit instead of Deranged Hermit ? It's way cheaper and a bit better i think It seems fun
Cards like gyrus confuse me With rooftop storm you still have to pay commander tax Then with karador somehow its effect reduces commander tax And with gyrus commander tax helps it get bigger The last two seem to contradict the first one to me
Hey Demo! I love this series I built around your Evra suggestions and it’s pretty fun to play. I’ve never been into white until now. I was wondering if you would consider Ryusei, the Falling Star for an underwhelming commander. Thanks
feel like gyrus is just a worse version of Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker cause it only brings back 1 creature, albeit with power 2 or less not 1 or less and it is also beaten by whisper blood liturgist cause whisper is a tap ability and it can be used multiple times per turn on ur opponent's turns 2 and it doesn't exile, it doesn't have to attack so no risk of it dying to a surprise 3/3 from a beast within or something, like the deck but i get why it isn't popular
First off thank you for the amazing content I get excited just like I did when I first got into magic every time I watch your videos! I do have a question about the wording on Insight, it says “successfully casts a green spell” would that mean it resolves or just that it was cast?
25:27 You took it apart because you can only ever "reanimate" a creature with Gyrus once, the lines get really clunky, and there are alternatives that let you do what you actually want to be doing without needing to attack and losing your cards forever. If I had to guess
