Walking to/from school is one of those peaceful feelings with or without friends with you

There was a few times I would walk to and from school that I could recall. When I was in elementary school, I lived in a rather nice trailer park across the street from the school (It was a pretty small town in southern Louisiana). I'd often walk back and forth to school until middle school. Then I moved a bunch (ended up attending 4 different middle schools across 3 different states). The last middle school I went to was okay. I stayed in a pretty nice set of apartments a few blocks away. Sometimes, I'd walk to/from school and sometimes I'd take the bus that picked me up from the corner. Eventually, I just started walking to school more because it was honestly faster than taking the bus, though I would still take the bus if it was raining. Though, it got to the point where I would walk to school so much that the bus just stopped coming to my neighborhood anymore so even if it was raining, it never came by to pick me up. I think the last time I ever walked from school was when I was in high school. I had a pretty nice bus but it eventually got pretty crowded and most kids on the bus were assholes. You'd have most seats with at minimum 2...sometimes 3 kids riding. Kids were always yelling at me to shut my window because I was hot and sweating my ass off and they said it was "cold"...would even get up and come shut my window themselves when I wouldn't. I got fed up with the shit and just started walking home for about a semester. Though, I didn't live close to school so my walk home would take like an hour and a half. Though I would still beat my bus home. I normally rode the "2nd shift" of buses from school meaning that even though school let out at 3pm, my bus would go take one load of kids, then come back around 3:30 to take the 2nd shift. So, instead of waiting for my over crowded bus, my ass would just start hoofing it as soon as school let out. Sometimes I'd stop for a drink at one of the gas stations. Still...I would be getting home a shortly before my bus would drive past.
