Brian May came into the NAPA car parts store in Flagstaff in 2017, all the counter men knew by the hair and clothes and jewelry he had to be "somebody", I was the only guy old enough in the store to know who he was! Really nice and personable guy.
I disagree Adam lambert is one of the most talented singers on the Earth! And he doesn't want or need to take Freddie mercury 's place he has his own solo career!
Totally agree, he will never be beaten. My thoughts on Lambert are unrepeatable on here. We lost Freddie and ended up with a fat American - should have kept Paul - at least he was real
You cant even compare the two. Freddie was a once in a lifetime talent, while theres Adam Lambert's performing on every cruise ship.@@MaxineCommander-nj4yy
Freddy Mercury was the best lead singer of any band. His octave range was incredible and amazing. I grew up listening to Queen and they’ll always be one of my favorite bands. Freddie Mercury died one month after my brother aids. There is the day that goes by that I don’t miss the two of them. 😭
I love when Sammy was talking about Sir Brian May being a singer as well, and Brian subtly said “Yeah but not like you are” that was such a cool moment for Brian to recognize how good Sammy is as a singer
@@CB-xr1eg He’s also a fierce defender of endangered animals. He helped form Save Me, which works to protect foxes and badgers. He once purchased a large tract of land that was slated for development in order to protect the habitat for the animals who live there. He is also very active in promoting the very cool art of 3D photography that was started in the Victorian era. It’s called Stereoscopy.
I don't know about everyone else but for me Freddie Mercury was the most brilliant frontman in rock history. And there 'are' so many other front men to compare Freddie with. I truly envy ALL who got to see Freddie live - I mean I watch the footage and Freddie for me had that incalculable gift of 'connecting' with what were HUGE audiences. And I would also add, as Brian says here, as it has been documented so well, Freddie knew he was 'on a clock' and just told his bandmates to "give me material and I'll sing". Think about that - with effectively no real medical options- treatment available, Freddie 'could' have just passed away peacefully as he'd stopped taking medication. But he only wanted, in his dying days, to 'create' music. Amazing.
Freddie's brilliance as a singer and front man was probably only outmatched by his musical vision. It was Freddie who kind of drove Queen to be different, without him they may have been a typical rock band ( not saying the band members weren't talented, they all were), from what ppl I know with insight ( ex music journalists ), he refused to just follow the AOR formula.
@@njlaurenI agree with you completely. Freddie wrote and co-wrote most of Queen's catalog. He was such an iconic singer, pianist, and performer. They put on two of the best concerts I've ever seen.
So proud of you guys, and all who work hard to maintain sobriety! My nephew and his fiancé are both almost 2 years sober and work very hard every day to stay sober and pay for what they did in active addiction. I'm so incredibly proud of anyone who is able to admit they need help and work hard to maintain sobriety. I can't imagine how hard it is. Unfortunately I lost my best friend since 2nd grade to addiction in November of 2015. She had been sober for 7 months and in a moment of weakness took the same amount she took while in active addiction and we lost her. Sorry for rambling. Just know that I see you and I'm so proud of you. ❤️ ❤

I love the fact that Sir Brian always talks so beautifully about his guitar-idol, Rory Gallagher. Rory was an inspiration to so many, how sorely missed he is.
Joe Walsh is a class act. Have loved him since the James Gang. He’s the real deal. Brian May has his feet on the floor- never an ego-maniac. Two of my all time favorite guitarists! And Sammy ROCKS! 😁👍🎸❤️
@@christopherwachtel8306 hard disagree. I think his multiple interviews of other musicians shows it’s not all about him. As for ego, I mean, if you get into that business you pretty much have to have a strong one, esp taking a front man role. I’ve never seen anything but a guy with a solid joy for life and friends in him.
I still tear up every time Brian talks about Freddie. And, like others have said, I love that he gives Rory Gallagher his due. Rory was not that well-known here in the States back in the 70s, but me being the blues nerd that I was, I found him somehow. I was lucky enough to see him play live at the Beacon Theater in NYC in 1974. What a great show! I still have him on vinyl.

Rory is criminally underrated and doesn't get mentioned enough as far as I'm concerned. He's right up there with all the greats -- Clapton, Beck, Page, Hendrix, etc. He had a unique voice on the guitar and was a nimble soloist, but sadly flew under pop music's radar I suppose. He also kicked ass on the saxophone too, which not too many people know.
I dont Care what Sammy is doin or who he is with I will watch him. He has an infectious personality and is so relatable you think you know him. and i`ve been listening and watching Sammy since the 70s. One of my Top Music Heroes, I love Sammys writing and He Kranks out the Rock N Roll. SAMMY, YOU ARE DA MAN !!!
I was fortunate enough to have been invited to his son's wedding and was able to talk to Sammy a bit. His littlest son was with him in the crowd watching the newlyweds cut the cake, and the youngster was a little restless and happened to step back on my foot. Sammy noticed and apologized and said "he's drunk". This little kid was about 8 yrs. old! Really funny. I had also just a month or so before this talked to Brian. My sister and I caught him in front of his house in L.A. and he was SO gracious to stand there and talk to us for an hour! His first question was "Have you read the "Celestine Prophecy"? Every time you said something that he took as a compliment, he hugged you. My knees buckled about 3 times.....a beautiful and brilliant man.
Truly grateful to Sammy for interviewing these legends of Rock. It's always so great to hear what these guys have to say. Sammy; please do as many more of these as you can brother man. We Love It!!!
From memphis. I love how much y’all love Elvis. I listened to 5150 today again on good speakers and still chill bumps. Can’t wait to back to Cabo wabo Thank you!
Before this medium...we saw them on stage and heard glib responses to silly questions...Sammy asks questions, yes indeed...but if they were pointless ones, we would never get the real person coming through....I'm 71...have been part of it as it arrived here today..we see these performers now , see them talk.....Literally watched the James gang in Glasgow Scotland..."Seems to me..They all want to talk about it".....To watch the humbleness of these we saw on stage, now years later has made the music so much sweeter...I used to watch Rory Gallagher play in the middle of the night also in Glasgow, only found out Brian May was driven by his methods....Thanks Sammy for another glimpse into who our musical idols truly are....
How cool. Sammy interviewing Brian May AND Joe Walsh. Tow absolute legends. And Jeff Skunk Baxter coming out of the door when Sammy's talking to Paul Shaffer. 👌
I am a Substance Use Disorder Counselor, and Joe Walsh is absolutely correct. At first, you do something because it helps you cope, then it doesn't work then you find yourself it's slave. Awesome!
Dave Grohl and Sammy Hagar are the two coolest dudes in rock, hands down. I wonder if they've ever collaborated. Sure would be something great if they ever do. And when Sammy sang a line from James Browns "I Feel Good", that was just off the charts with soul. Amazing!!

@@iris67si WHO IS LYING ABOUT FREDDIE MERCURY? HE WAS A SODOMITE WHO DIED FROM AIDS. FROM ALL ACCOUNTS, HE CRIED OUT TO JESUS CHRIST ON HIS DEATH BED, TO BE FORGIVEN FOR HIS DISGUSTING LIFESTYLE. 😇😇😇
I was one of the fortunate ones to be able to see Queen in concert with Freddie Mercury in 1979. No words to describe how I felt that night - 16 years old and rocking to live Queen, who I was introduced to by my older brothers. I think Adam Lambert joining Queen is one of those things that was meant to be - destiny, because it would not have sounded right or felt right otherwise. I hope to be able to see these guys live some day soon!
Agreed! Additionally, I loved Brian May’s reaction at George Michael singing Somebody to Love at the rehearsal/tribute for Freddie in 1992. Such a kind person/musician to express his approval.
I’ve been a fan of Queen since I was a teenager. I love every single album and almost every song in them ( there are some I don’t really care for) I also like "The Cosmos Rock" with Paul Rodgers, which I don’t know why that album isn’t on Spotify anymore. But I do like Queen + Adam Lambert, he’s an amazing singer, flamboyant and has stage presence. He’s giving us the chance to see Brian and Roger touring and rocking again just like Paul did. I do not agree with anyone comparing them with Freddie; stop that!. Especially comparing Adam with Freddie. It’s ridiculous. Adam has his own personality and he’s not trying to imitate or act like him. He just took a job Brian and Roger offered him to do. He doesn’t have to fill Freddie’s shoes, we all know no one can. But he brings life to his songs his own way and the co-writers and Freddie’s mates are backing him up right there on stage giving Adam the privilege to sing them and that’s all that matters. Just sing along, enjoy the music, the beautiful songs, feel the good vibes. Otherwise stop comparing, criticizing and take your negativity somewhere else and play your favorite Queen songs. They will always be there; that’s why they were recorded for…to live forever.

I've been blessed enough to meet Sir Brian (and he told me not to call him "Sir"), Sammy, and Jim Burton.... Not a bum in the lot. They are all absolute legends and they know it. The big thing is, they don't let you know that they know who they are.
While Sammy is talking to Paul Shaffer, Jeff the Skunk Baxter walked out of the dressing room! I would have been like "hang on Paul I'll be back in a minute!"
I've never been a big fan of Sammy's music, but as a person, he seems like a real super cool guy. Someone you could have a drink with, or, if you don't like drinking anymore, you could still hang with and just sling the BS. He's great.
Brian insists on convincing us that Adam has a greater voice than Freddie. I've listened to both in live recordings and there's no real comparison, Freddie is from another galaxy. I'm glad that Queen keeps touring but, for me, Adam just doesn't have the right voice.
May is always implying that Adam Lambert can do more than Mercury. It’s laughable. Lambert can sing very high and he is certainly LOUD. But his voice just has a shrill irritating quality to me. And he is just plain lame. It’s great that others enjoy it but it’s not for me. Mercury was the genuine article. A one in a trillion.
No matter how good Adam sings, he will never come close to Freddie!!!!!!! Just to know. dear Brian!!!!! Freddie had the charisma, the gift, the magic, that nobody hasn°t!!!! He just came on the stage, opened his mouth and created a special aura for him and the band!!!!! And his talent to play on the piano, writing songs and music are amazing and timeless!!!! And it°s a shame to use the name Queen without Freddie and John!!!!!! It°s not fair at all, Freddie and John were always fair and loyal members!!!!!!! He would not do this like you!!!!!!! If Freddie and John were around, they could fresh enough the band, don°t worry!!!!! They could have many ideas to make new stuffs for sure!!!!!!!
While watching this video, I was thinking "Sammy is now 76, I wonder if he still can sing those high notes" then few seconds later, 8:00 hahaha .... still has it 😂
I got Elvis` 50 greatest hits on 5 records for Christmas in 1977. A few years before the teacher caught us playing Delta Dawn on a kazu and made us all sing it as punishment for being late to 3rd grade class.
Never a huge Queen fan, but then never a full-on antagonist. One reason is Brian's astonishing axe work. But of course the ensemble was immaculate, and I wish we hadn't lost Freddie so early on, and that the band had pushed on with him to, who knows, new territory. The best of rock 'n' roll.
I seriously doubt that Brian May cares if his “Sir” or “Dr.” are used in the title of an informal RU-vid video. Is the guy a genius? Sure. Is he a stickler for bogus nomenclature protocol? Nope.
very powerfull words about the addiction .. its all treu ... to all my addicted mfckers !!! letss goo you got this !! all love and power to you if you struggling with addiction i believe in yall and i love yall !!
@@hermanhelmich No its not. His voice grates on my last nerve. He'd be great for theater. Clearly very talented, but no chance he has more range than Freddie.
Brian left his PhD studies in 1973 when Queen took off ... and he returned to complete it in 2007 when he was 60. He also has an IQ of 180 ... Just mind blowing.
It´s very inspiring to see classic rockers who have aged well and seem to have life by the balls´n slit. Wow to have lived 40-60 years of healthy and "unhealthy" rock´n rollª!
Sammy is by far the nicest down to earth former member of VH. I know Eddie had a tough upbringing not knowing English for the first few years etc in California, and Roth is a complicated person with a huge ego, but I'd rather have a beer with Sammy.
Freddie was music and entertainment i was lucky enough to see Queen at Wembley in 86. Bri and Roger must have tough to carry on without Freddie being on-stage
