This really upsets me. Being a father is more than just being there financially. You have to be there mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. ALL OF THAT MATTERS. You can’t expect anything from a child when they are older if they were not taught while young. SMFH.

I am 53 years of age and had been a Brian McNight fan since 1990 up until the day that I saw this! He is shameful! All I heard was what money he gave his children & nothing else. I am so glad his children have taken the high road unlike himself acting like a fn kid! The reason why he even have the current wife today is because of his status & money. Regardless of what he has gone through with his children, he should've never went public with his spiteful intentions against them! It doesn't matter how old they are! Young adult children go through various phases in their life. I know because I have 3 of them. Of Course it's difficult! & Yes! They are difficult to deal with! I remember meeting him. I was a freshman in college working at Courtyard Marriott. It was just a small college town but Brian did a concert in the city. I was working night audit so I saw him and his crew check in during the beginning of my shift. Imagine being a vocal music performance major & singing all your life and Brian McKnight walks into your job. I couldn’t believe it. They of course went straight up to their rooms. When it was time for breakfast, his entire crew came down for breakfast. I heard them joking about how he’d never come down to a lobby to eat with them. So, me being me, I prepared a tray of food with fruit, tea, water and juice and took it to his room. When he opened the door, I simply said good morning and that I brought breakfast to him. He scoffed and slammed that door in my face. I felt TERRIBLE and couldn’t believe he would do that. I mean, I wasn’t just staff, I was just a kid. I wasn’t asking him for an autograph, a picture or trying to sing for him. I’d been around so many celebrities but that point that I wasn’t some crazed fan. I just wanted to show him some hospitality. From that day on, I never liked him and I understood why his crew mocked him the way they did. His reputation has never been one of kindness or humility (check out Jamie Foxx’s interview on R&B Money). I’m further disgusted by his treatment of his children. Also, I find it so strange that while we are at this amazing place in the BC where we are finally able to build generational wealth, most bm celebrities don’t understand what that means. Y’all can’t take the money with y’all. And as far as wanting your sons to grow up and be men, did you teach them what that means? How could he have? He clearly is missing what manhood and fatherhood is within himself. It sounds like his sons have figured out a lot more about this life than he has and he will reap what he sows. Financial support has been a socially acceptable substitute for a father in children's lives and it's never been ok. Child support is not visitation, is not quality time, is not coming to events or occasions, is not being there when kids are sick, is not helping with homework or broken hearts, it's not setting a good example. I'm tired of society saying it's ok for men to be a paycheck and women to be everything.

My biological father is the same as Brian. I grew up thinking that my step father was my real dad. Him and my mom died when I was 8 years old. My wife's father did the SAME exact thing as Brian. My wife is the only BIOLOGICAL child that he had with his ex-wife (my wife's mother), whom he was married to for over 20 years. His new wife has four kids which he claims as his own and completely never claims my wife. However, my wife and I have been married for 10 years and have two beautiful boys. Recently, he has come crawling back to my wife, because he wants a relationship with his grandchildren. Now he is going through a depression episode because he chose to make his bed and lay in it. 🤷🏾‍♂️

A few things I took away from this whole messy situation is that not everyone with a child or children is a mother or a father, biologically or otherwise. A lot of people don’t really get how serious being responsible for an entire being is. And also everything is not for public consumption, some things should kept and dealt with properly and privately, regardless. I hate this type of nonsense.
