Parting out 9 sets of 76202 to demonstrate my method for parting out LEGO sets and adding parts to my Bricklink store using BrickStore. The goal is yo do it as efficiently as I can for my setup and to limit how many times I have to each a piece. I also talk about why I do it this way and show the whole process. Watching Law & Order is key.

With the breathing, this is like the Blair Witch Project but it's a Bricklink store. It's always interesting to see bigger stores' methods. I try to do as much as I can in Brickstore before uploading because I've messed up enough times with the browser windows on Bricklink (as you warned about).

We do it very similarly. We like to use clear Solo cups. We also import our remarks directly into the Brickstore file. We sort the file by color and input remarks for new lots as we go. Pricing is set in Brickstore and then we mass upload. My wife also uses small bookmark style sticky notes to mark drawers with space for more. We mix lots as we only have about 4000 drawers/ shoeboxes. Our hope is to work towards one lot/one drawer. We also separate new from used in separate areas to help with the picking order.

one drawer per lot on used however may lead to a warehouse full of almost empty drawers… At least for me half of my lots are one item only.

There is a much easier way doing the remarks on this, within the program. You can open another file and download your current store inventory, then use the Edit > Copy Value from Document, and then select only to copy the Remarks. Then you have a file you can use to add remarks to the new parts, without adding them to the store at all. Can save it and come back, add other sets etc.

Thank you ! I can say I was actually consumed while watching. I've thought about a system like this . But at the moment, I'm more a collector/builder. I have alot of sets sealed, aswell as built and have alot of extras . I sort everything in a build by color and part . So your store made so much sense. Thanks for doing the video. I see why you and @mardigrasman23 both don't like my use of the extra trays to sort into. When I started the store, I used the same containers you used in the video, exclusively. I am converting to the cup method that Earl is using, conjunction with the containers you are using. I am just about to the point I am going to need the drawers for storage anyway... So the actual way you handle Bricklink is interesting to me. I never thought about using the search for parts in your store by set. If Bricklink only had that feature for wanted list. LOL The process of de-parting drawers is very manual, I run into the same problem. When I see a larger drawer getting to the point that it can fit into a smaller drawer I try and move it down, as time allows. It is always and balance for me, between time and space as to how much I move the inventory. I believe we will be talking about this on the next podcast...

Thanks for providing these insights into your system. Regarding your question at 20:14: The flexibility of a collection regarding changing part counts over time is a key feature to me, indeed. It's interesting to see how different collections are organized depending on the purpose they fulfill. My collection has a similar size but is organized totally differently because it's for building my digitally designed MOCs and not for a BL store. That's why I use SAMLA boxes on shelves (not stacked for easy access) with ziploc bags inside. It's super flexible and allows to keep related parts in vastly different quantities together (while sorting by color and part). Takes a littler longer to get to them but achieving this is impossible with drawers (without separate overflow storage, at least) and since I design digitally super fast access is not a priority. (This will obviously be lot different for people designing physically or selling.) The way I part out sets is very similar to yours. I guess the purpose of the collection doesn't matter much for that.

I import my store in brickstore, then select all in file I'm working on, then copy remarks from store and it fills all remarks. Also, I always leave my old items for sale and when I upload, if a part sells out while I'm listing the new ones will just go back into drawer where it was when I upload the XML file on bricklink. But whatever is more comfortable for the one doing it is the way to go.

Can you sort or query your inventory for lot weight or nr of items? It could indicate if a drawer is close to empty and the lot could be relocated to a smaller drawer?

Thanks, loved the video, but why do you use BrickStore? Is that just for syncing with BrickOwl or does it actually help in any way? I have been running a full-time BL store for a little while now but I'm not on Brick Owl, so I don't get why people are using programs like BrickStore.

How do you balance part out value vs likelihood a part will sell or sit in your inventory and essentially lower the "value" of the set you parted out. Also I know you are always wanting to grow your store. But do you ever want a cash infusion or want to liquidate a certain part and clearance it out?

When I select keep original remarks the only things that go in to stock room are the ones not all ready in the store. I think I went too fast throw the part of putting the stock room items in

Now that you’ve done the sorting process have you thought about a follow up of tracking the time it takes to open boxes, open bags, sort into the trays, sort into the draws, and complete the technological side of things because you always mention how time consuming certain aspects of the process is

I always have a ton of questions. One thing that really irks me about LEGO is when someone designs a MOC, they usually use parts that haven't been in production for 30 years (and I wouldn't expect for Lego to put that part back in a production because they might not have the mold for it anymore ) or they use very rare parts and while that makes the MOC look super awesome, it really is an inconvenience the rest of us who might want to build that MOC. Maybe someday if you could please make a video and have physically in front of you as many of the rare LEGO parts as you could find and kind of give us a little explanation about them. I'm not sure if these questions are translating very well. Just do the best you can. Maybe you could title a video--Why are these LEGO parts so rare?

He doesn’t always follow me like Chrissy use to. Chrissy I wouldn’t realize was in the video until I uploaded it. Charlie has some of his favorite spots and sleeps a lot - lol
