Touch up kits are a great add on to the service you are providing for your clients. It gives them reassurance they will have exactly what they need to touch up their makeup and hair throughout the day.
Here is a list of things you may want to include in your touch up kits:
Straws
Kleenex
Sponges
Oil Blotting Sheets
Small plastic containers to hold samples of lipstick or loose powder
Disposable lip wands
Hairspray
Bobbi Pins
Elastics
Business Card

I like to do my business card, two peppermints and lipgloss that I but in bulk. just a pinky nude. or sometimes I do the little clear container with lip color. and I use the little mesh fabric bags

I love this tip SO much!! I think it’s so important to do something thoughtful for the bride and bridal party. A cute idea I had for past brides is to take a Polaroid/regular selfie with them & then include that in a thank you card post wedding 💕

To contain the retouching kit, my mother sews me of white linen bags with hand-embroidered the initial of the name of the bride. The content I want to revisit a little, to reduce costs, I had not thought to put the business card! good idea! 😊 (and sorry if my english isn't too much good 😓)

my clients always love their gifts they get so excited, I bought small craft bags that my disposable lip wands will fit in and instead of plastic containers I actually use small tattoo ink cups for lip color. I save a ton of money that way and I usually include a small travel size mascara.

Great idea Angie! I like the idea of adding your business card to hold the oil blotting sheet. I was giving people an entire pack and you're right, it's way too much and way too expensive. Do you think that it's okay just to make that special touch up kit for the bride and not for everyone?

That’s totally up to you! I wouldn’t feel right about leaving the rest of the bridal party without one based on what I charge. I find it’s a nice way to ensure everyone in the bridal party really feels confident that the makeup will last the entire wedding when they know they have everything to touch up with.

I actually don't have a separate kit for bridal. I use pretty much all the same stuff across the board for all my jobs! I will be doing a video later on about a few tips I have for bridal makeup application so stay tuned for that!

Hi Phoebe! Yes absolutely! If you are curious about my own pricing for bridal I list all of my pricing on my site www.angiedibattista.com so you can check that out. There are a lot of factors that go in to determining rates (location, years of experience etc.) but I will make sure to discuss all of that when I film the video.

With liquid lipsticks being so popular now how would you prepare a bag for liquid lipsticks? I love this idea but my bride is wanting a liquid lipstick on the day of her wedding. Don't know how I should go about it. Thank u so much you are truly amazing!!

Hi Ashley! I am not a fan of liquid lipsticks for any of my clients (and I don't use them on production sets either because they usually look horrible a few hours in) it is helpful to keep a few in your kit (mostly neutrals if you are doing bridal) and then you can scrape some out into a small airtight container to give to them to touch up!

Do u think we should tweak the touch up kit according to the weather? For example, in winters people tend to get drier skin if they are out attending an event. What can be included in such case, a hydrating spray?

Sure! Whatever you think is best for your clients and whatever you can include that makes sense price wise. Try to steer away from things that could have a negative impact on the longevity of their makeup or something that if used incorrectly may alter the makeup in some way. If you want to include a hydrating spray make sure it doesn’t leak in their bag, ensure if they over spray - it won’t ruin the makeup, and make sure the spray doesn’t affect the longevity.

I build it in to the cost, which is why I suggest keeping the cost as low as possible. So many people charge extra for everything with bridal makeup and I find the clients get overwhelmed because they are already making so many decisions in the planning process for that day.

How large are those small clear jars? Looking into getting some but not sure which to chose. I've seen some that are 3ml, 5ml, 10ml...its hard to tell in pictures which size would be best. Thank you!!! BTW I love your videos, they are so incredibly helpful!

Thanks Jessica - I should have mentioned that sorry! 3ml would be all you need and maybe 5ml for loose powder. But i'm pretty sure all my containers are 3ml. See what works for you - some of my MUA friends prefer jars a bit larger and they put hand cream and products like that in the jars for their clients.

I would just adjust your pricing, but the goal is to keep the cost of the kits quite low on your end - maybe 3-5$ per kit.

For hair I took a short evening class at a college here just to learn the fundamentals, but i've also done a lot of learning from working with hairstylists and being on set - so it is a combination of everything. As for resources - what type of hairstyling would you be interested in learning more about? (Bridal, editorial etc.) let me know!

The makeup school i'm currently attending have said they are releasing a hair styling course later in the year so i will probably do that as i feel that i will get more work if i can do both! I am interested in both bridal and editorial. :)

Awesome Andrea - just learning the basics will be helpful. In bridal and on set/editorial speed is essential. There are so many great hairstylists online. I would check out videos from Kevin Murphy, Confessions of a Hairstylist and The Beauty Department. All do great quick styling!

I don't use liquid lipstick in my kit but if I did I would just keep it in it's original tube and work off a palette!

You can purchase smaller liquid lipsticks that are travel size, or scrape out some liquid lipstick with a disinfected spatula and transfer it into an airtight screw top travel container. You can also include disposable lip brushes so they are able to apply it.

Hello, is anyone here can help me? I am having my first bride client, i have never done weddings before. I have watched a lot of wedding tips/tutorials/touch up kit. no one have ever ask me to pay me per hour for retouch. except this one coming, I accepted it. I dont know when do i start retouching, do i just stay on her side & observes when the touch up is needed. What if when she needs it and she’s doing something, how do you approach her without becoming annoying bugging her touching her face infront of her guess, do i just wait for her to ask me? What if she forget she need a touch up? PLEASE HELP

Hi! You will be touching up your client as needed watching for sweat, smudged makeup, lipstick that needs retouching etc. It is your job to assess when this is required but you likely won’t be touching up more than a few times depending on how long you are being paid to stay. The bride will be busy taking photos and enjoying the wedding. You should be in contact with the wedding planner or bride to find the best place for you to set up for this. Usually the makeup artist does not follow the bride around and stays in one spot out of the way, but you should discuss this with your client/wedding planner and find out what their wishes are.

I provide touch up kits to anyone that I provide services for. So bride and bridal party - if they are paying me to have hair or makeup done, the touch up kit is included!

Hi lovely just wondering if you use liquid lipsticks like matte lipsticks how do you provide this as a part of the touch up kit ? I am a freelancer makeup artist only do commercial makeup and formal makeup but trying to expand my business ( wedding makeup) and i never provide the touch up kits to my clients. And plus if it is just regular lipsticks like Classic mac lipsticks how do you provide them as the touch up kits? Do you cut the lipsticks and put in the small container that you are showing in the video??

I don’t use log wearing matte liquid lipsticks because they usually look horrible after a few hours. If a client requests a long wearing matte lipstick, I’ll pick one up. I usually just scrape out a little lipstick from the palette in my kit and put it in a smaller jar or you can purchase more inexpensive lipsticks (Maybelline, Revlon etc) and include one of those.
